SUMMARY:AdHoc Winter Concert — 12/7
DESCRIPTION:AdHoc Winter Concert\nDate: Time December 7th\, 2014 from 7 pm\nLocation: CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) \n               123 4th Ave (between 12th & 13th St) 2nd Floor\, New York\, NY10003\nMore info: hello@adhoc-ny.com\nTickets (RSVP): http://adhoc-winter2014.brownpapertickets.com\nWebsite: http://adhoc-ny.com\n \nWHO WE ARE\n \nAdHoc is a vibrant\, growing ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists based in New York City.  We’re inspired primarily by early music\, but we also believe that tradition can be played with.  We perform about half of our pieces off the score\, as the composer intended. The rest is experimental–our “ad hoc” repertoire.  Always looking for fresh ways to fuse new and old\, we might explore how an oratorio would sound when reduced to a solo voice and guitar\, or how an Italian aria could be reworked in a jazz setting.  The composition of our ensemble is just as dynamic as our sound.  While our foundation is a core group of dedicated residents\, we’re constantly seeking other NYC musicians to collaborate with us as guests on individual projects.  The result: a mashup of genres\, sounds\, and influences as fluid and eclectic as the city where we live and perform. \n \nWHAT WE DO\n \nAn AdHoc concert is a relaxed\, intimate gathering that brings people together to share food\, drink\, conversation\, and music.  It’s a “salon” without the stuffiness.  Our events are all about community–the floor is our stage\, with little space between performer and audience. On December 7th\, we’re thrilled to be hosting our first holiday soiree.  We’ll provide the delicious treats\, warming beverages\, and a musical intermission of festive tunes\, from madrigals and traditional carols to flamenco and jazz.  You bring your friends\, appetite\, and open ears.\n \nDecember 201477 pm

SUMMARY:Inner Vision Workout Using Principles of A Course in Miracles — Winter 2015
DESCRIPTION:We’ll meditate and practice asking for and receiving guidance from our inner teacher and we’ll practice spiritual reading of one another. If you’ve yet to attend\, it’s still perfectly perfect to show up! 🙂\nThink of this as a gym — or better yet a playground — for the spirit! We’ll use guided meditation\, creative visualization and improv games to practice being present\, to access our limitless imaginations and intuitive abilities\, and to align our thoughts and actions with the voice of unconditional love. After each exercise we’ll take time to discuss the experience and discover what we can learn and how it might apply to situations in daily life.\nPhilosophically\, we’ll be drawing on principles of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) as well as the teachings of Shakti Gawain\, Eckhart Tolle\, Barry Neil Kaufman\, Keith Johnstone\, and others. Familiarity with the Course or experience with meditation or improvisation is not required. All that is required is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore and play!\nStudents of the Course will appreciate this class as a lab for developing our ability to dialog with the Holy Spirit (the Course’s name for the inner voice or teacher who also speaks from the point of view of the thought system that recognizes that only love exists). That said\, familiarity with the Course is not required. Believing in “God” or familiarity with the concept of an “inner voice” is not even required. All that is required is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore and play.\nInstructor Christopher Pelham is the Director and a co-founder of CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing). He balances his time between overseeing the growth and health of the CRS community\, producing arts/cultural/educational events at the Center\, and working as a CRS Healer and student and teacher of A Course in Miracles. He has previously also worked in educational publishing and as a web designer\, writer/editor\, actor (most notably for several seasons with Doris Duke Impact Award Winner Johnny Simons at the Hip Pocket Theatre in Ft. Worth\, TX and with artists Richard Bach\, Harold Lehmann\, and Lake Simons in NYC)\, producer and videographer. He graduated from Duke University in 1991 with a degree in English. In addition to studying ACIM off and on with Yasuko Kasaki since 2003\, he studied the Spiritual Psychology of Acting with London-based teacher John Osborne Hughes and Jay Johnstone-based Improvisation with the late Gloria Maddox.\n \nRead more\nJan 8 – April 9\, 2015Thursdays7 – 8:30 pm

SUMMARY:Spirituality & Social Change Meetup: IT'S EVERYBODY'S OCEAN film screening — 1/24/15
