SUMMARY:Exhibition: The Mortal Apparatus — Photographs of Flowers & Cityscapes by Chris Fiore
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents The Mortal Apparatus\, an exhibition of photographs of fading flowers and cityscapes by Chris Fiore. A mix of color and b&w\, the photographs are all clearly digitally manipulated and highlight the artificiality and intentionality of the photographic act. The images call attention to the often overlooked beauty that can be found in decaying objects\, natural and man-made\, suggesting how our minds look for signs of the eternal in the ephemeral and create new layers of meaning. Ultimately\, these works invite us to consider how our thoughts touch and re-make everything we look upon. \nThe exhibition opens on September 14\, 2017 and will remain on view until November 30\, 2017. An Opening Reception with the artist will take place on Friday\, September 22\, 2017 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. \nIn conjunction with the exhibition\, two free evenings of screenings of film/video work by the artist will take place on October 13 (“Goodman” and “The Red Umbrella Diaries”) and on November 10 (world premiere of “The Ken Stones:  Miami” and A(DE)SCENT”) from 7:30 – 10 pm. Seating for these screenings is limited and available on a first come\, first serve basis. \nArtist’s Exhibition Statement: \nFrom time immemorial the nature of what we value most has been defined in human terms; our families\, our villages\, our rulers\, our religions\, have defined us in ways intrinsic to our nature as people\, as father\, mother\, sister\, brother\, friend\, and neighbor\, etc. We lived in a world of barter and local currencies defined by our communities and shared needs. \nThen the industrial revolution introduced a new set of values as we had an entirely new thing to measure ourselves against: the ubiquitous machine. Mechanical things that could weave\, move\, and manufacture faster than any human began to shape the lives of millions of people who moved from farms and villages to the cities (massive machines themselves) in search of factory work. This shaping of our lives by technology and factory work has since enveloped the world and affects every aspect of our lives. \nWilling or not\, we are supplicants to the mechanical and the cybernetic. From the moment our parents sat us down in front of a screen\, be it a television\, tablet\, or phone\, automation has literally shaped our minds\, our perception of reality\, and in turn\, what we value. We are no longer strictly human and the velocity of our technologies make us less so every day. In short\, we are already cyborgs. \nArtist Statement \nThe camera is my favorite machine. To me\, the camera has transcended its nature as a mechanical device and has become something verging on a magic instrument. Capable of capturing the fleeting and the ephemeral\, of freezing light and stopping time\, of making the intimate public\, of telling profound truths and fascinating lies\, of imbuing meaning into the mundane and transforming the precious into the mechanical\, the camera is a collective third eye that has shaped the perceptions of a species. \nArtist Profile: \nFilmmaker\, writer\, and artist Chris Fiore\, born 1959 in Norfolk\, Virginia\, received his BFA from Antioch College in 1984. In the late 80’s he was one of the founders of the Zone\, a artist collective occupying an abandoned warehouse at 104 South 4th St\, in Williamsburg\, Brooklyn. Fiore showed at the East Village’s KOAP gallery in the early 90’s and in 1995 directed the underground documentary Trip and Go Naked\, winner of the Excellence in Sexual Theater award at Arlene’s Grocery Picture Show. He went on to direct the feature documentary Backstage for Miramax\, a behind the scenes look at Jay Z’s Hard Knock Life Tour. The film had a profitable run in theaters and is still occasionally in rotation on the Showtime network 17 years after it was made. Fiore has also directed documentaries on the making of the Victoria’s Secret Christmas Catalog\, the band Paramore\, as well as two prime time specials for Fox Television. His most recent documentary\, Goodwoman\, tells the story of Debra Goodman\, an activist brutally arrested for filming the NYPD. Featured in several film festivals\, Goodwoman won the Grand Jury Award at the 2016 LA Film Invasion film festival. He’s currently directing a documentary and web series on artist Ken Hiratsuka. \nFiore’s