SUMMARY:Occupation 101 film screening — 8/22/14
DESCRIPTION:OCCUPATION 101 (documentary)\, 2006\ndirected by Sufyan Omeish and Abdallah Omeish\nnarrated by Alison Weir\, founder of If Americans Knew\nUSA\, 90 minutes\, English\nShowtimes: Friday\, Aug 22\, 2014 at 7 pm\nTickets are $10.\nCRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invites you to screen and discuss OCCUPATION 101\, a multi-award-winning documentary film about the current and historical root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Unlike any other film ever produced on the conflict\, OCCUPATION 101 presents a comprehensive analysis of the facts and hidden truths surrounding the never ending controversy and dispels many of its long-perceived myths and misconceptions.\nThe film details life under Israeli military rule\, the role of the United States in the conflict\, and the major obstacles that stand in the way of a lasting and viable peace. The roots of the conflict are explained through first-hand on-the-ground experiences from leading Middle East scholars\, peace activists\, journalists\, religious leaders and humanitarian workers\, many of them Jewish\, whose voices have too often been suppressed in American media outlets (see complete list below).\nCRS is not on one side or against anyone. Our Center exists to create events and experiences wherein we can together remember that we are all the same\, deserving of only love\, able to give and receive only love\, regardless of what our perceptions may show us. This is easier to do when we take time to really see and understand one another\, and it is essential to do so whenever we perceive conflict. We have decided to show this particular film not to tell anyone what to think but rather to facilitate conversation and understanding and promote unity and peace. Many Jewish\, Israeli\, Palestinian and American-based Middle East scholars\, peace activists\, journalists\, religious leaders and humanitarian workers share first-hand on-the-ground experiences and explanations about the roots of the conflict so it is our hope that this film can be a reasonable starting point for further study and conversation. Please feel comfortable and welcome to offer constructive criticism and share any concerns you may have during the Q&A following the screening. We will do our best to establish an environment of openness\, inclusiveness\, respect and love.\nTopics covered include the first wave of Jewish immigration from Europe in the 1880’s\, the 1920 tensions\, the 1948 war\, the 1967 war\, the first Intifada of 1987\, the Oslo Peace Process\, Settlement expansion\, the role of the United States Government\, the second Intifada of 2000\, the separation barrier and the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza\, as well as many heart wrenching testimonials from victims of this tragedy.\nWatch the trailer:\n  \n \nOccupation 101 features a leading list of some of the most credible Middle East scholars\, historians\, peace activists\, journalists\, and humanitarian workers: \nDr. Albert Aghazarian. SUMMARY:Inner Vision Workout Using Principles of A Course in Miracles — Fall 2014
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on the principles of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) and lessons from the ACIM Workbook & other resources\, we’ll practice meditation & creative visualization to develop our intuitive abilities and experientially explore some tasty questions! \nWhat prevents us from being happy now?\nIs there a better way to see ourselves and the world?\nWhat is an Inner Teacher & how can we tune in?\nWhat do we really want to do? \nDiscussion of these experiences and how to apply them to situations that come up in our lives is welcome\, but we will aim to spend the majority of the time experiencing rather than trying to use our logical minds to understand and solve problems.\nStudents of the Course will appreciate this class as a lab for developing our ability to dialog with the Holy Spirit (the Course’s name for the inner voice or teacher who also speaks from the point of view of the thought system that recognizes that only love exists). That said\, familiarity with the Course is not required. Believing in “God” or familiarity with the concept of an “inner voice” is not even required. All that is required is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore and play.\nInstructor Christopher Pelham is the Director and a co-founder of CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing). He balances his time between overseeing the growth and health of the CRS community\, producing arts/cultural/educational events at the Center\, and working as a CRS Healer and student and teacher of A Course in Miracles. He has previously also worked in educational publishing and as a web designer\, writer/editor\, actor (most notably for several seasons with Doris Duke Impact Award Winner Johnny Simons at the Hip Pocket Theatre in Ft. SUMMARY:Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement (ATM) Workshop — Fall 2014
