SUMMARY:ESSENTRICS with Betty
DESCRIPTION:Essentrics is a full-body stretching and toning workout that’s great for most levels. This class builds strength\, flexibility and range of motion while releasing stress. \nMonday 6 – 7 pm \nEssentrics is also known as “Classical Stretch\,” the #1 fitness show on American Public Television. It is a full-body\, dynamic stretching workout that safely shapes and rebalances the body. Essentrics conditions not only our muscles but also bones and joints. This unique stretching-in-motion program rapidly creates a long\, lean and strong physique with immediate changes to posture. Essentrics’ simple circular movements condition our joints\, while their pacing and sequencing build and strengthen connections between the body and the brain. \nEccentric vs. Concentric Training\nThe name Essentrics came from eccentric training\, a technique that strengthens muscles in stretched / lengthened positions. This contrasts with typical concentric technique such as lifting weights\, which shortens our muscles and stiffens our joints. Essentrics stretches and tones at the same time\, balancing strength and flexibility. It also builds greater force for the same energy spent\, and muscles recover faster. For these reasons eccentric training has been popular among athletes\, dancers\, seniors\, and people healing from ailments and injuries. It is also increasingly popular among people who simply desire a lean\, sculpted and balanced body. \nDynamic vs. Static Stretch\nInstead of holding poses Essentrics stretches while staying in motion. It therefore not only conditions our muscles but also lubricates our joints. In addition\, the movements embody neuromuscular techniques that improve coordination as well as muscle control. Compared to static stretches\, dynamic eccentric training has proven to be far more effective in boosting range of motion\, agility\, and reducing injuries in sports and daily life. It is therefore wonderful for both athletes and non. \nhttps://vimeo.com/183364487 \nStructure:\nWarm up\nStanding full-body movements using large\, rotational\, trademark exercises\nFloor work or barre work (using chairs) \nAll classes are capped at 12 people.\nUnlike most group classes Betty knows your specific needs before you arrive and is ready to cue you accordingly. \nRATES \n\nSingle class: $30 (valid for 30 days)\nSpecial 2-class pass: $36 (valid for 45 days). This is for only for NEW clients who have not taken any tryout/workshop/regular class with Betty.) Also available as gift. \n5-class pass: $125 (valid for 60 days)\n\n\nPurchases are good for all class times and locations but are not transferrable to another user.\nEach person needs to buy his / her own pass and sign the online waiver.\nPlease kindly book and pay with credit card at least half an hour before class starts. Betty regrets that she cannot accept walk-ins or process payment on site.\n\nCancellation:\nYou can cancel a booking up to six hours ahead. Registration closes 30 minutes before a session starts. This ensures that Betty knows in advance who and what conditions she will be working with. \nAbout the Instructor\nBetty is one of a few Essentrics instructors in the US who is fully certified at Level 4. (Only Level 4 instructors qualify to train athletes and design Essentrics routines.) She is also a Personal Trainer certified by the prestigious NASM\, placing her in a unique position to apply the Essentrics program to assist clients in a wide variety of settings. \nThroughout her training Betty has taken the initiative to attend all levels of optional Essentrics Teachers’ Workshops. She is also Red Cross-certified for First Aid\, CPR\, and AED.

