SUMMARY:Prayer for Amara: Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for our monthly sound and movement meditation. We gather to remember the divine strength within ourselves and to support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nFollowing a crystal singing bowl meditation (CRS healer Miyoko Satoh) and prayer circle (CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki)\, we’ll whirl together with live percussion by Saco Yasuma\, Senko Nishimura\, and friends. Whirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Dec 21. 50% of the proceeds go to the Williams family. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. As you act as a conduit in the Turn\, the light comes through the right hand\, and the left hand brings it into this world… We turn for God and for the world\, and it is the most beautiful thing you can imagine. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nAbout Lale Sayoko \nLale was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com

SUMMARY:CRS Healing Circle: Prayer\, Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to join us for our monthly healing circle. We gather to meditate\, drum\, sing\, dance\, pray and remember the divine strength within ourselves. We also support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Jan 18.

SUMMARY:Four Seasons in NY: Gems of Japanese Music & Tea Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:CRS & Mar Creation\, Inc. invite you to discover traditional Japanese music by the acclaimed koto and shamisen player and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura\, followed by a rare tea ceremony by Souheki Mori (tea master at Tea Whisk and Setsugekka). After the ceremony\, matcha tea by Setsugekka and beautiful Japanese seasonal sweets prepared by Rin NYC will be served.  \nThe next concert will take place on Friday\, January 19\, 2018 at 7 pm at CRS. Tickets are $40 and include the tea ceremony and delicious wagashi (sweets). Seating is limited and advanced purchased (online\, by phone 212-677-8621\, or in person at CRS) is encouraged. \nKimura will perform four classical pieces\, including Chanoyu Ondo – The Lead of Tea Ceremony\, while Mori leads Shin-no-gyou daisu temae (真之行台子点前)\, one of the most formal and elaborate styles of tea serving that is very rarely shared in New York. There will also be a surprise musical guest! \nMUSICAL PROGRAM \nKokin-sho for solo jiuta sangen (composed by Seiho Kineya)\nRokudan no Shirabe (composed by Yatsuhashi-kengyo)\nChanoyu Ondo – The Lead of Tea Ceremony – (composed by Yaezaki-kengyo)\nSpring Sea (composed by Michio Miyagi) \n“…Yoko Reikano Kimura\, playing the shamisen and singing\, is superb….” — New York Times \n“…Kimura’s performance on the solo shamisen was quite stunning. An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nAfter many centuries\, the brilliance of traditional Japanese music is still being passed on to the present day. Come and experience the sounds of koto and shamisen and enjoy the taste of the four seasons here in New York. This concert series will feature each season’s representative traditional works along with the colorful and delicate Japanese style confectionaries. \nThis will be the second concert of Volume 3 of this seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music. The subsequent concerts in this season are planned for April 1 and Aug 12 of 2018 at 4 pm. \n\nEach season is expressed through ingredients. Spring traditionally begins with sakura (cherry blossoms)\, broccoli rabe\, strawberries and raspberries\, followed by elderflower\, rose\, edamame and sansho (Japanese pepper) in summer. As autumn approaches we’ll pick chrysanthemum\, apples\, grapes\, chestnuts and hazelnuts; and yuzu and kumquats in winter…. Even within one season\, the taste and the form change gradually from hashiri through nagori. \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY. \nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \n  \n  \nMore about Yoko Reikano Kimura \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces. Yoko