DESCRIPTION:IT’S EVERYBODY’S OCEAN (documentary)\, 2014\ndirected by Atsuko Quirk\nUSA/Japan\, 40′\, Japanese subtitles over English & English subtitles or Japanese dialog\nShowtime: Saturday\, Jan 24\, 2015 at 6 pm\nSOLD OUT!\nPlease join us for a reception & community screening of the new documentary “It’s Everybody’s Ocean” (40′) about the consequences of out-of-control consumption and one island community’s efforts to stay afloat amongst the mounting garbage. Director Astuko Quirk will be on hand to lead a Q&A and announce her next project\, documenting the re-forestatation of Tohoku. A suggested donation of $10 will support the film.\n \nIt’s everybody’s ocean\,\nit’s everybody’s problem.\nThis documentary tells a story of how marine debris is affecting the people of Ikema\, a tiny and beautiful island of the Miyako Islands\, known for its stunning coral reefs. The island’s once pristine beaches now play host to tons of plastic marine debris\, originating from all over Asia\, polluting their beaches\, and threatening the lives of marine species. This is the story of a small island struggle with plastic pollution. \nThe people of Ikema are committed to keeping the beaches clean and free from marine debris. They do this to prevent trash from going back into the ocean after storms\, and to preserve tourism. But most importantly\, they do this because of their spiritual commitment to the island. People on Ikema have been praying to nature gods for over 500 years. They still have a deep respect for the ocean as one of their nature gods. \n“It’s Everybody’s Ocean” won the best documentary short at NYC International Film Festival in 2014 and two awards at other festivals. It has been shown in 10 cities all over the world.\nWatch the trailer:\n  \nIt’s Everybody’s Ocean – Trailer みんなの海だから 予告編 from Atsuko Quirk on Vimeo. \n \nLearn moreWatch trailerAtsuko Quirk’s web site\n \nJanuary 201524 6 pm

SUMMARY:Spirituality & Social Change Meetup: IT'S EVERYBODY'S OCEAN film screening — 2/28/15
DESCRIPTION:IT’S EVERYBODY’S OCEAN (documentary)\, 2014\ndirected by Atsuko Quirk\nUSA/Japan\, 40′\, Japanese subtitles over English & English subtitles over Japanese dialog\nShowtime: Saturday\, Feb 28\, 2015 at 4:30 pm\nSuggested donation $10. Reserve tickets here or call 212-677-8621. Tickets will also be available at the door if not sold out.\nPlease join us for a reception & community screening of the new documentary “It’s Everybody’s Ocean” (40′) about the consequences of out-of-control consumption and one island community’s efforts to stay afloat amongst the mounting garbage. Afterward\, we’ll talk with the film’s director\, Atsuko Quirk (Media Producer for Cafeteria Culture and board member of Fifth Street Farm Project)\, about the film and her experiences in bringing people together to reduce waste and create climate-smart communities. A suggested donation of $10 will support the film’s distribution.\n \nIt’s everybody’s ocean\,\nit’s everybody’s problem.\nThis documentary tells a story of how marine debris is affecting the people of Ikema\, a tiny and beautiful island of the Miyako Islands\, known for its stunning coral reefs. \n \nLearn moreWatch trailerAtsuko Quirk’s web site\nAbout the Spirituality & Social Change Meetup Group\nOur intention is to bring together people at the nexus of consciousness-raising\, social entrepreneurship and social change to network and to spotlight individuals\, projects\, movements\, NGO’s\, and for-good companies that are extending love and creativity into the world in ways that inspire others to do the same. We will attempt to bring a spiritual perspective to themes such as environmentalism\, sustainability\, human rights\, economic justice and women’s empowerment. From the point of view of spirit\, “nothing real can be threatened” [A Course in Miracles]. From this perspective\, it is madness to try to change anyone or anything; however\, this conclusion hardly precludes action! Once freed from the need to change ourselves or others\, we can devote all our thoughts to sharing our love and creativity\, and there are an infinite variety of ways we can be kind and helpful to one another. In fact\, it is only through sharing our inner creativity and unconditional love that we remember and realize our limitlessness.\nTo this end we envision hosting documentary film screenings\, mixers\, lectures\, fundraisers\, panel discussions\, Q&As\, and\, perhaps later\, organizing and/or participating in various social good projects. We value diversity and inclusivity and invite you to share your voice with the community.\nhttp://www.meetup.com/Spirituality-Social-Change-Meetup/\n \nFebruary 201528 4:30 pm

SUMMARY:SR Socially Relevant Film Festival Panel Discussion: A Dialogue on the Potential of Art as a Revolutionary Tool — 3/22/15