SUMMARY:Four Seasons in NY: Gems of Japanese Music
DESCRIPTION:CRS & Mar Creation\, Inc. invite you to discover traditional Japanese music by the acclaimed koto and shamisen player Yoko Reikano Kimura\, offered together with an exclusive taste of beautiful Japanese seasonal sweets prepared by Rin NYC. The next concert will take place on Saturday\, August 5\, 2017 at 4 pm at CRS. Tickets are $25 and include delicious wagashi (sweets). Seating is limited and advanced purchased (online\, by phone 212-677-8621\, or in person at CRS) is encouraged. \nAugust’s program will include the following pieces: \nHototogisu – Little Cuckoo – (Yamada-kengyo)\nSarashi (Fukakusa-kengyo)\nOmoide – Nostalgia – (Kimio Eto)\n“…Yoko Reikano Kimura\, playing the shamisen and singing\, is superb….” — New York Times \n“…Kimura’s performance on the solo shamisen was quite stunning. An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nThis will be the fourth in a seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music 2016 – 17. After many centuries\, the brilliance of traditional Japanese music is still being passed on to the present day. Come and experience the sounds of koto and shamisen and enjoy the taste of the four seasons here in New York. This concert series will feature each season’s representative traditional works along with the colorful and delicate Japanese style confectionaries. \n\nEach season is expressed through ingredients. Spring traditionally begins with sakura (cherry blossoms)\, broccoli rabe\, strawberries and raspberries\, followed by elderflower\, rose\, edamame and sansho (Japanese pepper) in summer. As autumn approaches we’ll pick chrysanthemum\, apples\, grapes\, chestnuts and hazelnuts; and yuzu and kumquats in winter…. Even within one season\, the taste and the form change gradually from hashiri through nagori. \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY. \nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \n  \n  \nMore about Yoko \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces. Yoko has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the prestigious 10th Kenjun Memorial National Koto Competition as the first Yamada style koto performer. She received the First Prize at the 4th Great Wall International Music Competition and the Osaka Chinese Counsel Award and won the Japanese music audition for NHK-FM radio and her solo shamisen performance was broadcasted nationally. Since then she has performed numerous koto and shamisen pieces for the radio and regularly toured internationally. \nSince Yoko moved to the US in 2010\, her mission has been to promote Japanese music to American audiences. As part of this mission she is performing and giving workshops at various venues\, such as the UN\, Merkin\, Bargemusic\, Roulette\, Princeton University\, Japan Society\, Harvard University\, Princeton University\, the New England Conservatory\, the University of Chicago\, Duke University and many others. http://www.yamadaryu.com/reikano/ \nAs part of the award-winning Duo Yumeno\, she has just released the album Flowers\, Birds\, Wind\, Moon:  The Music of Marty Regan. SUMMARY:CRS Sound Healing Circle
DESCRIPTION:The August moon is the Sturgeon moon. The waters are warm and the fishing is easy. This month the incredible vocal artist Ami Yamasaki will lead us through a guided consiousness-expanding journey of vocalized sounds. As usual\, sound healers Senko Nishimura and Miyoko Satoh will support us with their holy playing on drum and crystal singing bowl\, respectively. \nThe fee is $20 through August 9 and $25 on August 10. \nAmi Yamasaki is a vocalist and cross-media artist from Tokyo. Yamasaki creates installations\, performance pieces and directs films. With primal vocals and movement\, she explores the possibilities of a deeper understanding towards the mechanism of the world.\nhttps://www.youtube.com/user/amingerz\nhttps://ikimasho.net/2015/01/23/ami-yamasaki-till-a-quiet-room-sings/ \n—————– \nOur purpose\, guided by our devoted study and practice of A Course in Miracles\, is to remind one another that we are one and the same\, always already perfect expressions of love. Therefore\, we will be training ourselves to look for and find such reminders in all of our visions and experiences. While the forms of our activities draw on or are adapted from various shamanic and healing traditions\, we do not seek to hold up any particular forms as essential or superior in and of themselves. Any form or experience could be used to remember who we truly are and to join with others. We will be using these particular forms simply because we enjoy them! \nCRS Co-Founder Christopher Pelham will lead the circle this month. Chris has a background in ensemble and improvisational theatre and has been studying ACIM since 2003 and offering healing and spiritual counseling since 2013. He leads the Monday night guided meditation and Healing Clinic at CRS\, teaches A Course of Love on Wednesday nights\, participates in the Tuesday night Healing Clinics and assists Yasuko in the leading of the Monday night ACIM Classes.