has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the prestigious 10th Kenjun Memorial National Koto Competition as the first Yamada style koto performer. She received the First Prize at the 4th Great Wall International Music Competition and the Osaka Chinese Counsel Award and won the Japanese music audition for NHK-FM radio and her solo shamisen performance was broadcasted nationally. Since then she has performed numerous koto and shamisen pieces for the radio and regularly toured internationally. \nSince Yoko moved to the US in 2010\, her mission has been to promote Japanese music to American audiences. As part of this mission she is performing and giving workshops at various venues\, such as the UN\, Merkin\, Bargemusic\, Roulette\, Princeton University\, Japan Society\, Harvard University\, Princeton University\, the New England Conservatory\, the University of Chicago\, Duke University and many others. http://www.yamadaryu.com/reikano/ \nAs part of the award-winning Duo Yumeno\, she has  released the album Flowers\, Birds\, Wind\, Moon:  The Music of Marty Regan. SUMMARY:Monthly Workshop Series: Saturdays\, Self-Care & Sisterhood
DESCRIPTION:“More women cry\, loudly or silently\, every fraction of every moment\, in every town of every country\, than anyone–man or woman–realizes. We cry for our children\, our lovers\, our parents\, and ourselves.\nWe cry in shame because we feel no right to cry\, and we cry in peace because we feel it’s time we did cry. We cry for the world. Yet we think we cry alone. \nWe feel that no one hears\, that there is no listening that matters. And we must all listen now.” \n– Marianne Williamson \nThis monthly workshop series is for the woman who refuses to brave these socially\, racially\, politically\, and economically trying times alone. It is for the woman who desires an overhaul and transformation of her relationship to wellbeing\, as it relates to the myriad of stressors that overcome us\, as both individuals and within the context of being in community. These workshops will explore a definition of self-care that does not require putting off your wellbeing until a holiday break\, nor does it require a membership at an expensive yoga studio. Together we will begin an inquiry into perceiving ourselves and our communities as resources to tap for resilience and wellbeing moment to moment and day by day. You will gain lasting practical tools to make self-care an integrated and powerful support for your life. Through yoga\, mindfulness\, journaling\, partner work\, and group discussion\, the creation of a powerful and playful sister circle\, and occasional guest facilitators\, you will unearth answers to these questions and more: \nHow does my breath support my physiological wellbeing? \nWhat forms of movement\, exercise and nourishment does my body need to feel balanced and healthy so that I can feel at home in my own skin? \nHow do I find time to slow down\, restore myself and avoid burnout? \nHow can I transform my busy mind into an ally? \nHow do I get better at aligning my intentions with actionable steps and the realization of my dream of a life I love? \nHow do I create emotional\, physical and mental balance so that I can sustain the demands of my partner\, my family\, my profession\, and the social and emotional challenges of the times AND maintain my wellbeing? \nHow do I create community around my self-care efforts so that I am supported by those with like intentions on an ongoing basis? \nWhat brings me joy and how do I infuse play back into my life? \nWeek 1 – Saturday\, January 27\, 11-2pm: Creating Community & Exploring Wellbeing Toolkit Essentials* \nNOTE: All workshops in this monthly series are appropriate for participants of ALL levels of yoga and mindfulness experience. \nCost:\nEarly bird rate by January 20: $45\nAfter January 20: $60 \nTo register\, click here:\nhttp://crystalmccrearyyoga.com/schedule/workshops/\n \nFor more details\, please email cmccrearyyoga@gmail.com\, or register today because space is limited!

