SUMMARY:Free Program: Remembering Executive Order 9066 and America’s WWII Era Concentration Camps
DESCRIPTION:On February 19\, 2018 at 7:30 pm CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invites you to join us for a free program on the Day of Remembrance to reflect on the 76th anniversary of the signing by President Franklin D. Roosevelt of Executive Order 9066\, which authorized the Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones\, clearing the way for the mass forced incarceration of Japanese Americans in U.S. concentration camps. The program will include presentations by MoustacheCat Dance\, internment camp photographer and NY Day of Remembrance Committee member Stan Honda\, and Megumi Eda of Yoshiko Chuma and The school of Hard Knocks [SOHK]. Additional speakers may be added. \n2018 is also the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988\, the legislation that provided a formal apology from the US government and monetary reparations to survivors of the forced evacuation and mass incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. \nMoustacheCat Dance will present a short excerpt of its work-in-progress “Freedom isn’t Free\,” an evening length work choreographed by Kaoru Ikeda that explores the biased reactions that resulted in the interning of tens of thousands of American residents and citizens during World War II. The work also reflects on current biased reactions to people of various races\, religions\, and ethnicities in the United States. The excerpt that we will see expresses Japanese Americans’ struggle to resist anti-Japanese American agitation and laws that called for their imprisonment. \nStan Honda will present images from a new book\, Moving Walls: The Barracks of America’s Concentration Camps (available for order from the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles) that was done in collaboration with author Sharon Yamato and will preview the New York Day of Remembrance Committees’ Feb. 24 program. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/187023051880314/ \nYoshiko Chuma and The school of Hard Knocks will show about 15 minutes of video consisting of several sequences created by Megumi Eda using footage from her time with SOHK and additional recent documentation of SOHK work in Las Vegas related to the National Atomic Testing Musuem. Following tonight’s screening\, Eda will share her experiences making this work. \nMoustacheCat Dance has been working on “Freedom isn’t Free” since 2014. The work originated as a short solo dedicated to Japanese Americans who were sent to the camps. Currently\, the company is in the process expanded it into an evening-length group piece to inspire audiences\, through dance\, to think about how we can make this world a better place together. The full work will premiere May 10 – 12\, 2018 at University Settlement in NYC. \n \nYoshiko Chuma and the School of Hard Knocks in NYC has continued seeking and creating visible and invisible performances for more than 40 years. You may check out their history on The School of Hard Knocks web site. Dancer/choreographer/filmmaker Megumi Eda\, a new core member of The School of Hard Knocks since 2014\, has been filming much of the company’s work and editing the footage into unique creations. \n \nSTAN HONDA is a New York-based photographer and worked as a photojournalist for 34 years\, most recently for Agence France-Presse (AFP)\, the French news agency. He covered a wide range of topics including news events\, politics\, economics\, sports and human interest stories. Photographing the space shuttle program for five years was a highlight of his time at AFP since he has been following the space program since childhood. Personal projects include documenting the U.S. concentration camps where Japanese Americans were incarcerated during World War II\, his parents and relatives among those held. Photos of the sites and survivors can be seen in the Internment Camp section of his web site. A continuing project involves night sky landscapes\, combining his long time interest in astronomy and photography. He has worked as an artist-in-residence at five national parks: the Grand Canyon\, Petrified Forest\, Wupatki in Arizona\, Rocky Mountain in Colorado and Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico\, photographing the sky and the landscape with the aim of helping preserve our view of the night sky. Photography of Chaco Culture and Wuptaki helped both parks being designated as International Dark Sky Parks. He manages to photograph celestial events even from New York City. http://www.stanhonda.com \nKAORU IKEDA\, dancer\, choreographer and founder of MoustacheCat Dance\, is originally from Osaka\, Japan where she had Classic Ballet Training at Homura Tomoi Ballet Company School and became one of the selected student members to perform in the Japanese premier of “La Bayadçre” and in other productions with the ballet company. After she had a long break from dance\, during which time she played percussion and won a gold prize in percussion ensemble\, she decided to go back and dedicate her life to dance. Ms. Ikeda graduated from