SUMMARY:Prayer for Amara: Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for a sound and movement meditation for Amara Williams on Thursday\, Aug 17 from 8 – 9:30 pm. We will gather monthly to remember the divine strength within ourselves and to support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nFollowing a crystal singing bowl meditation (CRS healer Miyoko Satoh) and prayer circle (CRS healer Naoko Ono)\, we’ll whirl together with live percussion by Senko Nishimura and friends. Whirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Aug 17. 50% of the proceeds will support the Williams family. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. As you act as a conduit in the Turn\, the light comes through the right hand\, and the left hand brings it into this world… We turn for God and for the world\, and it is the most beautiful thing you can imagine. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nAbout Lale Sayoko \nLale was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com

SUMMARY:Open Satsang with Satyaprem
DESCRIPTION:1. Who is Satyaprem? \nBorn in Brazil. He studied journalism\, devoted himself to photography\, painting and poetry. In the early 80’s he had his first contact with Master Osho\, from whom he received his name Satyaprem. For about twenty years\, he was dedicated to work with therapy and meditation\, acting as part of the team of therapists of Osho Multiversity International. In 2000\, the path of therapy ceased\, when it was definitively revealed\, the end of the search\, what the sages often call “Enlightenment.” Since then\, Satyaprem invokes the awakening of people to their original nature through encounters and retreats. In addition to the talks and retreats\, today they add twelve his books. The first one entitled “PA”\, published in 1983\, edited by Paulo Coelho\, and the most recent “Diálogos sobre o invisivel” and “Transmisâo Especial – O eloquente discurso do Silêncio”\, published in 2015 and 2016 respectively. \nSatyaprem means “Love for Truth”. It is a unique individual\, magnetic\, direct … of deep\, cosmic\, abysmal gaze could be said. Whoever looks into his eyes runs the risk of seeing himself and meeting forever. \n“There is no drop\, everything is Ocean”\n~ Satyaprem. \n2. What is Satsang? \nSatsang is a Sanskrit word and literally means encounter with Truth. Sat is true and sang is communion\, it is closeness\, it is unity. It is to be at the feet of the Truth. So what happens in Satsang is that people are invited to put their minds aside and look inward. This is where many people get confused\, they think they are going to meet Satyaprem. But in true satsang\, you will not find Satyaprem. Satyaprem is going to be just a bridge to find yourself. That means Satsang\, to meet oneself. \n“And if Silence were you and not the place where you should be?”\n~ Satyaprem. \n3. What is Darshan with Satyaprem? \nSatyaprem dedicates his life to open our eyes to who we truly are. His work has always been based on the following question: “Who are you?”. However\, that is not a question\, there is no intellectual response to such questioning. This is an existential question\, and for more answers than your mind can generate\, you can only find some meaning to it\, through a “vision”. \nDarshan means “seeing.” This meeting occurs without the intervention of thought. He who “sees”\, who is awake\, leads us to the direct experience of that which we are subsequently\, the experience of Truth. Concepts and beliefs do not bring the Truth. \nDarshan represents the original. Literally\, it means “meeting with the holy” – this is the name given to the meetings between the master and his followers\, in which master and disciple dialogue in a relaxed way. \nYou only think when you can not see. If you can see\, there is no reason to think. Thinking is always ignorance.\nThinking is not knowledge\, because when you know\, there is no need to think. \nDarshan means seeing\, reaching the vision\, perceiving\, knowing – immediately\, directly\, without the mediation of thinking or thought.\nGoing beyond the curiosity of the intellect\, we are facing the possibility of seeing. That’s DARSHAN! \n4. What is the work of Satyaprem? \nWho are you? It is the main focus of Satyaprem’s work. Through an apparent conversation\, he will lead us to the inquiry of questions that\, without proper inquiry\, are absorbed as truth and govern a limited life\, responsible for the state of frustration in which mankind finds itself. Since 2000\, Satyaprem has carried out a disturbing and provocative work\, exploring – in practice\, not in theory – Socratic method or maieutics\, the process of self-inquiry of Ramana Maharshi and Zen. Its initial proposal is the investigation of certain misunderstandings that prevent us from recognizing who we really are. As a consequence\, finally\, one has the “direct experience”\, the so-called “zero point” – in quantum terms. Among the primordial deceptions is the very idea that meditation is something spiritual and non-scientific\, restricted to few “seekers” and “alternative people”. The work of Satyaprem has attracted countless people from all over the world to the meetings called “Satsang”\, from Sanskrit\, “Meeting with the Truth”. \n“If you are not the one who thinks\, what does it matter what the one who thinks is thinking?”