SUMMARY:Exhibition: Yuko's Spring Has Come — Recent Paintings by Ayane Kurai
DESCRIPTION:The CRS gallery is pleased to announce “Yuko’s Spring Has Come” — recent paintings by Japanese artist Ayane Kurai. The exhibition will be up from Oct 30 – December 2\, 2010 at CRS. \nAn opening reception will be held Saturday\, October 30\, 2010 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm during which time additional works by Kurai\, not a part of the exhibition\, will be on display in the CRS Studio. The Artist Way program\, an interview/discussion moderated by CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki\, will begin at 6 pm. \nFollowing the Artist Way will be a jazz concert and other performances in observance of the one-year anniversary of the passing of Japanese artist Yuko Sueta. \nThe works in this exhibition are large\, thickly layered and heavily textured\, semi-asbstract expressionistic oil paintings\, mostly painted in the past four years and inspired\, in part\, by the artist’s recent experience of giving birth to two children while caring for her close friend\, Japanese artist Yuko Sueta\, whose health steadily declined until she passed away last October. The subject matter and degree of abstraction of the works vary. What holds constant and what distinguishes Kurai’s works is their intensity of color and texture and the immediacy of their evocation of the colors and textures of a life fully experienced. \nAbout Ayane Kurai \nAyane Kurai was born in Hyogo\, Japan. In 1988 she entered the department of paintings\, College of Art and Design\, Musashino Art University in Tokyo. She has been living and working in New York City since 1990. She received The Joan MItchel Foundation Grand Award in 1999 and had many solo and group shows in Japan\, the U.S.A. and Brazil. She is represented in Japan by Tsubaki Modern Gallery\, Tokyo. \nhttp://ayanekurai.com/home/
