SUMMARY:Japanese Music Concert with Seasonal Sweets
DESCRIPTION:CRS & Mar Creation\, Inc. invite you to discover traditional Japanese music by the acclaimed koto and shamisen player Yoko Reikano Kimura offered together with an exclusive taste of beautiful Japanese seasonal sweets prepared by Rin NYC. The concert will take place on Saturday\, April 23\, 2016 at 4 pm at CRS. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the show and include wagashi (sweets) for the spring season\, which is most celebrated for the brief appearance of the beautiful cherry blossoms. Seating is limited and advanced purchased (online\, by phone 212-677-8621\, or in person at CRS) is strongly encouraged. \n“…Yoko Reikano Kimura\, playing the shamisen and singing\, is superb….” — New York Times \n“…Kimura’s performance on the solo shamisen was quite stunning. An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nThis will be the third in a seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music. After many centuries\, the brilliance of traditional Japanese music is still being passed on to the present day. Come and experience the sounds of koto and shamisen and enjoy the taste of the four seasons here in New York. This concert series will feature each season’s representative traditional works along with the colorful and delicate Japanese style confectionaries. \nEach season is expressed through ingredients. Spring traditionally begins with sakura (cherry blossoms)\, broccoli rabe\, strawberries and raspberries\, followed by elderflower\, rose\, edamame and sansho (Japanese pepper) in summer. As autumn approaches we’ll pick chrysanthemum\, apples\, grapes\, chestnuts and hazelnuts; and yuzu and kumquats in winter…. Even within one season\, the taste and the form change gradually from hashiri through nagori. \nConcert Program:\nMiyako no Haru (composed by Yamase Shoin Ⅲ) solo shamisen\nSakura-gari (composed by Yamada kengyo) koto\nMirage Dance (composed by Kin’ichi Nakanoshima) solo koto \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY.\nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \nMore about Yoko \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces. Yoko has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the prestigious 10th Kenjun Memorial National Koto Competition as the first Yamada style koto performer. She received the First Prize at the 4th Great Wall International Music Competition and the Osaka Chinese Counsel Award and won the Japanese music audition for NHK-FM radio and her solo shamisen performance was broadcasted nationally. Since then she has performed numerous koto and shamisen pieces for the radio and regularly toured internationally. \nSince Yoko moved to the US in 2010\, her mission has been to promote Japanese music to American audiences. As part of this mission she is performing and giving workshops at various venues\, such as the UN\, Merkin\, Bargemusic\, Roulette\, Princeton University\, Japan Society\, Harvard University\, Princeton University\, the New England Conservatory\, the University of Chicago\, Duke University and many others. http://www.yamadaryu.com/reikano/ \nAs part of the award-winning Duo Yumeno\, she has just released the album Flowers\, Birds\, Wind\, Moon:  The Music of Marty Regan. SUMMARY:AdHoc Winter Concert — 12/7
DESCRIPTION:AdHoc Winter Concert\nDate: Time December 7th\, 2014 from 7 pm\nLocation: CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) \n               123 4th Ave (between 12th & 13th St) 2nd Floor\, New York\, NY10003\nMore info: hello@adhoc-ny.com\nTickets (RSVP): http://adhoc-winter2014.brownpapertickets.com\nWebsite: http://adhoc-ny.com\n \nWHO WE ARE\n \nAdHoc is a vibrant\, growing ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists based in New York City.  We’re inspired primarily by early music\, but we also believe that tradition can be played with.  We perform about half of our pieces off the score\, as the composer intended. The rest is experimental–our “ad hoc” repertoire.  Always looking for fresh ways to fuse new and old\, we might explore how an oratorio would sound when reduced to a solo voice and guitar\, or how an Italian aria could be reworked in a jazz setting.  The composition of our ensemble is just as dynamic as our sound.  While our foundation is a core group of dedicated residents\, we’re constantly seeking other NYC musicians to collaborate with us as guests on individual projects.  The result: a mashup of genres\, sounds\, and influences as fluid and eclectic as the city where we live and perform. \n \nWHAT WE DO\n \nAn AdHoc concert is a relaxed\, intimate gathering that brings people together to share food\, drink\, conversation\, and music.  It’s a “salon” without the stuffiness.  Our events are all about community–the floor is our stage\, with little space between performer and audience. On December 7th\, we’re thrilled to be hosting our first holiday soiree.  We’ll provide the delicious treats\, warming beverages\, and a musical intermission of festive tunes\, from madrigals and traditional carols to flamenco and jazz.  You bring your friends\, appetite\, and open ears.\n \nDecember 201477 pm

The first concert will take place on Saturday\, Nov 28 at 4 pm at CRS. Tickets are $20 and include wagashi (sweets). An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nThis will be the first in a seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music. \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY.\nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \nMore about Yoko \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces.
