SUMMARY:Legendary Folksinger Morio Agata with Saco Myoji and Kevin Nathaniel
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a concert featuring legendary Japanese folksinger Morio Agata and NYC-based international vocalists/multi-instrumentalists Saco Myoji and Kevin Nathaniel. \nSuggested donation: $40+\, and RSVP via Eventbrite is required. \nDoors open at 6:30 pm. Please note that the performance space is on the 4th floor and is accessible by elevator. \nMorio has remained an active and influential presence in Japanese music for over 55 years. Through his songs\, he has given voice to the hopes\, struggles\, and emotions of people from different regions and generations across Japan\, capturing the human experience with both sensitivity and insight. Although he sings in Japanese\, we are sure you will be enthralled by his honesty\, authenticity\, musicianship\, and expressivity. \nSaco and Kevin likewise fill the air with joy\, reminding us that the essence of music is listening and vibrating together. Together with The Sound Healing Sanctuary community\, we hope to create an evening that fosters connection\, reflection\, and a sense of shared humanity. \nMorio Agata\nA legendary figure in Japanese music\, Morio Agata is a singer-songwriter\, actor\, filmmaker\, and cultural icon whose career spans more than five decades. Since his breakthrough hit “Red Elegy” in 1972\, Agata has continued to reinvent himself through an eclectic body of work that blends folk\, rock\, avant-garde experimentation\, theater\, and poetry. Revered for his singular voice and boundless creativity\, he remains one of Japan’s most distinctive and influential independent artists. \n\n\n\nFacebook YouTube \nSaco Myoji\nBorn in Japan and based in New York City\, Saco Myoji is a composer\, lyricist\, singer\, keyboardist\, and mbira player. Formerly a saxophonist\, she draws upon a rich spectrum of musical experiences ranging from blues\, funk\, rock\, reggae\, bossa nova\, salsa\, and avant-garde jazz to ambient and healing music. Weaving these influences together with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic sensibility\, she creates music marked by depth\, subtlety\, and expressive richness. In recent years\, she has used community gardens as a space to connect music\, art\, culture\, nature\, and people\, cultivating connection and renewal in the city. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/myojisaco/ \nKevin Nathaniel\nKevin Nathaniel is a visionary musician\, mbira player\, percussionist\, and sound healer who has performed and taught around the world.