Nihon University with a BA in Dance. While living in Tokyo\, Japan\, she had the honor to work with important Japanese dance choreographers. She earned an MFA in Dance at New York University\, Tisch School of the Arts\, where her major performances included Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane’s “Continuous Replay.” Ms. Ikeda has trained\, performed\, and choreographed work that has been described as “perfectly realized dance” (offoffoffdance\, 2005) and “moving poetry” (Eyes on Arts\, 2012)\, and she has taught dance ranging from classical ballet to Butoh to modern dance. Her work has taken her to the US\, Japan\, South Korea\, and Mexico. As a dancer\, Ms. Ikeda has worked with LIFEDANCE/Gloria McLean and Dancers\, Jeramy Zimeramen/CatScratch Theatre\, Laura Shapiro/quicksilverdance\, Aviva Geismar/Drastic Action\, and Natsu Nakajima/Mutekisya. In 2015\, Ms. Ikeda founded a dance company “MoustacheCat Dance” to present her voice and fight against prejudice through dance. \nMOUSTACHECAT DANCE was founded by Kaoru Ikeda in 2015 to fight against prejudice through dance. In early 2015\, the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Ⅱ\, Ms. Ikeda started working on a project based on the history of Japanese American Internment Camps during the war\, to dedicate to Japanese Americans who were sent to the camps. However\, the more she researched\, she faced the reality that there are so many types of prejudice all over the word. It could come from one’s skin color\, religion\, culture\, and belief. There is a tendency to make a judgment about people based on difference without knowing anything about the other. This generates prejudice. In order not to make the same mistakes over and over\, Ms. Ikeda realized that we must learn from history and respect each other so that we can make a better future. MoustacheCat Dance has a very wide range of projects. It is inspired by local and global situation and historical events that demonstrate immorality and injustice. MoustacheCat Dance wants to invite the audience to think about the kind of world we are living in\, and how\, together\, we can make this world a better place. From Ms. Ikeda’s experiences dancing internationally\, she has concluded that dance can cross the barrier of cultures. MoustacheCat Dance’s projects present as her voice to reach people beyond any differences\, to cross the borders and fight against prejudice through dance. http://moustachecatdance.org \nYOSHIKO CHUMA (conceptual artist/choreographer/artistic director of The School of Hard Knocks) has been a firebrand of New York’s downtown dance scene since arriving in 1978. She has created more than 60 full-length company works\, commissions and site-specific events for venues in 35 countries\, constantly challenging the notion of performing for both audience and participant. Her work has been presented in such diverse venues as Joyce Theater\, the Eiffel Tower\, Newcastle Swing Bridge\, City Center\, Lincoln Center\, the former National Theater of Sarajevo\, the perimeter of the Hong Kong harbor\, and an ancient ruin in Macedonia\, and in Jordan\, among others. She has received fellowships and awards for choreography and career work from John Simon Guggenheim Foundation\, NEA\, New York Foundation for Artists\, Japan Foundation\, Meet the Composer Choreographer/Composer Commission and Philip Morris New Works. Chuma has led workshops and master classes and been commissioned to create new work in East and West Europe\, Asia\, Russia and the U.S. She received a 1984 BESSIE award for choreography and four more Bessies were awarded to her productions in 1992 and 1998. In 2007 she received a Bessie for Sustained Achievement. Chuma was Artistic Director of the Daghdha Dance Company in Limerick\, Ireland from 2000-03 and continues to work in Ireland as a guest teacher/choreographer in the Dance MA program of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. http://www.yoshikochuma.org \nMEGUMI EDA born in Nagano\, Japan\, Megumi had her professional debut with the Matsuyama Ballet Company at age 14 in Tokyo where she appeared in many of the ballet classics in repertoire. She appeared successfully in the Prix de Lausanne Competition in 1991 and was invited to join the Hamburg Ballet School\, where soon after she joined the company working with Mats Ek and choreographer/director John Neumeier. She spent 15 years in Europe (Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam\, Rambert Dance Company in London etc..)