\n~ Satyaprem \n5. Who is it aimed at? \nThe work of Master Satyaprem is an experience addressed to the whole world. It is not necessary to have any previous experience or knowledge of meditation\, to have done yoga before\, or to have been in any spiritual discipline … In Satyaprem’s words “There is no condition\, everyone is welcome. We start from zero and go to Zero”. \n“Unless you know who you are\, nothing will satisfy you”\n~ Satyaprem \n6. What is the schedule and cost? \nOpen Satsang is FREE\nTuesday Sept. 5 7:30 pm\nbut seating is limited to 60 and registration by Aug 29 is required\nRSVP to agharprem@gmail.com \nIntensive Darshan $240 per participant\nThursday • Sept. 7 •   7:30 – 10 pm\nFriday •   Sept. 8 •   7:30 -10 pm\nSaturday • Sept. 9 •   5:00 – 8 pm\nSunday •   Sept. 10 • 5:00 – 8 pm \nIndividual Darshan $65 per participant\nDaily charge for those participants than cannot make it for the entire Intensive Darshan \n7. What should I bring with me? \nPractical: Comfortable clothing\, A bottle of water. Nothing to write or take notes!\nThe essential: Opening\, receptivity and surrender. All your energy focused on the question Who am I? Seize the opportunity\, do not stop exposing your spiritual concerns and doubts before Master Satyaprem. \n“Noise is conditional\, Silence is unconditional”\n~ Satyaprem

SUMMARY:Meditation and the Spiritual Journey of the Soul — Integrating Spirituality Into Our Everyday Life
DESCRIPTION:with Speaker Andrew Vidich\, PhD \nAll great religious and spiritual traditions have laid much emphasis on the meaning and understanding of death and the afterlife. In this workshop we will explore the many faceted faces of death and the afterlife journey of the soul viewed through the lens of several religious and spiritual traditions. \nWho are we\, where do we go and what is the nature of the soul’s existence after death\, will form the basis of our inquiry. No matter who we are\, each of us will have to face the moment of death. By understanding life itself\, what dies and what lies beyond this physical existence\, each of us can learn more fully how to live now. Death may be the single greatest teacher we all encounter in our lives. \noin us for an interactive evening lecture and discussion followed by a demonstration of how each of us can begin our own inner journey into the after-life NOW through meditation. \nThursdays\, Sept 7 & 14 from 7 – 9 pm \nTo register\, call 631-822-7979 or email infotristate@sos.org

SUMMARY:Exhibition: The Mortal Apparatus — Photographs of Flowers & Cityscapes by Chris Fiore
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents The Mortal Apparatus\, an exhibition of photographs of fading flowers and cityscapes by Chris Fiore. A mix of color and b&w\, the photographs are all clearly digitally manipulated and highlight the artificiality and intentionality of the photographic act. The images call attention to the often overlooked beauty that can be found in decaying objects\, natural and man-made\, suggesting how our minds look for signs of the eternal in the ephemeral and create new layers of meaning. Ultimately\, these works invite us to consider how our thoughts touch and re-make everything we look upon. \nThe exhibition opens on September 14\, 2017 and will remain on view until November 30\, 2017. An Opening Reception with the artist will take place on Friday\, September 22\, 2017 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, two free evenings of screenings of film/video work by the artist will take place on October 13 (“Goodman” and “The Red Umbrella Diaries”) and on November 10 (world premiere of “The Ken Stones:  Miami” and A(DE)SCENT”) from 7:30 – 10 pm. Seating for these screenings is limited and available on a first come\, first serve basis. \nArtist’s Exhibition Statement: \nFrom time immemorial the nature of what we value most has been defined in human terms; our families\, our villages\, our rulers\, our religions\, have defined us in ways intrinsic to our nature as people\, as father\, mother\, sister\, brother\, friend\, and neighbor\, etc. We lived in a world of barter and local currencies defined by our communities