first feature film script\, The Utopia Virus\, finished in the top ten of the 2005 Final Draft Big Break screenwriting contest. He also wrote the Wassup Obama ad\, described by Salon.com as one of the most creative of the 2008 presidential campaign and winner of a Cannes Lion. He’s currently working on a series of film treatments for a Beijing based production company. \nFiore’s film work has directly influenced his art over the years\, in his use of appropriated imagery\, presentation of sequential images\, and in the cinematically dynamic composition of his mosaic photography. Fiore is represented by the Ethan Pettit Gallery. \nWebsites: \nchrisfiore.nyc\ngoodwomanmovie.com\nthekenstones.com\nabillionbeautifuldays.com \nArt Resume \nEducation: \nBachelor of Fine Arts\, Antioch College\, Yellow Springs\, Ohio\, 1984. \nOne Person Show \n1991 Space Case Gallery\, P.S. 122: NYC \nGuest Artist: \n2017 Nobuko Tsuruta\, 12 Years\, Tenri Gallery\, NYC \nGroup Shows : \n2015 Spring Salon\, Ethan Pettit Gallery\, Brooklyn \n2015 Morphopolis\, Ethan Pettit Gallery\, Brooklyn \n2007 Sun Pictures to Megapixels\, WAH Art Center\, Brooklyn \n2004 Projekt30 : Juried online group show \n1999 triad: an observation of artist/friendship triangles\, Vibrant Gallery\, NYC \n1999 CG ART\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1997 Trip\, Gallery T.Y.K-Two\, Tokyo\, Japan \n1997 Future in 3D\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1996 Cupid\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1995 Blood in the Heart\, KOAP Gallery\, NYC \n1990 Possible Photography\, Ward Nasse Gallery\, NYC \n1990 Epoche Sex Salon\, Epoche Gallery\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn \n1989 The Gridlock Exhibit\, Minor Injury Gallery\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn \n1988 CyberFunk\, The Zone\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn \n1987 The Zone Show\, The Zone\, Williamsburg\, Brooklyn

SUMMARY:Concert — Shakuhachi and Ichigenkin: Discovery in a Single Tone
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents an afternoon of new and traditional Japanese works performed by the trio Elizabeth Brown and Ralph Samuelson on shakuhachi (vertical bamboo flute) and Issui Minegishi on ichigenkin (one-string koto). With roots in the principles of Zen Buddhism and in spiritual practice\, these traditional Japanese instruments share an underlying aesthetic concept:  the discovery of the world that lies within one note\, one sound. This concert program includes both traditional works and new compositions such as Elizabeth Brown’s 秋廻り来て “autumn comes round again”\, which sets tanka poetry written by survivors of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. \nTickets are $20 through 9/30\, $25 thereafter\, and are available online\, by phone (212-677-8621)\, and at the door. \nIdeally\, this music is heard in a tranquil setting conducive to calm\, focused listening. The ichigenkin’s philosophy of “one string” is a natural partner to the “one note” aesthetic of the shakuhachi\, and while the shakuhachi is becoming more familiar to audiences around the world\, opportunities to hear the ichigenkin are truly rare. Largely through the efforts of Minegishi Issui\, the ichigenkin is gradually finding a new place in contemporary Japan and abroad. This trio of musicians\, two from America and one from Japan\, presents numerous concerts in Japan. Now they are bringing knowledge of these beautiful instruments and their music to an American audience. \nThis concert is part of a 12-stop U.S. tour. This project is supported in part by IMJS: Japanese Cultural Heritage Initiatives and by the Japan Foundation. \n \n\n  \nAbout the Performers \nMinegishi Issui is the 4th Iemoto\, or heir\, of the Seikyo-do Ichigenkin Tradition. The Seikyo-do follows the idea of Zen practice\, which removes all unnecessary vanities. She was trained by her great-grandmother\, the 3rd heiress\, an officially designated Intangible Cultural Treasure of Japan. Minegishi Issui succeeded to the title of 4th Iemoto in 1988\, and was honored as Graduate of the NHK Conservatory of Japanese Traditional Music. She has performed around the world. At her 2008 Kioi Hall concert in Japan\, she was honored with the presence of Her Majesty the Empress of Japan\, Michiko. Minegishi Issui won the bronze prize in the division “1-2 string musical instruments” at Delphic 2009 (The Art and Cultural