SUMMARY:Concert: Megumi Saruhashi Quartet — Arabian Fairies
DESCRIPTION:Boarder-crossing violinist Megumi Saruhashi presents “From the Music Room in the Inner Space – Arabian Fairies\,” an evening of her original compositions in the award-winning White Room at CRS on Saturday 1/27/18 from 7 – 8:30 pm. Joining her are Alon Nechushtan on piano\, Brian Prunka on oud\, and Dan Kurfirst on percussion. Tickets are $25 and are available online at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3231800. \n Megumi Saruhashi’s music is ignited by a wide range of influences\, including Arabic music\, jazz\, classical\, tango\, gospel\, minimalism and many more. Focusing on the intersections and connections between music and the soul\, Saruhashi uses her musical training to form new and unexpected alliances between musical genres. Believing herself to be a conduit that synthesizes the musical and spiritual realms\, Saruhashi refers to herself as a “hollow bone.” She strives to draw out the consciousness of listeners and connect on a deeply spiritual level that cuts across cultural and sonic barriers. \n“My ability to flow between different musical genres and cultures means I have the skill to create a musical alchemy. Responding to the whispers of the internal world of spirit\, I draw this into the present moment. Being able to be a hollow bone – a flute of the music of God – and share that music that I receive from the source and to be able to share that with the world is my passion. I’m a transmitter of God\, as all of us are.” — Megumi Saruhashi \nMegumi is a native of Japan and currently resides in Brooklyn. She has performed in almost every corner of the world from Carnegie Hall to Lebanon and for audiences as large as 60\,000. Every year she travels to the Middle East to provide musical workshops and concerts at refugee camps\, and her work has been featured on ABC\, CBS\, and Fox News. http://www.megumisaruhashi.com \nAlon Nechushtan’s music adventures has brought him to various far corners of the globe such as the Yokohama ‘Rejoicing Sounds’ Festival in Japan with his contemporary orchestral compositions\, The Manila Cultural Center of the Arts\, with his Clarinet Concerto for the Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra\, The Sao-Paolo Brazil Jewish Music Festival with his groove based Quintet Talat\, Toronto and Montreal with his words beyond Jazz Trio and Tel Aviv New Music Biannale with his Compositions for Large Ensemble. A resident of New York City\, Alon has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall\, Jazz @ Lincoln Center\, Central Park Summer Stage\, The Blue Note Jazz Club and the Kennedy Center with his projects as a band leader of various groups or as an in demand sideman. In October 2015 the Kennedy Center comissioned from Alon Nechushtan a new piece for Billy Strayhorn Centennial Celebration\, followed by a Far East tour in China and Phillipines\, along with Jazz Festivals in Belo Horizonte-Brazil\, Israel. In 2017 the Smithsonian Museum in Washington\, D.C commissioned from Alon Nechushtan a new program of Thelonious Monk’s less known compositions. All About Jazz magazine called him “A fantastic pianist-composerwith abundant chemistry and boundless eclectisism”\, while DownBeat Magazine  recognizes “A talent to watch\, with a surfeit of ideas\, an unbridled spirit and bold\,two-fisted sense of Architecture.” http://musicalon.com \nPrior to moving to Brooklyn in 2003\, Brian Prunka was living and performing in New Orleans\, where he spent his musically formative years honing his musical skills immersed in the jazz community. While his background was in traditional and modern jazz\, as well as the rock and blues music of his teenage years\, Brian has always found himself drawn to a wide range of music without regard to boundaries\, national or otherwise. In the late 90s\, fate introduced him to the oud\, and he had an instant and profound connection with this storied instrument. A chance conversation led him to begin studying with the renowned virtuoso Simon Shaheen and ultimately to becoming involved in the Arabic music community as well. He has sought over the years to find ways to bring together the essential characteristics of all the music he loves through both his improvisational style and his many diverse compositions. These days equally proficient on both guitar and oud\, Brian composes and performs jazz and middle-eastern influenced music with his own projects (such as the Near East River Ensemble) and with musicians such as Michael Bates and Simon Shaheen. He currently performs with Nashaz\, Sharq Attack\, Zikrayat\, the Bil Afrah Project and others. He has performed throughout the U.S. and internationally with Simon Shaheen\, Michael Bates\, Ravish Momin\, the New York Arabic Orchestra\, The Vancouver International Orchestra\, Zikrayat\, The Near East River Ensemble\, and others. In addition to national and international events\, he has performed in New York at The Stone\, Tonic\, the Knitting Factory\, the River to River Festival\, Symphony Space\, Alwan for the Arts\, Trinity Church\, Rooftop Films\, Bronx River Arts Center\, Bethlehem MusikFest\, the Abode of the Message\, and CBGBs\, among others. He has received grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council and NY Dept. of Cultural Affairs\, and was an instructor in oud and Arabic music theory at Simon Shaheen’s Arabic Music Retreat from 2012-2014.Brian Prunka currently performs on D’angelico and Gibson guitars and Fender amplifiers. http://www.brianprunka.com \nDan Kurfirst is an NYC based percussionist\, composer and improviser. Born and raised in Brooklyn\, NY\, his music is a product of his good fortune to have been brought up amongst people of all different cultures and master practitioners of varying musical styles. He has formally studied the Drumset with Nasheet Waits\, Tariq Snare and Gregg Bendian. He has studied percussion under the tutelage of Shane Shanahan and Hakan Kaya. He has performed extensively in the New York City world music and improvised music scenes for years and has performed with various groups throughout Europe\, India and the Middle East. The beautiful human beings that he has had the pleasure to work with are too numerous to list in total\, but some of them are: Gabriel Marin\, Matt Darriau\, Brandon Terzic\, Adam Rudolph\, Daniel Carter\, Ras Moshe\, Daro Behroozi\, Kane Mathis\, Brian Prunka\, Abraham Mennen and Ben Cohen. Dan leads Spheric Sound Unit\, a group dedicated to exploring cultural syncretism through music. He also co-leads Ensemble Fanaa\, a trio which explores the intersection between African American\, North African and Middle Eastern musical traditions. He recently worked as Musical Director for the Childrens Museum of Manhattan’s America To Zanzibar exhibit\, helping to develop a touchscreen application for the “A Children to explore music of the Islamic world from India to Egypt to Indonesia. http://dankurfirstmusic.com

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Happy Peace — Paintings by Kimi Tea
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents Happy Peace\, an exhibition of 13 paintings by CRS A Course in Miracles student Kimi Tea (Kimiko Tsukada). Angels\, dancers\, healers\, mermaids\, animals\, and lovers populate Kimi’s dreamy landscapes\, evoking the fanatical delights of the inner world of childhood — or perhaps an idyllic adulthood liberated from anger\, guilt and fear. The paintings will be on view from February 8 – March 8\, 2018. An Opening Reception will be held on February 8\, 2018 from 8:30 – 9:30 pm. \nA web designer by trade\, Kimi was sent by her office to Los Angeles in 2014 and was diagnosed with cancer shortly thereafter. Faced with this challenge\, she decided in March 2016 to begin something she had always wanted to pursue: painting. Her newfound passion became her prayer\, for herself and for the world. As her painting developed\, she began to receive opportunities to share her work. Last fall her illustration graced the poster and program cover of Zai\, a live dance/music/theatre production created by members of the CRS community. While Kimi was recently referred to hospice\, the beauty of her creations continues to inspire\, demonstrating that love’s power transcends any limitations of the body. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/pg/hapiePeace \nhttps://www.facebook.com/kimitea

SUMMARY:Meditation and Healing Prayers - The lost art of praying
DESCRIPTION:~~~ What we’ll do ~~~\n\nWe will come together as a group\, to learn the basics of the lost art of truly praying by bringing mindfulness\, feelings and visualization to our prayers and to jointly send healing prayers to those we want to help. \nWe focus on and pray in the Light. We only accept positive\, loving healing intentions. When we add feeling to our prayers and become one with Spirit –or the divinity or power of your understanding — supported by the silence of meditation\, we express our most loving and pure intentions and let the divine handle the details. \nThe meeting would tentatively follow this agenda: \n• A brief 10-minute introduction to prayer according to Chopra\, Larry Dossey\, Gregg Braden\, Lynne McTaggart\, etc. \n• A 15-minute meditation to prepare our mind and body into stillness to enable our connection to our heart and the Universe (you can call it god\, love\, fountain\, the matrix\, what we call that universal power does not matter.) \n• 15 to 20-minute prayers. I will give suggestions for words or images to use as healing prayers. If you want the group to pray for someone not present\, bring the initials and the condition to heal in a piece of paper when you come in. \nI like to include the channeling of Johrei and Reiki while praying for others\, and you might also want to include your healing modalities too\, but let me know ahead of time to make sure that there is a smooth interaction with the other members. \n~~~ What to bring ~~~\nSimply\, yourself and an open\, positive attitude! We will sit in chairs\, but if you prefer to bring a meditation cushion\, you may. There is a suggested donation of $10 for this event. \n~~~ Important to know ~~~\nI ask that you bring intentions of love and healing\, compassion and light.