DESCRIPTION:CRS and the SR — Socially Relevant Film Festival NY 2015 invite you to the Festival closing night panel disucssion on art as revolutionary tool. This panel is free and open to the public.\nFilms are not distractions; they are documents\, testaments\, instruments of progress. How can festivals and filmmakers work together to not just talk about issues\, but to do something about them? We will consider the conscious and unconscious limitations placed on the making and consumption of art\, and then we will discuss tactics and strategies that allow us to circumvent these limitations or transform them into opportunities. How have the arts in revolutionary times been used as a tool for education\, organization and action? What can art do that nothing else can? We will trace the history of art as a utilitarian social practice up to the modern moment – up to the last panel of the Socially Relevant Film Festival — and ask: “what next?” \nPANELISTS:\nAdam Kritzer\, Moderator – A writer\, filmmaker and educator currently in post-production on his first feature\, “Good Funk”.  \nJessica Vale\, Panelist – A filmmaker whose first documentary\, “Small Small Thing”\, won awards at the 2014 Socially Relevant Film Festival and screened on Al Jazeera \nCherrell Brown\, Panelist – A community and national organizer with Equal Justice\, USA\nSean Starowitz\, Panelist – A Kansas City-based multi-hyphenate artist whose work is executed in a variety of social\, political and community engaged contexts. \nDarius Clark Monroe\, Panelist – A filmmaker whose first documentary\, “Evolution of a Criminal”\, received a theatrical release and screened on PBS.\n \nSR SOCIALLY RELEVANT FILM FESTIVAL 2nd Edition showcases a broader slate of issue-oriented films. The Festival’s timely and socially engaging selection offers World and U.S. premieres\, tributes and industry panels from March 16-22. DESCRIPTION:The ancient Egyptians were extremely spiritual\, and at the core of their highly-developed and successful society were their Gods and Goddesses. They’ll also be at the core of our class\, where we’ll explore the deities and their specific roles\, before discussing the concepts of monotheism and polytheism. It was said that each deity ruled a specific energy in a person’s life and we’ll discover how the ancient Priests and Priestesses governed the lives of the Egyptians at a time when pleasing and obeying the Gods was thought to ensure health\, wealth and prosperity. So strongly-held was this belief that even the Pharaohs strived to elevate themselves to that of a God in life and in death. This led to the ancient Priests developing a sophisticated system of categorizing the Gods known as the Tree of Life or Paut Neteru. You will walk away from this class with an understanding of Egypt’s most prominent Gods Maat\, Tehuti\, Heru\, Auset and Asuar\, and the knowledge of how you can tune into their power to help you achieve the success in your life that the Ancient Egyptians spent their lives striving for. \nwww.projectilluminated.com\n \nwww.projectilluminatedmeetup.com\nApril 2015237:30 pm – 10 pm

SUMMARY:How To Use Oracles To Guide Your Life — 4/16/2015
DESCRIPTION:Throughout history ancient man and woman have turned to Oracles to uncover the secrets of the universe.  However\, many in our modern world have painted the use of Oracles such as the Tarot\, I-Ching\, Ifa and Runes as sinister or deserving of scorn.  History shows us that Oracles were used by many Kings and Queens as a means to communicate with God.  Through ancient priests\, who would serve as diviners\, people would seek guidance from the Oracles on issues of love\, money\, politics and life in general. The answers they received were widely accurate which lead to their ever-increasing popularity.  In fact\, Oracles would predict the destiny of many peoples and the fates of nations. But because these devices were so powerful a campaign was waged to discredit them so that unscrupulous priests could gain control and power.  This essentially stole the Oracles from the common person\, removing the power from them and placing it into the institution of the Church as the final say of what is right.  What we witness today is how the masses are as slaves to the Church with no individual guidance directly from the creator.  In this class you will learn why Oracles are important\, how to use them\, and witness first-hand how God can speak through them and directly to you.\nwww.projectilluminated.com\nwww.projectilluminatedmeetup.com\n \n \nwww.projectilluminated.com\n \nwww.projectilluminatedmeetup.com \nApril 2015167 pm – 10 pm

SUMMARY:How To Find Your Soul Mate — 4/26/2015