Olympic Games) in Jeju\, Korea. She received Asian Cultural Council grants in 2010 and in 2013. \nRalph Samuelson\, a performer and teacher of the Japanese bamboo flute\, shakuhachi\, was trained in the classical tradition of the Kinko School of shakuhachi by the late Living National Treasure Goro Yamaguchi as well as by Shudo Yamato and Kodo Araki V\, both in Japan and in the graduate world music program at Wesleyan University. He performs traditional and contemporary music throughout North America\, Asia\, and Europe\, and has recorded for Innova\, CBS Masterworks\, Lyrichord\, Music of the World\, Tzadik\, XI Records\, Pogus\, and other labels. He was shakuhachi soloist in the New York City Ballet production of Jerome Robbins’ “Watermill”\, and his annual “Flutes of Hope” concert\, commemorating the victims of the earthquake/tsunami in Japan\, has been presented in New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. In 2011 and 2013 he was artist in residence at the Lou Harrison House in Joshua Tree\, California. He is an international advisor for the Seoul Institute of the Arts in Korea and is senior advisor and former director of the Asian Cultural Council. \nElizabeth Brown combines a composing career with a diverse performing life\, playing flute\, shakuhachi\, and theremin in a wide variety of musical circles. She is celebrated both here and in Japan for her compositions combining eastern and western sensibilities. A Juilliard graduate and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient\, her music has been heard in Japan\, the Soviet Union\, Colombia\, Australia\, South Africa and Vietnam as well as across the US and Europe. She has received grants\, awards and commissions from Orpheus\, St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble\, Newband\, the Asian Cultural Council\, the Japan/US Friendship Commission\, Meet the Composer\, the Electronic Music Foundation\, the Cary Trust\, and NYFA. She has two solo CDs: Elizabeth Brown: Mirage (New World) and Blue Minor: Chamber Music by Elizabeth Brown (Albany)\, and her music is also available on CRI\, Innova\, and Music and Arts. http://elizabethbrowncomposer.com

SUMMARY:Prayer for Amara: Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for a sound and movement meditation for Amara Williams on Thursday\, Oct 12 from 8 – 9:30 pm. We will gather monthly to remember the divine strength within ourselves and to support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nFollowing a crystal singing bowl meditation (CRS healer Miyoko Satoh) and prayer circle (CRS healer Naoko Ono)\, we’ll whirl together with live percussion by Senko Nishimura and friends. Whirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Aug 17. 50% of the proceeds will support the Williams family. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. As you act as a conduit in the Turn\, the light comes through the right hand\, and the left hand brings it into this world… We turn for God and for the world\, and it is the most beautiful thing you can imagine. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nAbout Lale Sayoko \nLale was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com

SUMMARY:Wim Hof Method One Day Workshop with Hong Noe
DESCRIPTION:Where do you find yourself? \nWhat is before you? \n(i.e.\, your workload\, your finances\, your deadlines\, your relationships\, your health\, etc.) \nHow do you feel? \nDo any of the above trigger any “stressed-out” feelings in you? (anxiety\, fear\, ill-ease\, etc.) \nIf so\, you’ve lost self-control. \nWhen you (me) find yourself responding (emotionally\, psychologically\, physiologically\, etc.) in ways you’d rather not\, you’ve lost self-control. I’m not talking about self-control in the sense of externally self-imposed behaviors (to abide within the laws of society)\, but in how you find yourself feeling (reacting) based on a stimulus of an external circumstance. I’m also not talking about “control” as when in a fear-based (needing & trying to control) internal state. \nIf you\, too often\, find yourself losing self-control (in ways I posed above) by the dictates of external circumstances and situations\, it’s because you’ve had a lot of repetitions practicing those tendencies (for whatever reasons)\, consistent with a neural plasticity saying that goes\, “neurons that fire together\, wire together.” \nApplying WHM as an effective practice toward working on your habitual