\, worked and toured all over the world constantly with these companies and participated in the creation of 30-40 new works with various artist/ collaborators including Christopher Bruce\, Jiri Kylian\, Lindsey Kemp\, William Forsythe\, Hans van Manen\, David Dawson\, and Redha. A decade ago she moved to NY to joined Armitage Gone! Dance. In 2004 she received a Bessie Award for her performance in the company’s inaugural piece and has continued a close collaboration with Karole Armitage to this day. Now\, as a freelance artist\, she has begun to incorporate other art forms including sculpture\, video and graphics into her installations and performances. She has been working/collaborating with Yoshiko Chuma since 2014 as a Dancer and filmmaker. www.megumieda.com \nTHE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS (Founded in 1984) is an award-winning collaborative effort of choreographers\, dancers\, actors\, singers\, musicians\, designers\, and visual artists working under the artistic direction of Yoshiko Chuma. The School of Hard Knocks\, which takes its name from the American idiom meaning to learn things the hard way\, was the title of the company’s first production\, a collaboration between Yoshiko Chuma\, Jacob Burckhardt (filmmaker) and Alvin Curran (musician) presented at the 1980 Venice Biennale. Over the course of the company’s history\, more than 1\,000 people have performed under Chuma’s direction in situations ranging from theatrical dance concerts to street performances\, parades\, large-scale spectacles and intimate Living Room Projects\, Chuma’s signature program which brings post modern music and dance performance to homes\, businesses and community centers. Living Room Projects have been performed in homes in Budapest\, a car show room in Nagoya\, and gardens in the East Village of New York City. Since its foundation in 1984\, the company has created and performed original works in the U.S.\, Europe and in Asia and has welcomed over 1\,000 performers to participate in theatrical dance concerts\, street performances\, parades\, and large-scale spectacles. \nThe School of Hard Knocks has created and performed original works in their annual New York season\, and on tour in the United States\, Asia\, and Europe\, with a particular focus on Eastern European countries\, including Slovakia\, Bulgaria\, Romania\, Czech Republic\, Poland\, Hungary\, the Baltic Republics\, and Bosnia. In the last five years\, The School of Hard Knocks has made a commitment to offering young dancers from Japan international exposure and opportunity. \nMore on the Internment from wikipedia.com: \nAs a result of the Order\, “approximately 120\,000 men\, women\, and children of Japanese ancestry were evicted from the West Coast of the United States and held in American concentration camps and other confinement sites across the country.” \n“In early 1941\, President Roosevelt secretly commissioned a study to assess the possibility that Japanese Americans would pose a threat to U.S. security. The report\, submitted exactly one month before Pearl Harbor was bombed\, found that\, “There will be no armed uprising of Japanese” in the United States. “For the most part\,” the Munson Report said\, “the local Japanese are loyal to the United States or\, at worst\, hope that by remaining quiet they can avoid concentration camps or irresponsible mobs.” A second investigation started in 1940\, written by Naval Intelligence officer Kenneth Ringle and submitted in January 1942\, likewise found no evidence of fifth column activity and urged against mass incarceration. Both were ignored. \n“Over two-thirds of the people of Japanese ethnicity were incarcerated—almost 70\,000—were American citizens. Many of the rest had lived in the country between 20 and 40 years. Most Japanese Americans\, particularly the first generation born in the United States (the nisei)\, considered themselves loyal to the United States of America. No Japanese American citizen or Japanese national residing in the United States was ever found guilty of sabotage or espionage.” \n

SUMMARY:Exhibition: The Color of Energy — Recent Paintings by Janet Morgan
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents “The Color of Energy — Recent Paintings by Janet Morgan. The exhibition will open on March 10\, 2018 and will be on view until May 8\, 2018. There will be an Opening Reception with the artist on March 10 from 6 – 8 pm. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nWe think of our bodies as solid\, enclosed\, finite\, self sufficient\, contained. But we share many things\, visible and not\, with the world around us. We share energy of all kinds with other beings\, plants\, machines\, nature and the cosmos. We take for granted our life partner — our physical being — who makes life possible and carries us through this world for decades and sometimes for a century. We move not through the world but as part of it\, sharing breath\, resources\, spirit and life energy. \nMy artwork is grounded in the body\, the kinesthetic: movement\, music\, and dance — and in the body’s subtle forces — emotional\, spiritual and healing energies. The quest for the underlying energy source runs through all of my work — like the Sufis I find no separation between the divine and the body. And why is this work be important? We live in a time of much anger and violence\, and communication is often disembodied. The disconnect between ourselves and the natural world is causing serious problems. We need to come home to our bodies\, our animal-ness\, our human-ness\, our body-temples. \nMy artistic practice covers a vast range of work\, mainly painting and drawing\, but also community environmental art and collaboration. The art includes landscapes painted all over the world\, and a few large series of works grounded in the body: 200 large watercolors of traditional and new deities (I teach a workshop on making your own deities)\, wild women\, dancers and now art about the body’s energy. I have enjoyed collaborations with dancers\, scientists\, movement teachers\, and writers. I have taught at the Rubin Museum of Art\, The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors\, the Art Students League and the Canyons of Utah. \nhttp://www.janetmorgan-art.net \n

