SUMMARY:CRS Healing Circle: Meditation + Whirling Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, Feb 21\, 2019 at 7:15 pm for our monthly Healing Circle + Whirling (Sufi Dance) + Prayer led by CRS co-founders Yasuko Kasaki and Christopher Pelham and Sufi Dance Artist Lale Sayoko. We gather to let go of our small selves and remember our divinity within. Musician Lulla LayLa will be with us to play the tanbour and sing during our whirling. \nBring in any issue — relationship trauma\, #metoo\, disease\, money issue\, depression — and surrender it to Spirit. Remember who you are. Receive new guidance. Experience love’s presence. Heal yourself and others. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on the day of the class. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. As you act as a conduit in the Turn\, the light comes through the right hand\, and the left hand brings it into this world… We turn for God and for the world\, and it is the most beautiful thing you can imagine. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nSufi Dance Instructor Lále Sayoko was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani and in April 2018 Gorgani awarded her the International Sufi Dance Certification Of Cid UNESCO\, granting her authority to teach Gorgani’s method of Sufi dance training.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com \nYasuko Kasaki (meditation/prayer) is an internationally beloved spiritual writer\, counselor\, healer\, lecturer and translator from Tokyo\, Japan. The founder of CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing)\, the first and only spiritual center devoted to the teaching and practice of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) in New York City\, she is widely recognized as the person most responsible for the spread of ACIM throughout Japan. She has taught and worked with thousands of people from around the world to help resolve their mental and physical issues and witness miracles. She is the author of 16 books in Japanese about ACIM\, as well as numerous novels\, short stories\, essays and collections of photographs. Her translations of the ACIM Workbook and books by ACIM writers Jon Mundy\, Gabrielle Bernstein and David Hoffmeister and others have also been published in Japan. Meditation and communication with Holy Spirit form the foundation of her classes.\nhttp://www.yasukokasaki.com \nChristopher Pelham is a spiritual healer/counselor/teacher/artist who draws on practices from ACIM\, Non-Violent Communication\, improvisational theater\, Sufism\, and contemporary shamanism to help people remember who they really are. He is the Director and co-founder of CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing). He has also taught and/or offered healing in London\, in Japan\, at the 2018 Awakening to the One Mind Retreat\, and at the 2017 Enlight Festival of A Course in Miracles in Ibiza\, Spain.  \nLulla LayLa is a Japanese Singer Songwriter\, Composer and Singer originally based in Tokyo\, Japan. Since 2000\, she has made her creative home in New York City. Lulla LayLa’s music has Japanese traditional elements combined with a psychedelic/contemporary world folk sensibility. Her music delivers haunting piano ballads about love and many other subjects. Since 2017\, she has also been composing songs with and accompany herself on the Kurdish tanbur. With this instrument\, her sound takes on an even more exotic folk sensibility. The theme of her songs/poems never changes\, but when writing for tanbur she does utilize a more simplified lyric with a repetitive structure that will leave a magical impression on your heart. You may also find these songs to be influenced by Sufi music. On several occasions audience members from different parts of the world have said to Lulla LayLa\, ” Your music makes me nostalgic because your music seems like my country’s music\,” even though she was not familiar with or hadn’t heard their country’s songs. She loves the idea of folk or devotional music bringing people together. Lulla LayLa says\, “We all know that the original songwriter of all lyrics and music is one\, as we all know that our original home country is one.”\nhttps://www.facebook.com/lullalaylatunes/