emotional\, psychological\, and physiological responses to the external stimuli of your everyday life encounters\, I will go into how you can (steadily\, relentlessly) work toward “breaking up and rewiring” your undesired neural patterns (your “goto” responses — psychologically\, emotionally\, and physiologically — that arise whenever things appear uncertain\, unfavorable\, discouraging\, etc.). In other words\, you will begin to actively apply\, practice and work to expand YOUR comfort zone\, toward a stronger & more resilient emotional/psychological constitution. \nBut if you’ve had a lot of practice (repetitions) reinforcing your now-ingrained neural patterns with your thoughts and behaviors\, it’ll require work & awareness from you to start establishing new desired patterns\, to be willing to persevere even during periods without external (visible) positive reinforcements. \nDuring my workshop\, the three pillars of the Wim Hof Method will be explained and explored: mindset/focus\, breathing & cold exposure\, with their ramifications for your health\, both psychological & physiological.\nWe will practice facing & dealing with our stress responses.\nWe will practice facing & dealing with pain & discomfort stimuli & our responses to them.\nWe will practice cultivating an internal space that encourages diminished inner resistances (where positive growth may take “root”).\nWe will practice breathing with attention.\nWe will tie the practices together with discussions on physiology of mind & body. \nADDITIONAL INFO: \nFor who? \nThe course is suitable for beginners\, intermediate & beyond (getting more into the psychological aspects: fears\, anxieties & training our body-mind responses to them\, etc.) within the WHM. \nPreparations: \nAccomplish at least ONE thing you’ve been PROCRASTINATING about (to facilitate you toward getting into a better mindset during the workshop as well as to apply practicing overcoming signals of mental resistance in our everyday lives). \nWe will practice facing & dealing with the pain/discomfort stimuli of ice immersion for the hands & feet. You may find the pain/discomfort quite intense & deep: most unpracticed/unprepared individuals cannot tolerate more than 30~40 seconds of it. I will guide you to face & use it toward expanding YOUR comfort zone. \nWe will not have a full-body ice immersion in this workshop. \nI will still present the full content as my other 1-day workshops. \nClothing\, etc.: \nComfortable clothes\, TOWEL\, sandals\, & MAT for sitting/lying on floor\nFood: \nIt is best to eat lightly.\nPaperwork: \nBring signed liability waiver & health declaration sheets (available with study materials upon registration).

SUMMARY:Concert: International Singer-Songwriter Showcase
DESCRIPTION:CRS and Mar Creation\, Inc. are delighted to present an evening of fantastic female singer-songwriters on Saturday\, Oct 14\, 2017 at 7 pm. LittleStarRun (based in PA and Greece) and Rie Tamuro (from Japan and now based in NY) will play solo and Yuka Yamamoto and her bandmate Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz  of The Fugu Plan (NY\, Israel\, Japan) will perform as a duo. \nConjuring mystery with bewitching vocals and modern sonics\, these island-hopping storytellers set sparkling observations of cultural dislocation to melodies haunting and buoyant. LittleStarRun found her voice among the echoes of ancient Athens and Crete\, and her dreamy songs reflect her explorations there. Rie’s writing also sharply maps the experiences of trading one island for another half-way round the world. Yuka finds inspiration in the vanishing traditions and folklore of medieval Japan and her own Sado Island. \nTickets are $20 and are available online\, by phone (212-677-8621) and at the door. \nRie Tamuro\, a 23-year-old singer / songwriter from Nara\, Japan\, started playing the guitar at the age of 14\, writing songs and performing on the street and at shows. She has more than 150 original songs and has resided in New York since August 2015. Rie has performed at clubs such as Silvana\, the Shrine\, and Bowery Electric in New York City. https://www.facebook.com/tamuro.rie \n\n  \n  \nLittleStarRun is the artist moniker of Northeastern Pennsylvania born musician and singer-songwriter Rachel Lucille Woodworth. Her journey began in 2003 in Athens Greece where a career in circus aerial arts and studies in international theater led her to find her musical voice. She has been creating and performing