DESCRIPTION:We are all looking for love.  In our age of social media you would think it would be easier to find the right partner\, yet it has become more complex.  In this class we will examine the variety of ways people can meet\, date\, and form lasting and loving relationships.  We’ll start by providing tips and tricks to using dating websites\, which have become increasingly prominent and easily accessible.  Then we’ll look at techniques for getting to know someone in traditional social venues such as bars and clubs.  We’ll then turn our attention to finding the right person for you through your current social circles and discuss ideas about how to expand our circles of friends and interests.  Of course\, we mustn’t forget the warning signs you need to look out for which will save you time and heartache.  But meeting and dating are just the beginning- it’s important to understand what relationships are\, different types of relationships\, and how you can form a spiritual bond that will last a lifetime.  We’ll cut through all the erroneous concepts surrounding relationships that are normalized by the media- which is based on materialism and profit\, not love and humanity! SUMMARY:Exhibition: Rhythm of Color by Brian Potter – Opening 4/25/15
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Rhythm of Color\,” an exhibition of paintings by Brian Potter. In this series of paintings\, Mr. Potter uses lines and planes of color\, usually very chromatic\, in rhythmic combinations. Sometimes these planes overlap\, creating a sense of implied depth and mystery. Generally\, the colors pulsate foward\, generating a playful energy. There is a balance struck between the emotional content of color association\, and the intellectual qualities of hard edge painting.\nAn Opening Reception with the artist will take place on Saturday\, April 25\, 2015 from 6 – 8 pm. The exhibition will remain on display through the end of May.\nDuring the opening reception\, from 6:30 – 7 pm\, there will be a live art happening organized by CRS Gallery Director Rie Nishimura and painter Robin Ann Meyer. The event celebrates the somatic nature of painting\, allowing the audience to experience the roles that kinetic energy and physical abilities/limitations play in the creative process. Moving dynamically around a large shared canvas\, Ms. Nishimura will paint with her bare hands while Ms. Meyer will paint holding her brush with her feet.\nArtist Statement\nI see abstract art as having almost limitless possibilities—and my plan is to explore these possibilities as thoroughly as possible. While it is usual for most artists to find a style and then refine it through variations\, I hope to reference or create as many abstract styles as possible—in order to create a strong coherent range. To me this has something to do with the essence of abstraction—to distill essences as the basis for imagery and to experiment with these essential qualities in different combinations; the results can lead down different paths\, and one of my challenges is integrating these paths wherever possible. In time\, through experience along these lines\, I hope to invent much new imagery and expand upon my ideas. Ideas are very important to me.  Once I establish an idea in a painting\, I try to move forward and build on this idea—perhaps adding more ideas or shifting along dimensional lines. This allows my painting to evolve organically and spontaneously. I prefer this\, rather than following a plan from beginning to end.\nUltimately\, I hope to tell my story of abstract visual thought\, which explores ideas and their expression. Some of the issues explored are: structure\, shape\, space\, design\, proportion\, color\, texture\, sensuality\, and paint itself. I have had many exhibitions in shows\, galleries\, and museums\, across the United States. \nGalleries\n2015 The Global Art Company\n2015 Vam Art Gallery\, Metuchen\, N.J.\n2014-15 The Gallery Hotel\, Greenport\, N.Y.\n2013-15 The John Raimondi Gallery\, Palm Beach Gardens\, Fla.\n2013-15 Artsicle\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2012 Ventana Fine Art Gallery\, Santa Fe\, N.M.\n2012 Total Arts Gallery\, Taos\, N.M.\n2012 Wortartist Gallery\n2012 Abstract Artist Gallery\n2008 Klaudia Marr Gallery\, Sante Fe\, N.M.\n2007 McClary Gallery\, Santa Fe\, N.M.\n2006 Headquarters Gallery\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2006 Fuse Gallery Juxtapose Magazine N.Y.C.\, Competition Winner\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2006 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts juried Exhibition\, PA\n2004 Organization of Independent Artists\, juried exhibition\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2004 Tatistcheff Gallery\, Chelsea\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2003 Limner Art Gallery\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2002 Limner Art Gallery\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2001 Principle Art Gallery\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n1994 Cork Gallery\, Lincoln Center\, N.Y.\,N.Y.\n1992-1993 Texas Art Gallery\, Dallas\, TX.\n1992 Texas Art Gallery\, Spring Auction\, Dallas\, TX.\n1990 Vassar College Art Gallery\, Poughkeepsie\, N.Y.\n \nMuseums\n2015 Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center\, Pueblo\, CO.\n2000 National Academy of Design\, 175th Annual Exhibition\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\nShows\n2015 Center for Remembering and Sharing\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2015 Dive Tavern\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2014 Greenpoint Gallery Annual Drawing Salon Show\, Greenpoint\, N.Y.\n2013 Gensler Potrait Exhibition\, N.Y.\, N.Y.\n2013 Summer! SUMMARY:Circle — Moon & Sun: Live Painting by Robin Ann Meyer & Rie Nishimura — 4/25/15