DESCRIPTION:CRS is delighted to welcome back movement teacher Sita Mani to teach Feldenkrais at CRS this fall. Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons teach you how to reduce unnecessary muscular effort and improve awareness of the whole self in action. The teacher uses a combination of pleasant\, purposeful movement and guided attention to lead you through a particular pattern of movement and action. Emphasis on sensory learning results in movement that is more flexible\, pleasurable\, efficient and free from aches and pains.\nThe workshop will run Thursdays 6:45 – 8 pm from Sept 25 – Dec 4\, 2014 skipping Nov 30 (Thanksgiving).\nThe course is $200 for all ten meetings ($175 if registering by Sept 10). Drop-ins are also welcome; single classes are $25.\nSITA MANI was born in Germany to Indian parents and grew up in Thailand\, Switzerland\, and India. She began her movement training early\, studying Yoga and Tae Kwon Do at age 8 Bangkok.  \nSita began her study of western dance and classical ballet in Bombay and started her professional career on stage at the age of fourteen. She worked professionally as a Principal Dancer  and Choreographer’s Assistant in The Shiamak Davar Dance Company in India for a few years\,primarily doing Musical Theatre\, Music Videos and Teaching Dance.\nHer interests gravitated towards modern dance\, which lead to her work with artists from outside India such as Uttara Coorlawalla and Compagnie Choreographique De Renne. SUMMARY:Exhibition: Atonement – Aganai — Ceramic Sculpture by Miyu Asakawa
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is delighted to announce ATONEMENT – AGANAI\, an exhibition of ragu-fired stoneware by artist Miyu Asakawa. The ceramic masks and heads in this exhibition are inspired by actual events in the artist’s life. Each mask represents a feeling Miyu had at a particular moment in time\, phases in her life\, or in a relationship. All of the masks were cast of her own face or that of friends or family.\nAsakawa has been studying A Course in Miracles and was also inspired in her recent work by the Course’s re-conception of atonement as meaning to be “healed” by re-connecting with one’s inner truth (realizing that sin always was and is impossible and that we are always already perfect\, as God created us.) So\, even though these masks express the ego’s vulnerability and the scars of drama/trauma\, she wants to use this process of psychic excavation to reach something changeless below the surface\, to recover her own sense of strength and grace.\nAn Opening Reception with the artist will be held on Saturday\, September 13\, 2014 from 5 – 7 pm. Following the reception\, please join us for a screening of the lyrical and profound Dutch-Japanese documentary film “Water Children.”\nMiyu Asakawa was born in Fukuoka\, Japan and moved to New York in 1998. She has been working in ceramics for the last seven years. Most of the pieces in this exhibit are made in the Raku method\, which is a particular method of glazing and firing clay. In Raku\, the glaze of every piece comes out completely different\, even if it started out identical on two separate pieces. She has previously had exhibitions in NY at Art on A in Manhattan and at Roux Roux in Brooklyn.\n \nRead more\nOpening Sept 201413 5 – 7 pm

SUMMARY:Int'l Day of the Girl Screening & Talk by Miki Agrawal — 10/11
DESCRIPTION:IT’S A GIRL\nEvan Grae Davis\, Director\, 2012  \nUSA | 64′ (English)\nOn Saturday\, October 11\, 2014 at 5:30 pm\, CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) and Think Act Change NYC invite you to screen and discuss IT’S A GIRL\, a documentary film about the battle to end gendercide. \nWe’re super excited to confirm that the wonderfully awesome serial social entrepreneur Miki Agrawal (best-selling author of Do Cool Sh*t\, WILD pizza restaurateur\, recipient of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival’s “Disruptive Innovation Award” and named 2013’s Forbes’ “Top 20 Millienials On a Mission”) will be joining us to discuss the film and her current project THINX\, an underwear solution for “that time of the month” with proceeds from sale providing seven reusable cloth pads to get millions of girls back in school. And she’ll be bringing FREE PIZZA from Wild! And Sydney-based Think Act Change founder Avis Mulhall will be hosting\, and Molly Hayward\, founder of Cora (provides organic feminine hygience products by subscription and by donation to women in need all over the world) will be joining the panel discussion!\nThe United Nations estimates that as many as 200 million girls  are missing in the world today because they have been killed\, aborted or abandoned simply because they are girls. Will gender equality ever become a reality? What is stopping us from tackling this universal problem together and advancing women’s human rights today? This will be a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts on the latest Emma Watson HeforShe speech and on what you think the media and organizations could be doing collectively in our community to further gender equality because at the end of the day it’s not his or her problem\, it’s our problem.\nEarly bird tickets are $11 online. Seating is limited and first come\, first serve. Tickets are $15 at the door.\nABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY\nGirls who survive infancy are often subject to neglect\, and many grow up to face extreme violence and even death at the hands of their own husbands or other family members. The war against girls is rooted in centuries-old tradition and sustained by deeply ingrained cultural dynamics which\, in combination with government policies\, accelerate the elimination of girls.