as LittleStarRun since 2010 and received musical studies at Musical Praxis Conservatory in guitar and music theory. Her music can be described as ethereal indie folk or indie folk dream pop “with comparisons to Jenny Lewis\, Feist\, and Beach House.” In 2015 she had to return to the US after over a decade in Greece to recover from a severe ankle injury which resulted in a debilitating chronic neurological illness. Despite the setback\, in 2016 she released her first single “Wilting” recorded in Athens Greece in the home studio of producer Anthony Georgou with whom she co-produced the track. Her studio recordings reflect her diverse musical influences. “Wilting is a song richly layered in echoey vocals and lush guitars leading the listener on a psychedelic journey through an unconscious underground. The song encapsulates an ethereal parallel universe with LittleStarRun’s poetic phrases\, subtle country folk guitar blended with layers of distortion and a modern greek chorus of her own vocals. Penned while on the island of Crete in Greece\, the song was inspired by a dream and the imagery and journey all take place in the world between asleep and awake. Think Joni Mitchell meets Tame Impala played out in an ancient greek theater.” \nWilting by LittleStarRun \n“I think my music is about traveling\, whether it be physical travel\, or mental\, or astral… I want to show people new worlds that I see and sensations I experience. ” — LittleStarRun \nShe has contributed and composed songs for theater productions in her native Scranton. She has contributed backing vocals to Pennsylvania indie psychedelic rock band Brian TV’s 2014 record\, Brian TV Quits. LittleStarRun’s debut album is currently being recorded and due out in late 2017. \n  \nYuka Yamamoto is a Japanese singer song writer\, from Sado Island\, Japan and now lives in NYC. The Fugu Plan is fronted by Yuka\, a Japanese singer and composer from Sado Island\, a place of banishment for difficult or inconvenient Japanese figures starting in the 8th century. The Fugu Plan’s MukashiBanashi is based on the secret customs and ancient folktales of Japan\, exploring traditions of ritual\, tribal\, and spiritual music\, which pays tribute to the island’s preservation of the traditions of old Japan through ceremony\, art\, music and magic\, while incorporating a mixed bag of musical influences including Ennio Morricone’s film music\, psychedelic rock and free improvisation. https://thefuguplan.bandcamp.com/ \n\n  \nShanir Ezra Blumenkranz is an American bassist and oud player who has recorded and performed with John Zorn\, Bill Laswell\, Ravi Coltrane\, Fred Sherry\, Satoshi Takeshi\, Hank Roberts\, Sabir Mateen\, Roy Campbell Jr.\, Tony Malaby\, Will Connell\, Jon Madof\, Daniel Zamir\, Jenny Scheinman\, Daniel Kelly\, Eyal Maoz\, Avishai Cohen\, George Garzone\, Okkyung Lee\, Brad Shepik\, William Winant\, Jim Puglesie\, Jim Black\, Jamie Saft\, Anthony Coleman\, Mark Dresser\, Charlie Burnham\, Sonny Simmons\, Ned Rothenberg\, Marty Ehrlich\, Trevor Dunn\, Sylvie Courvoisier\, Susie Ibarra\,Tyshawn Sorey\, Min Xiao-Fen\, Michiyo Yagi\, Kazu Uchihashi\, Makigami Koichi\, Kazutoki Umezu\, Cyro Baptista\, Marc Ribot\, Kenny Wollesen\, Joey Baron\, Anton Fier\, Eric Friedlander\, Mark Feldman\, Roberto Rodriguez\, Louie Belogenis\, Ikue Mori\, and many more!

SUMMARY:Fall into Music: Music & Meditation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Autumn can be a powerful season of self reflection. As the leaves change we begin to welcome change and growth within ourselves as well. As the days and nights become the same length\, we seek to restore balance in our own lives. As we let go of summer and begin to accept the inevitability of winter we may also choose to let go of our own insecurities in favor of self- acceptance. It is with a nonjudgmental and mindful attitude that we are able to embrace the changing of the leaves and the season and allow a change in ourselves as well. \nVoices in Flow’s Meditation and Music Workshop explores a unique format designed for all people who share a love for music. Through simple and fun exercises\, we guide you to explore your voice and discover creative expression through music\, sound\, and improvisation. We combine mindful meditation practices which allow you to embrace a nonjudgmental state of mind\, which allows for self-reflection as well as creative expression. \nPumpkin Spice Lattes & leggings optional.