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invites you to Circle — Moon & Sun\, a live art happening organized by CRS Gallery Director Rie Nishimura and painter Robin Ann Meyer. The event celebrates the somatic nature of painting\, allowing the audience to experience the roles that kinetic energy and physical abilities/limitations play in the creative process. Moving dynamically around a large shared canvas\, Ms. Nishimura will paint with her bare hands while Ms. Meyer will paint holding her brush with her feet.\nThe performance will take place on Saturday\, April 25\, 2015 from 6:30 – 7 pm and will be followed by a wine reception with the artists.\nAbout Robin Ann Meyer\nI was a terrible child. I could never sit still – except when I was placed at my art table with the necessary supplies. I became completely transfixed with the bright colors and shapes that would unfold. I think about my work constantly. Like a cloud passing through the sky\, my paintings pass through my mind. There is a lot of trust involved in the way I create. If it feels right\, I go with it. Acceptance is big part of my process. In the abstract\, the artist is left completely on their own. Decisons are internal. I know a painting is done by a feeling I can’t entirely explain. I use enamel because of its liquidity. The drips and streaks act as an extension of myself in the moments I have no control. My current work is all about the human condition. How does it feel to be passing through this life – confined as a consciousness to this particular form? What can I discover about this space? Where can we go with it? What are we really/truly capable of at this point in our development?\nAbout Rie Nishimura\nBorn in Tokyo\, Rie graduated from the Department of Spatial Design\, Musashino Art University. She worked as an art director and a graphic\ndesigner in Tokyo for over 10 years before moving to New York in 2008. In 2010\, she started performing as a performance artist\, merging dancing and painting concurrently at various events and shows in New York. Her performance creates a unique atmosphere\, allowing her to share time\, space\, and experience with the audience.\nrienishimura.com robinannmeyer.com\n \nApril 201525 6 – 8 pm

DESCRIPTION:CRS is honored to present a brief exhibition of works by Yasuka Matsumoto of Japan from April 17 – 20\, 2015. That process can be said to concentrate a large forest into small metallic objects. These objects carry the memory of having existed as trees in the forest. When a metal object closes its eyes\, it see images and remembers the memory of this past it carries within. The object misses living in the forest and eventually returns there as it rusts and is scattered and carried back to the soil and is finally re-absorbed by the trees and other vegetation.\nProfile of Yasuka Matsumoto\nI studied sculpture at Tama Art University and experienced using various materials. I was fascinated by the beauty of the original state of each material. Since every material is perfect as it is\, I always wanted to use materials in their original condition. Since then\, when I create my artwork\, I always cherish the original condition of materials and try to be guided by the ways that they are already being transformed by nature and traditional human-directed processes. It is my hope that you will be able to enjoy the objects that I exhibit as both raw materials\, interesting for their own inherent natural properties\, and as works carefully shaped by an artist to draw attention to certain processes and ideas\, to provoke various questions and to enrich the experience of sharing space and time with the object and its journey.\nYasuka Matsumoto graduated from Tama Art University in 2009. This is her first exhibition in New York. She has participated in the following group exhibitions in Japan:\n2011 Art Festival at Tama Art University\n2010 Art Festival at Tama Art University\n2010 Wooden Sculpture Class Exhibition at Tama Art University\n2009 Tama Art University Sculpture Exhibition\n2007 Graduation Show at Hachioji High School Art Course Specialization \n \nApril 201517 – 20all day