SUMMARY:Remembering 3/11 – CRS Healing Circle to Benefit Ishinomaki\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:CRS and the One Note\, One Spirit sound community invite you to join us on Saturday\, March 10\, 2018 at 8 pm for a community healing circle to demonstrate oneness with the people of Tohoku\, Japan affected by the earthquake\, tsunami and nuclear disaster of March 11\, 2011. We will gather in a big circle to drum\, sing\, dance\, play and remember the limitless strength and love of the people of Tohoku. By doing so\, we will remind ourselves that we are the same\, still shining and perfect as Love created us\, and that our love and mind power can reach far beyond the limits of our bodies to work miracles for one another. So this event is as much for us as it is for the people in Japan. It’s for everyone. \nEveryone can participate musically in the circle\, and there will be performances by dancers Lale Sayoko of Bella Gaia and Shoko Tamai of Ninja Ballet and by musical acts Saco Yasuma & Sakurako Kataoka\, LayLa Lulla\, and Kana Kamitsubo Markovic. Additional acts may join. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced\, only willing to join. If you don’t have an instrument you can express yourself with one of our rattles or with your voice or by clapping or making sound in your own way. In this circle\, amateur and professional can both share their love equally. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another without judgment as we express ourselves and come together through oneness of intention. \nThe event follows a free Opening Reception for the exhibition “The Color of Energy — Recent Paintings by Janet Morgan” which will take place from 6 – 8 pm. Have a glass of wine with the artist and then join in the healing circle. \nThere is a suggested donation of $20 cash (more is welcome!) and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the non-profit community center “O-Link House” in Ishinomaki-Shi\, Ogatsu-Cho in the Miyagi prefecture of Tohuku\, Japan\, which was decimated by the disaster. O-Link House provides community arts\, crafts\, healing and cultural programming (even music circles for all levels like CRS) and advocacy for the people who remain in the most isolated part of Ishinomaki.\nhttps://www.o-link.org

SUMMARY:CRS Healing Circle: Prayer\, Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to join us for our monthly healing circle. We gather to meditate\, drum\, sing\, dance\, pray and remember the divine strength within ourselves. We also support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nPlease feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, flute\, whistle\, chimes\, singing bowl\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on March 15. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. As you act as a conduit in the Turn\, the light comes through the right hand\, and the left hand brings it into this world… We turn for God and for the world\, and it is the most beautiful thing you can imagine. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nAbout Lale Sayoko \nLale was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com

SUMMARY:Song and Sound: Meditation and Listening Journey
DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to the next installment of our meditation and live music series with singer/songwriter/trumpeter Rhys Tivey & friends (vocalist Joy Elysse and guitarist Thomas Monkell). These are their first full-band shows since June\, so they’ll be playing some new songs\, many of which were first written at Hawthorne Valley Farm this past summer. \nThe program will take place in the award-winning White Room at CRS on Friday\, March 16\, 2018 at 6 pm. Tickets are $20 and are available by phone (212-677-8621)\, online and at the door. \nOut of the deep relaxation and stillness of meditation\, Rhys Tivey and friends tap into the healing qualities of music and storytelling to perform a careful selection of originals and cover songs and lead participants on a folk-fusion song journey. This concert is an opportunity for participants to connect within themselves\, and with one another through sharing before and after\, and with the experience of song-listening. \nJoy Elysse is a Brooklyn-based vocalist and composer who creates cinematic\, genre-bending music. After receiving her BA in English Literature from Princeton University\, Elysse has subsequently spent her time in NYC exploring wide-ranging sounds and styles while performing in jazz\, folk\, indie-soul\, and psychedelic salsa groups. She’s taken cues from these many influences to develop an eclectic\, yet