SUMMARY:Action Theater Improv Performance
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents an evening of Action Theater Improvisation by former CRS teachers and longtime performance collaborators Heather Harpham and Cassie Tunick. Their improvisations play in a highly physical realm and incorporate vocalization and speech to conjure surreal yet utterly immediate worlds. Evoking humor and pathos\, Harpham and Tunick masterfully explore human experience through relationship and metaphoric image. \nThe performance will take place on Saturday\, October 21\, 2017 at 7:30 pm in the CRS Studio. Tickets are $20 and are available online\, by phone (212-677-8621) and at CRS. There will be no late seating at this performance. \nAction Theater is a training system in physical theater improvisation that builds vocal\, verbal\, and physical performance skills\, hones awareness and increases expressive range. Created by Ruth Zaporah\, Action Theater uses embodied presence as a doorway into the agility of a vast imagination\, the inhabiting of mercurial energies\, and a way of relaxing into the active nature of time and change with eloquence\, precision\, and passion.  http://www.actiontheater.com. \nHeather Harpham has written six solo plays\, including Happiness and BURNING which toured nationally. Her fiction\, essays and reviews have appeared in Slate\, Parents\, MORE Magazine and Water~Stone Review. Harpham is the recipient of the Brenda Ueland Prose Prize\, a Marin Arts Council Independent Artist Grant and a grant from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund for Women. She has taught as a guest artist in physical theater and solo performance in colleges and universities throughout the US and currently teaches at SUNY Purchase. In August of 2017\, Holt released her memoir\, Happiness. It has been Heather’s joy to improvise with Cassie since they were ten. http://heatherharpham.com \nCassie Tunick is a performer\, writer\, and teacher. Her physical theater works have played on stages across the U.S. and abroad. She is a Senior Teacher of Action Theater\, co-founder of the company Second Nature (with Danny Tunick and Heather Harpham)\, and currently teaches at Emerson College. Collaborations: film work with David Finkelstein (Suggestive Gestures); experimental music and performance with Keren Rosenbaum; and dance theater works with Abby Bender.  An ongoing fascination with the nature of being continues within the daily body as a vehicle for the mind and imagination to express itself visibly. http://www.cassieterman.com \nDanny Tunick is a veteran of an array of musical scenes in New York City and beyond. From many varieties of rock (Jowe Head\, Dan Kaufman’s Euro-literary-underground band Barbez\, Rebecca Moore’s Prevention of Blindness\, New Zealand cult legends The Clean) to classical (he has conducted music by Pierre Boulez\, Charles Wuorinen\, and Sam Hillmer\, among others\, and performed in countless premieres as percussionist)\, to music falling between any convenient category (Alvin Lucier\, Arnold Dreyblatt’s Orchestra of Excited Strings\, Elliott Sharp’s Orchestra Carbon\, Christian Dautreme’s indescribable Sugarlife\, the pagan Civil War rituals of Flaming Fire\, David First’s The Western Enisphere). He has worked closely with many dance/theater companies\, including Juliette Mapp\, Armitage Gone! Dance\, John Jesurun and Rinde Eckert. His performances can be heard on over 30 record labels.

SUMMARY:The Path of Mastery & Discovering Your Life’s Purpose
DESCRIPTION:All of us want a life with meaning\, yet many times we struggle to find the purpose behind why we were born. Circumstances block us\, finances limit us\, and we get stuck in the day to day struggle of the system. Yet embedded within the often dysfunctional history of our childhoods\, are many important clues that point us towards our true mission. Discovering these clues and what they mean is part of the Path of Mastery. This Path reveals how the early wounding in our various live circumstances can help us to discover the real reason that we incarnated in our particular family of origin. Why did we pick those parents? That country? This race? That economic condition? What were we and our Spirit Guides planning before we ever came into this world? Understanding this link between our life challenges and our life purpose\, is fundamental to claiming the power within.