and shared needs. \nThen the industrial revolution introduced a new set of values as we had an entirely new thing to measure ourselves against: the ubiquitous machine. Mechanical things that could weave\, move\, and manufacture faster than any human began to shape the lives of millions of people who moved from farms and villages to the cities (massive machines themselves) in search of factory work. This shaping of our lives by technology and factory work has since enveloped the world and affects every aspect of our lives. \nWilling or not\, we are supplicants to the mechanical and the cybernetic. From the moment our parents sat us down in front of a screen\, be it a television\, tablet\, or phone\, automation has literally shaped our minds\, our perception of reality\, and in turn\, what we value. We are no longer strictly human and the velocity of our technologies make us less so every day. In short\, we are already cyborgs. \nArtist Statement \nThe camera is my favorite machine. To me\, the camera has transcended its nature as a mechanical device and has become something verging on a magic instrument. Capable of capturing the fleeting and the ephemeral\, of freezing light and stopping time\, of making the intimate public\, of telling profound truths and fascinating lies\, of imbuing meaning into the mundane and transforming the precious into the mechanical\, the camera is a collective third eye that has shaped the perceptions of a species. \nArtist Profile: \nFilmmaker\, writer\, and artist Chris Fiore\, born 1959 in Norfolk\, Virginia\, received his BFA from Antioch College in 1984. In the late 80’s he was one of the founders of the Zone\, a artist collective occupying an abandoned warehouse at 104 South 4th St\, in Williamsburg\, Brooklyn. Fiore showed at the East Village’s KOAP gallery in the early 90’s and in 1995 directed the underground documentary Trip and Go Naked\, winner of the Excellence in Sexual Theater award at Arlene’s Grocery Picture Show. He went on to direct the feature documentary Backstage for Miramax\, a behind the scenes look at Jay Z’s Hard Knock Life Tour. The film had a profitable run in theaters and is still occasionally in rotation on the Showtime network 17 years after it was made. Fiore has also directed documentaries on the making of the Victoria’s Secret Christmas Catalog\, the band Paramore\, as well as two prime time specials for Fox Television. His most recent documentary\, Goodwoman\, tells the story of Debra Goodman\, an activist brutally arrested for filming the NYPD. Featured in several film festivals\, Goodwoman won the Grand Jury Award at the 2016 LA Film Invasion film festival. He’s currently directing a documentary and web series on artist Ken Hiratsuka. \nFiore’s first feature film script\, The Utopia Virus\, finished in the top ten of the 2005 Final Draft Big Break screenwriting contest. He also wrote the Wassup Obama ad\, described by Salon.com as one of the most creative of the 2008 presidential campaign and winner of a Cannes Lion. He’s currently working on a series of film treatments for a Beijing based production company. \nFiore’s film work has directly influenced his art over the years\, in his use of appropriated imagery\, presentation of sequential images\, and in the cinematically dynamic composition of his mosaic photography. Fiore is represented by the Ethan Pettit Gallery. \nWebsites: \nchrisfiore.nyc\ngoodwomanmovie.com\nthekenstones.com\nabillionbeautifuldays.com \nArt Resume \nEducation: \nBachelor of Fine Arts\, Antioch College\, Yellow Springs\, Ohio\, 1984. \nOne Person Show \n1991 Space Case Gallery\, P.S. 122: NYC \nGuest Artist: \n2017 Nobuko Tsuruta\, 12 Years\, Tenri Gallery\, NYC \nGroup Shows : \n2015 Spring Salon\, Ethan Pettit Gallery\, Brooklyn \n2015 Morphopolis\, Ethan Pettit Gallery\, Brooklyn \n2007 Sun Pictures to Megapixels\, WAH Art Center\, Brooklyn \n2004 Projekt30 : Juried online group show \n1999 triad: an observation of artist/friendship triangles\, Vibrant Gallery\, NYC \n1999 CG ART\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1997 Trip\, Gallery T.Y.K-Two\, Tokyo\, Japan \n1997 Future in 3D\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1996 Cupid\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1995 Blood in the Heart\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1990 Possible Photography\, Ward Nasse Gallery\, NYC \n1990 Epoche Sex Salon\, Epoche Gallery\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn \n1989 The Gridlock Exhibit\, Minor Injury Gallery\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn \n1988 CyberFunk\, The Zone\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn \n1987 The Zone Show\, The Zone\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn
