SUMMARY:Whirling (Sufi Dance) Practice with Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Sufis\, lovers\, mystics\, CRS and Sufi Artist Lale Sayoko invite you to join us for an hour of meditative whirling known as Sufi dance or Sema (Sama in Iranian). This is not a class (i.e. there is no instruction) but an open space where we can come together to practice and is open to people of all backgrounds who whirl and follow the path of oneness. This month Tomchess of the American Sufi Project will honor us by playing live music for us. \nYou should already know the basics of how to whirl. If you have not already learned whirling from a Sufi teacher — for example\, from our teachers Rana Gorgani\, Lale Sayoko\, or Paola Garcia\, or at one of our whirling events\, or from a Sufi lodge or community — please first attend our Sufi Dance Class with Lale Sayoko\, which takes places the first Thursday of each month from 7:30 – 9 pm at CRS\, to learn the basics. Sayoko is also available for private instruction weekdays and weekends by appointment. \nThis Whirling Practice with Live Music will usually take place on the fourth Friday of each month from 7 – 8 pm\, and live music will be provided each time by one of our musician friends. In February and March\, the fourth Friday falls the day after the third Thursday\, when our Healing Circles are held\, so in those and other such months we will endeavor to have live music and whirling in our Healing Circles (meaning there will be no fourth Friday events in those months). \nPlease remember that whirling commonly induces dizziness or nausea. Avoid eating a large meal for two hours prior to class. Over time\, through whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control\, allowing us to whirl for longer periods. You do not have to whirl for the entire hour\, but you are encouraged to explore whether your perceived limits are immutable or only self-imposed. \nWe empty our minds of all thoughts of the individual self as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn. Into this emptiness floods a divine fullness\, which sometimes gives rise to a state known as “mystical intoxication\,” a reflection of knowing and experiencing that you and I and the Divine are One. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly Healing Circle & Whirling practice. We gather to let go of our small selves and remember our divinity within. This month we welcome back CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki to lead our prayer. And we’ll be welcoming the Winter Solstice with live music by Tomchess of the American Sufi Project! It’s such a joy to whirl with live music so we’ll be devoting extra time to that. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on the day of the class. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to join us for our monthly healing circle led by Sufi Dance Instructor Lale Sayoko and CRS co-founders Yasuko Kasaki & Christopher Pelham with crystal singing bowl meditation by Miyoko Satoh. We gather to let go of our small selves and remember our divinity within. Through meditation\, prayer\, partnering work\, drumming\, singing\, and the whirling dance of the sufis\, we join together in unity and experience our limitlessness. NOTE:  This month Lale Sayoko will be away. She will return in Sept. \nOur circles are held on the third Thursday of the month at CRS. Introductory drop-in classes in the technique and theory of Sufi Dance (whirling) are taught by Lale  Sayoko on the first Thursday of each month at CRS from 7:30 – 9 pm. \nWe also support the family of Sayoko’s five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Each Thursday 9pm we join minds with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another\, play together\, and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on the day of the class. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. She subsequently grew up in France\, where she still lives today. \nFascinated from an early age by the Persian culture\, Rana was fortunate to grow up in a family very present in the Arts where music and poetry were a constant fixture in her household. \nWhile traveling in Iran\, she was introduced to the Daf instrument\, a large Persian frame drum\, and pursued learning this sacred percussion for the Kurdish Sufi rituals. \nInstinctively\, she became familiar with this spirituality that sounded like an inspiration and reflection of her artistic work. DESCRIPTION:CRS and the One Note\, One Spirit sound community invite you to join us on Saturday\, March 10\, 2018 at 8 pm for a community healing circle to demonstrate oneness with the people of Tohoku\, Japan affected by the earthquake\, tsunami and nuclear disaster of March 11\, 2011. We will gather in a big circle to drum\, sing\, dance\, play and remember the limitless strength and love of the people of Tohoku. By doing so\, we will remind ourselves that we are the same\, still shining and perfect as Love created us\, and that our love and mind power can reach far beyond the limits of our bodies to work miracles for one another. So this event is as much for us as it is for the people in Japan. It’s for everyone. \nEveryone can participate musically in the circle\, and there will be performances by dancers Lale Sayoko of Bella Gaia and Shoko Tamai of Ninja Ballet and by musical acts Saco Yasuma & Sakurako Kataoka\, LayLa Lulla\, and Kana Kamitsubo Markovic. Additional acts may join. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced\, only willing to join. If you don’t have an instrument you can express yourself with one of our rattles or with your voice or by clapping or making sound in your own way. In this circle\, amateur and professional can both share their love equally. DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for our monthly sound and movement meditation. We gather to remember the divine strength within ourselves and to support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nFollowing a crystal singing bowl meditation (CRS healer Miyoko Satoh) and prayer circle (CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki)\, we’ll whirl together with live percussion by Saco Yasuma\, Senko Nishimura\, and friends. Whirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Jan 21. 50% of the proceeds go to the Williams family. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment.