One can even think of this as the “Karmic-Dharma Arc” – the Path of Mastery that allows us to truly understand our deeper purpose\, and find our life’s work.\n\nFor example\, a mother whose child is killed by a drunk driver might decide to start MADD\, Mothers Against Drunk Driving; the child whose parent dies of illness decides to become a doctor or naturopath; the girl who gets pregnant in high school grows up to become a therapist for teenage suicides; the boy who loses his legs in war\, becomes a Pulitzer Prize winner\, inspiring others to overcome all obstacles.\nThis powerful workshop takes you on a journey into the breathtaking realms of Heaven to discover the Origins of your Soul\, your true purpose in life\, and the Genesis Matrix of every Soul. SUMMARY:Four Seasons in NY: Gems of Japanese Music
DESCRIPTION:CRS & Mar Creation\, Inc. invite you to discover traditional Japanese music by the acclaimed koto and shamisen player Yoko Reikano Kimura\, offered together with an exclusive taste of beautiful Japanese seasonal sweets prepared by Rin NYC. The next concert will take place on Sunday\, November 5\, 2017 at 4 pm at CRS. Tickets are $25 and include delicious wagashi (sweets). Seating is limited and advanced purchased (online\, by phone 212-677-8621\, or in person at CRS) is encouraged. \n“…Yoko Reikano Kimura\, playing the shamisen and singing\, is superb….” — New York Times \n“…Kimura’s performance on the solo shamisen was quite stunning. An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nAfter many centuries\, the brilliance of traditional Japanese music is still being passed on to the present day. Come and experience the sounds of koto and shamisen and enjoy the taste of the four seasons here in New York. This concert series will feature each season’s representative traditional works along with the colorful and delicate Japanese style confectionaries. \nThis will be the first concert of Volume 3 of this seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music. The subsequent concerts in this season are planned for Jan 19 at 7 pm (followed by a special tea ceremony by Souheki Mori of Setsugekka by Tea Whisk) and April 1 and Aug 12 at 4 pm. \n\nEach season is expressed through ingredients. Spring traditionally begins with sakura (cherry blossoms)\, broccoli rabe\, strawberries and raspberries\, followed by elderflower\, rose\, edamame and sansho (Japanese pepper) in summer. As autumn approaches we’ll pick chrysanthemum\, apples\, grapes\, chestnuts and hazelnuts; and yuzu and kumquats in winter…. Even within one season\, the taste and the form change gradually from hashiri through nagori. \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY. \nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \n  \n  \nMore about Yoko Reikano Kimura \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces. Yoko has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the prestigious 10th Kenjun Memorial National Koto Competition as the first Yamada style koto performer. She received the First Prize at the 4th Great Wall International Music Competition and the Osaka Chinese Counsel Award and won the Japanese music audition for NHK-FM radio and her solo shamisen performance was broadcasted nationally. Since then she has performed numerous koto and shamisen pieces for the radio and regularly toured internationally. \nSince Yoko moved to the US in 2010\, her mission has been to promote Japanese music to American audiences. As part of this mission she is performing and giving workshops at various venues\, such as the UN\, Merkin\, Bargemusic\, Roulette\, Princeton University\, Japan Society\, Harvard University\, Princeton University\, the New England Conservatory\, the University of Chicago\, Duke University and many others. http://www.yamadaryu.com/reikano/ \nAs part of the award-winning Duo Yumeno\, she has  released the album Flowers\, Birds\, Wind\, Moon:  The Music of Marty Regan. SUMMARY:Film Screening: Shorts by Chris Fiore — POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed. We will announce the new date soon! \nCRS presents an evening of short films and video by Chris Fiore in conjunction with the exhibition of his photographs currently on view. The program will include a Q&A with the filmmaker. Admission is free. \nThe program features Fiore’s short film “A(de)scent\,” which recounts a designer’s glorious and disastrous debut at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. The evening will also feature the World Premiere of at least one episode of Fiore’s new web series “The Ken Stones\,” following artist Ken Hiratsuka in his attempt to carve a sculpture in every country on Earth. \nTrailer for “The Ken Stones”:\n \nAbout Director Chris Fiore \nFilmmaker\, writer\, and artist Chris Fiore\, born 1959 in Norfolk\, Virginia\, received his BFA from Antioch College in 1984. \nFiore’s first feature film script\, The Utopia Virus\, was a finalist in the Final Draft Big Break Competition\, garnering him representation and a Hollywood roller coaster ride as the directors Darron Aronofsky\, Tony Scott\, and Renny Harlin considered making the film. \nhttp://chrisfiore.com\nhttp://pairofpictures.tumblr.com\nhttp://metaedit.tumblr.com

SUMMARY:INCA COSMOS VISION AND INCA WISDOM WITH JORGE LUIS DELGADO\, A PROMINENT PERUVIAN SHAMAN.