SUMMARY:Whirling (Sufi Dance) Practice with Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Sufis\, lovers\, mystics\, CRS and Sufi Artist Lale Sayoko invite you to join us for an hour of meditative whirling known as Sufi dance or Sema (Sama in Iranian). This is not a class (i.e. there is no instruction) but an open space where we can come together to practice and is open to people of all backgrounds who whirl and follow the path of oneness. This month Tomchess of the American Sufi Project will honor us by playing live music for us. \nYou should already know the basics of how to whirl. If you have not already learned whirling from a Sufi teacher — for example\, from our teachers Rana Gorgani\, Lale Sayoko\, or Paola Garcia\, or at one of our whirling events\, or from a Sufi lodge or community — please first attend our Sufi Dance Class with Lale Sayoko\, which takes places the first Thursday of each month from 7:30 – 9 pm at CRS\, to learn the basics. Sayoko is also available for private instruction weekdays and weekends by appointment. \nThis Whirling Practice with Live Music will usually take place on the fourth Friday of each month from 7 – 8 pm\, and live music will be provided each time by one of our musician friends. In February and March\, the fourth Friday falls the day after the third Thursday\, when our Healing Circles are held\, so in those and other such months we will endeavor to have live music and whirling in our Healing Circles (meaning there will be no fourth Friday events in those months). \nPlease remember that whirling commonly induces dizziness or nausea. Avoid eating a large meal for two hours prior to class. Over time\, through whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control\, allowing us to whirl for longer periods. You do not have to whirl for the entire hour\, but you are encouraged to explore whether your perceived limits are immutable or only self-imposed. \nWe empty our minds of all thoughts of the individual self as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn. Into this emptiness floods a divine fullness\, which sometimes gives rise to a state known as “mystical intoxication\,” a reflection of knowing and experiencing that you and I and the Divine are One. Together we can take courage and inspiration from one another and strengthen our practice. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing (white\, gray or black color is preferable\, avoiding prints and shiny material which might distract the eye while whirling) and wear socks or soft soled shoes. If you have a whirling skirt\, please feel free to bring it. \n$20 with advance registration\, $25 at the door \nLearn more about Sufi dance:\nhttp://www.ranagorgani.com/10-things-about-sufi-dance/ \nAbout Sufi Dance Artist Lâle Sayoko \nSayoko was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, and with New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. DESCRIPTION:Join us Thursday\, Jan 17\, 2019 at 7:30 pm for our monthly Healing Circle + Whirling (Sufi Dance) + Prayer led by CRS co-founders Yasuko Kasaki and Christopher Pelham and Sufi Dance Artist Lale Sayoko. SUMMARY:The Dance of the Soul: A Sufi Workshop
DESCRIPTION:OPEN TO ALL. \n“Come\, come\, whoever you are. Wanderer\, worshipper\, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter…come\, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come yet again\, come\, come.” \nSufi whirling is called the dance of the soul because of its ability to liberate the dancer’s soul from the prison of the body. A background in dance is not necessary to benefit from the alchemy and spiritual richness of this practice\, derived from Islamic mysticism. This workshop will focus\, in practice and theory\, on the four qualities required of a Sufi Dancer. These are essential character traits to be cultivated by any being who seeks to live a life of meaning and depth\, emphasizing the importance of a rich inner life interwoven with\, and manifesting in\, our external realities and experiences. Cathartic and powerful\, this practice is life-altering\, exerting an irresistible pull on those who are called to it\, and therefore meant to remove their veils and witness the intoxicating light of the divinity that lies at the core of our human essence. \nIn this workshop\, the student will learn whirling technique and experience several meditation in motion exercises meant to facilitate connection with the deepest part of our selves. Students will also learn essential facts and some history about Sufism. This will facilitate an understanding of how we can benefit from the wisdom of this ancient tradition in a way that is deeply relevant and applicable to our experience as modern beings. Poetry and sacred music will be important components of this workshop. \nSufi Dance is the dance of unity: unity within our own selves first\, and with the outer world and “others” second. \nPaola Garcia is a Sufi dance artist certified by Persian master Rana Gorgani as a UNESCO international dance teacher. She holds a Master’s Degree in Islamic Studies from Columbia University. She is a writer\, Middle Eastern Studies researcher\, and translator. \n“Dancing is not just getting up painlessly\, like a leaf blown on the wind; dancing is when you tear your heart out and rise out of your body to hang suspended between the worlds.” –Jalal ad-Din Rumi. \nThe workshop fee is $50 until 1/11 and $60 at the door. Registration is available online\, by phone (212-677-8621)\, and at CRS. \nPlease wear solid colors only and bring bring socks or flat dance slippers to wear. If you have a whirling skirt\, you may bring it. \nDo not eat for at least a couple of hours before the workshop.