fundamentally emotive songwriting style propelled by her passion for words and imagery. Elysse’s debut EP is set to arrive in early Summer 2018. http://elyssemusic.com \nThomas Monkell is a NYC based guitarist\, composer\, and arranger. Active on the NYC musical theatre circuit\, Tom has played guitar for the Broadway productions of Wicked\, The Book of Mormon\, Matilda\, Chicago\, Dear Evan Hansen\, Cats\, and Come From Away. Tom’s guitar orchestrations were featured in the New York Times Critics’ Pick Off-Broadway production of The Pen as part of the 2016 Inner Voices new musical series. Other Off-Broadway credits include: Bastard Jones\, Gigantic\, Wringer\, and Shoes and Baggage. http://tommonkell.weebly.com \nRhys Tivey is a singer\, trumpeter\, songwriter\, and yoga teacher. He received his yoga training from the Integral Yoga Institute. With a background in jazz performance (NYU-Steinhardt)\, Tivey crafts an eclectic and wholly unique mixture of folk\, rock\, soul\, and jazz for performances in New York City (Cutting Room\, Cornelia St Cafe\, Mercury Lounge…)\, and has performed internationally (Mexico\, Italy\, Wales\, Germany\, Austria\, Czech Republic). SUMMARY:USAATO Clothing Exhibition & Sale
DESCRIPTION:CRS welcomes you to the second exhibition of USAATO clothing at CRS! USAATO shares beautiful traditional clothes made in Chiang Mai\, Thailand. The clothing is designed by Japanese haute couture designer Usaburo Sato with fabrics made by the caring hands of the Thai people. The fabrics are made of cotton\, silk and hemp\, picked in mountains and villages\, naturally dyed from plants and fruits\, then made into clothes with traditional weaving machines by women in local villages of Thailand and Laos. The attention\, time and passion put into the creation of these clothes give it a sense of energy that can be felt on your body and in your soul. Soft and warm\, relaxing wears suitable for both outside and home. \nAll fabrics are once gathered at “USAATO SIAM” in Chiang Mai and then delivered for the sewing process. USAATO clothes are sewn by individuals and groups outbound Chiang Mai\, not by the company’s factory. (One part of our products is from machine-weaving.) \nThe products are mostly women’s clothes but men’s clothes\, children’s clothes\, samue (monk’s working clothes)\, and rakui (pajamas) are also available. Approximate prices for tops are from $70 to $180 while bottoms are from $90 to $180. \nUSAATO clothes are selling all over the world at pop-up exhibitions organized by USAATO partners called coordinators. SUMMARY:Four Seasons in NY: Gems of Japanese Music
DESCRIPTION:CRS & Mar Creation\, Inc. invite you to discover traditional Japanese music by the acclaimed koto and shamisen player Yoko Reikano Kimura\, offered together with an exclusive taste of beautiful Japanese seasonal sweets prepared by Rin NYC. The next concert will take place in the award-winning White Room at CRS on Sunday\, April 1\, 2018 at 4 pm. Tickets are $25 and include delicious wagashi (sweets). Seating is limited and advanced purchased (online\, by phone 212-677-8621\, or in person at CRS) is encouraged. \nThis season’s program will include one song for shamisen (TBA) and two for koto: \nSekiheki no Fu – Prose-poem on the Red Cliff – (Kin’ichi Nakanoshima) koto\n Mittsu no Dansho – Three Fragments – (Kin’ichi Nakanoshima) koto \n“…Yoko Reikano Kimura\, playing the shamisen and singing\, is superb….” — New York Times \n“…Kimura’s performance on the solo shamisen was quite stunning. An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nAfter many centuries\, the brilliance of traditional Japanese music is still being passed on to the present day. Come and experience the sounds of koto and shamisen and enjoy the taste of the four seasons here in New York. This concert series will feature each season’s representative traditional works along with the colorful and delicate Japanese style confectionaries. \nThis will be the third concert of Volume 3 of this seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music. The final concert in this season is planned for August 12 at 4 pm. \n\nEach season is expressed through ingredients. Spring traditionally begins with sakura (cherry blossoms)\, broccoli rabe\, strawberries and raspberries\, followed by elderflower\, rose\, edamame and sansho (Japanese pepper) in summer. As autumn approaches we’ll pick chrysanthemum\, apples\, grapes\, chestnuts and hazelnuts; and yuzu and kumquats in winter…. Even within one season\, the taste and the form change gradually from hashiri through nagori. \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY. \nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \n  \n  \nMore about Yoko Reikano Kimura \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces. SUMMARY:Intro to The Spiritual Psychology of Acting with John Osborne Hughes