DESCRIPTION:Jorge Luis Delgado is the Andean shaman\, healer\, mystic\, and author. He was born in the highlands near Lake Titicaca\, Peru and of Aymara Incan heritage.\nAs an indigenous Incan with a brilliant mind\, he is able to express the knowledge and experiences of his spiritual heritage in practical terms that are as alive and viable in today’s modern cities\, as they were in the ancient mountaintop city of Machu Picchu. \nIn the Inca tradition\, there is no separation between the physical and spiritual worlds. Jorge is expert at walking the path between both worlds.\nHe mentioned we live in extraordinary time. In Peru\, descendants of the Inca called this time the Pachakuti\, “the return to the Essence of the Cosmos” after 500 years of darkness. Peru is said to be the ‘morning of the new sun’ – the portal through which rays of the new light will begin to awaken humanity to a new consciousness.\nAnd in this new day\, we are awakening. Some had flashlights and awoke before the sunrise. Others are rising at its first rays. Still\, others will need a strong cup of coffee to get there. Whatever the pace\, everyone will eventually be awakened in this cycle. He is known around the world as he is also respected by the Andean priests and indigenous people of the region. His knowledge spans the culture\, the traditions\, and the spiritual heritage of his vibrant Inca world. Any encounter with Jorge Luis Delgado is a heart-expanding journey.\nHe has a vast collection of antique textiles and artifacts\, which he is currently being or ganized and displayed in a museum at Taypikala Hotel\, Cusco. He has hosted and remained in contact with people like Don Miguel Ruiz (author of ‘Four Agreements’)\, Bo Bingham (grandson of Hiram Bingham who discovered Machu Picchu)\, and David Childress (author of the Lost Cities Series). Jorge Luis was featured on the BBC television in the series called Everyman. \nHe is the author of the highly acclaimed book\, “Andean Awakening: An Incan Guide to Mystic Peru”\, published in the USA.\nHis new book\, “Sabiduría Inca” (Inka Wisdom) was translated into English. It will be published in the USA soon. \nPlease click on the link below to register for this prepaid event. On the page\, go to the calendar to pick the right date.\nhttps://www.meetup.com/Circle-of-Friendship-with-Jorge-Luis-Delgado-Meetup/ \nPayment is due by October 20th\, 2017.\nContact us anytime by email if you have questions regarding this information or the event at MeditationNY@yahoo.com \n

SUMMARY:Prayer for Amara: Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for a sound and movement meditation for Amara Williams on Thursday\, Nov 16 from 8 – 9:45 pm. \nThis month\, our sound healers Senko and Miyoko are away and Sayoko will join us late\, so musician Saco Yasuma and CRS Healer Christopher Pelham will lead us through the opening hour of sound meditation and guided meditation and whirling practice. Please feel free to bring your frame drum\, rattle\, whistle\, chimes\, or other instrument. You don’t need to be experienced. Together\, we will learn to listen to one another and express ourselves and find Oneness of intention. \nWhirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Nov 16. 50% of the proceeds will support the Williams family.