SUMMARY:Sufi Dance Class with Lâle Sayoko
DESCRIPTION:Learn the ancient practice of meditative whirling known as Sufi dance or Sema (Sama in Iranian). You will learn the techniques of whirling\, but Sema is not about reproducing a certain form or aesthetic. Rather\, the technique serves as a vehicle for inner journeying. Sema means spiritual listening. Together we’ll create a sacred space in which we can safely listen to and share our true selves and experience oneness with the Divine. \nEach class consists of some explanation of the theory and technique\, exercises\, practice whirling\, and sharing and discussion of what you experienced and felt. \nWhirling commonly induces dizziness or nausea. Over time\, through whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control. We empty our minds of all thoughts of the individual self as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn. SUMMARY:CRS Winter Solstice Healing Circle: Meditation & Whirling with Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly Healing Circle & Whirling practice. We gather to let go of our small selves and remember our divinity within. This month we welcome back CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki to lead our prayer. And we’ll be welcoming the Winter Solstice with live music by Tomchess of the American Sufi Project! It’s such a joy to whirl with live music so we’ll be devoting extra time to that. SUMMARY:CRS Healing Circle: Prayer\, Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to join us for our monthly healing circle led by Sufi Dance Instructor Lale Sayoko and CRS co-founders Yasuko Kasaki & Christopher Pelham with crystal singing bowl meditation by Miyoko Satoh. NOTE:  This month Lale Sayoko will be away. She will return in Sept. \nOur circles are held on the third Thursday of the month at CRS. Introductory drop-in classes in the technique and theory of Sufi Dance (whirling) are taught by Lale  Sayoko on the first Thursday of each month at CRS from 7:30 – 9 pm. \nWe also support the family of Sayoko’s five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Each Thursday 9pm we join minds with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another\, play together\, and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. SUMMARY:Intro to Sufi Dance Class with Lâle Sayoko
Into this emptiness floods a divine fullness\, which sometimes gives rise to a state known as “mystical intoxication\,” a reflection of knowing and experiencing that you and I and the Divine are One. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing (white\, gray or black color is preferable\, avoiding prints and shiny material which might distract the eye while whirling) and wear socks or soft soled shoes. If you have a whirling skirt and/or a frame drum\, please feel free to bring it. Avoid eating a large meal for two hours prior to class. \n$20 with advance registration\, $25 at the door \nLearn more about Sufi dance:\nhttp://www.ranagorgani.com/10-things-about-sufi-dance/ \nAbout Sufi Dance Instructor Lâle Sayoko \nSayoko was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, and with New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. DESCRIPTION:CRS welcomes back master musicians Kevin Nathaniel and Tomchess for an evening of meditative\, playful music on instruments from Africa\, the Middle East and India. SUMMARY:CRS Healing Circle: Prayer\, Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to join us for our monthly healing circle (see Japanese announcement below). We gather to meditate\, drum\, sing\, dance\, pray and remember the divine strength within ourselves. This month we welcome Sufi dance artist Rana Gorgani\, founder of “l’Oeil Persan” – The Persian Eye – the first company in Europe devoted to Persian dance\, into our circle to lead us further.\nhttp://www.ranagorgani.com/ \nRana will lead a Sufi community event at CRS on Tuesday\, April 17 at 8 pm. The event is free and donations are welcome at the door. \nWe also support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. We will begin promptly at 7:30 pm so please arrive by 7:15 pm if you can. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on April 19. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nAt 4:33am EST this morning of 4/19 our friend the artist Kimi-Tea TsukaDa\, who painted the dervishes shown here\, passed at her home in Los Angeles. In a telephone conversation with Yasuko Kasaki several days ago\, Kimi said that the many people who had to live with pain in the past had come into her awareness and she had told them that she was now living\, accepting\, enduring for them. Her beautiful\, loving mind has uplifted her many friends around the world\, and we will include her in our prayer tonight at 9:30 pm EST during our Healing Circle. Please join us with your mind wherever you are if you are unable to attend in person. The prayer will be led by Yasuko with crystal singing bowl performance by Miyoko Satoh. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nAbout Lale Sayoko \nLale was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com \nAbout Rana Gorgani \n‘Neither from the East nor from the West’\, Rana Gorgani was born in Germany to an Iranian mother and a Kurdish father. She subsequently grew up in France\, where she still lives today. \nFascinated from an early age by the Persian culture\, Rana was fortunate to grow up in a family very present in the Arts where music and poetry were a constant fixture in her household. \nWhile traveling in Iran\, she was introduced to the Daf instrument\, a large Persian frame drum\, and pursued learning this sacred percussion for the Kurdish Sufi rituals. \nInstinctively\, she became familiar with this spirituality that sounded like an inspiration and reflection of her artistic work. Finally\, at the age of 24\, Rana dedicated herself entirely to dance. \nAfter several years of learning and travelling in and around Iran\, Rana mastered the Iranian dances and the dances of its neighbours. \nIn 2009\, she founded the company “l’Oeil Persan” – The Persian Eye – the first company lead by traditional dances of the Persian world in Europe. \nFurthering her knowledge of dance\, she obtained a Master degree in Anthropology of Dance at the University of Clermont-Ferrand (France)\, and is pursuing research within the Qashqa’i people\, one of the many nomadic tribes of Iran. \nhttp://www.ranagorgani.com/

She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com

SUMMARY:Prayer for Amara: Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for a sound and movement meditation for Amara Williams on Thursday\, Nov 16 from 8 – 9:45 pm. We will gather monthly to remember the divine strength within ourselves and to support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nThis month\, our sound healers Senko and Miyoko are away and Sayoko will join us late\, so musician Saco Yasuma and CRS Healer Christopher Pelham will lead us through the opening hour of sound meditation and guided meditation and whirling practice. Please feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, whistle\, chimes\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. \nWhirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Nov 16. 50% of the proceeds will support the Williams family.