DESCRIPTION:CRS is delighted to welcome back renowned British acting teacher and director John Osborne Hughes for a fabulously entertaining introductory three day workshop in cutting edge actor training for mind\, body\, and soul. John is an extremely charismatic and compassionate soul who can teach you precisely what acting is and\, more importantly\, teach you to get out of your own way so that you\, too\, can perform with complete conviction\, integrity\, and charisma. \nFriday\, April 13 from  6.30 – 9.30 pm\nSaturday\, April 14th from 11 am – 5.45 pm\nSunday\, April 15  from 11 am – 5.45 pm \nWorkshop fee: $390 \nSPECIAL OFFER\nFrom now until Midnight on Sunday\, March\, 18 you will be able to purchase your place for the workshop for the special discounted price of $340. \nReserve you place now with a $195 deposit and pay the discounted balance on the first day. \nThe training is designed to create actors of the highest calibre; a delight to work with and ultimately an inspiration to watch. \nSimple meditation and practical exercises will be introduced to each student to assimilate the basic techniques. \nWARNING\nTHIS WORKSHOP WILL EXPAND YOUR MIND AND FREE YOUR SPIRIT! \nThe philosophy\, principles and techniques of the art acting for newcomers and professionals seeking something more… \nThe Spiritual Psychology of Acting is a unique fusion of the teachings of the great Russian stage directors of the 20th Century\, cutting edge Psychology and Spiritual Philosophy from both East and West. \nDuring the workshop you will learn: \n+ The Three main purposes of Theatre/ Cinematic Art.\n+ The principles of Great Acting.\n+ The Qualities of a Great Actor.\n+ Four Key Questions for designing a Character\n+ Mind Triads: The three essential elements of the Characters psyche.\n+ How to develop Awareness (the ability to observe our own thoughts)\, in order to dissolve creative blocks and gather material out of which we can create unique characters.\n+ The secrets of Charisma and Stage/Screen Presence. How to develop them.\n+ The psychology of casting. How to prepare for auditions like a pro.\n+ The Principles of Zen and the Art of Acting.\n+ Imagination and the actor \nTo really understand the essence of pure acting technique and the process of creating characters\,  the actor must first understand the psychological process which created his or her own character in life. Once we truly understand how these natural principles have created and shaped our own characters\, we can learn to harness this knowledge\, engage it at will and allow it to serve as our creative technique. \nThis rewarding and fascinating process not only creates truthful\, dynamic acting\, it also serves to to heal the actor of his or her own psychological limits and burdens\, thus providing the freedom of imagination to create any character. \nThe training is designed to create actors of the highest calibre; a delight to work with and ultimately an inspiration to watch. \nSimple meditation and practical exercises will be introduced to each student to assimilate the basic techniques. \n About John Osborne Hughes \nJohn began his training as an Actor on the Hampshire County Specialist Speech and Drama Course\, where he was awarded a special commendation for best actor. He then trained for a another three years at The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London\, and then for a further two years as a Stage Director with teacher Sam Kogan\, in Association with The Moscow Institute of Theatre Arts. \nAfter graduation he worked as an actor and stage director. Productions included the British Premiere of William Mastrosimones\, ‘Cat’s Paw‘\,  ‘Ecstasy‘ by Mike Leigh\, which met with critical acclaim; Time Out’s Critic’s Choice and What’s On saying it was “Quite simply the best ensemble acting seen on the West End stage in years“. \nInspired by this\, he then developed his own company\, Miracle Tree Productions\, for which he wrote\, directed and performed in the hugely successful\, “Beyond Ecstasy”. The show enjoyed sell out runs in both London and Edinburgh\, was Time Out’s and The Guardian’scritic’s choice and won the Creative Freedom Award for best theatrical production. \nIn response to requests from friends and colleagues\, he then launched a training department for Miracle Tree Production and began teaching regular classes and workshops in acting technique and the principles of dramatic art . Grounded by his background in the System of Stanislavski\, he began an in-depth study of the laws of Psychology and Human Zoology\, and endeavoured to explore their application within the context of the art of acting. \nThe system that evolved was then further enriched by the study of Mythology and Philosophy\, in particular the Advaita Vedanta wisdom teaching from the Himalayas\, through which he was introduced to the practice of meditation. This proved to be the master key in helping the actor to develop charisma and stage presence and it was at this point that The Spiritual Psychology Of Acting was born. \nJohn has taught extensively in London\, New York and Los Angeles. He has trained some of the U.K.s brightest actors who have gone on to work in Hollywood\, International feature films\, T.V.\, Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theatre. John’s approach to acting is considered by many to be the cutting edge of actor training available in the world today. \n