\nThe film tells the stories of abandoned and trafficked girls\, of women who suffer extreme dowry-related violence\, of brave mothers fighting to save their daughters’ lives\, and of other mothers who would kill for a son. Global experts and grassroots activists put the stories in context and advocate different paths towards change\, while collectively lamenting the lack of any truly effective action against this injustice.\nABOUT SPEAKER MIKI AGRAWAL\nMiki Agrawal is a serial social entrepreneur. She was a recipient of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival’s “Disruptive Innovation Award” and named 2013’s Forbes’ “Top 20 Millienials On a Mission.” She is the founder of the acclaimed farm-to-table\, alternative pizza concept called WILD (www.eatdrinkwild.com) in NYC. She has since partnered with Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh to open the concept in Downtown Las Vegas.\nHer next undertaking is THINX (www.shethinx.com)\, a high-tech\, beautiful underwear solution for women during their “time of the month.” She and her partners teamed up with AFRIpads in Uganda to fund seven reusable cloth pads for every pair of underwear sold to get millions of girls back in school.\n  \n \nMiki is also a partner in Super Sprowtz\, a children’s media company working to get kids to eat more vegetables (www.supersprowtz.com).\nMost recently\, Harper Collins published her book entitled “DO COOL SH*T” (www.docoolshit.org) on entrepreneurship and lifestyle design. The book launched on August 6th\, 2013 and in 3 days\, it hit #1 on Amazon Bestsellers list in entrepreneurship.\nMiki is an identical twin\, half-Japanese\, half-Indian French Canadian\, former professional soccer player and graduate of Cornell University. \nHOME \n\nIt’s a Girl web siteWatch trailer\nOctober 201411 5:30 pm

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Photography by Brad Oliphant – Opening 11/8
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is thrilled to announce an exhibition of photographs by Brad Oliphant. The exhibition will take place in conjunction with the publication of Lessons in Love from A Course in Miracles: Truths and Meditations on the Legendary Text (photos and text by Brad Oliphant\, foreward by Gary R. Renard).\nAn Opening Reception\, talk/slide presentation by the artist\, and book signing will take place on Saturday\, November 8\, 2014 from 5 – 7 pm. Author and A Course in Miracles teacher Jon Mundy\, Ph.D. will also be on hand to introduce Brad’s work and sign copies of his own books! The exhibition will continue into early January 2015.\nPlease RSVP @  bradgoliphant@gmail.com\nIf you are unable to attend the event but would like to purchase one or more signed copies of Lessons in Love\, please contact Brad @ 917-664-4917.\n \nFor more than 40 years\, award-winning fine arts photographer Brad Oliphant has been capturing unbelievable images of the natural world. He’s also a dedicated student/teacher of A Course in Miracles\, the thousand-page treatise on spiritual enlightenment said to have been channeled directly from Christ. Now\, in this beautifully illustrated gift book\, Brad combines his two passions: the insights he has received from a higher power and his lovely\, surreal photographs. The effect of his images is haunting\, yet empowering: he seems to break through the veil of everyday appearances to reach something deeper and richer\, seemingly accessible only to a chosen few. In addition to the stunning visuals\, Lessons in Love from A Course in Miracles contains inspirational quotes\, Brad’s reflections\, and a section on addiction and recovery that includes Brad’s personal experiences. Filled with wisdom on love\, freedom from ego\, and happiness\, this is a keepsake for any student of the Course—and anyone wishing to find a new level of awareness.\nBrad Oliphant stands at the frontline of Fine Arts Photography. Highly awarded\, and hosting a smorgasbord of collections\, ranging from florals to landscapes; angelic works to macro. It was his parents gift of a Canon film camera back in 1973 that set Brad’s path in motion. Brad has over 40 years of photography experience\, which includes the fields of fashion\, commercial and nature photography. Having walked away from a 12 year fashion run some time ago\, he left with countless credits and publications which included Marie Claire\, Dolce & Gabbana\, Ink\, Flick\, La Estetica\, and Zink. His love for the trade diminished and left him questioning where to go next. Brad turned to nature and fast became aware that he had found his true love. His passion for shooting nature and fine arts have become his chosen path. Born in Dallas\, Texas\, Brad obtained his BFA from the University of North Texas; majoring in photography and with a minor in botany. Little did He know at the time that soon he would be combining the two. Shortly there after\, Brad escaped to New York City to find his place amongst the leaders in his trade and where he still happily resides. Brad’s sole objective is to help inspire others with the grace and essence of spirit that lives and breathes in nature.\n \n \nBrad’s web site\nOpening Nov 20148 5 – 7 pm

SUMMARY:AdHoc Winter Concert — 12/7
DESCRIPTION:AdHoc Winter Concert\nDate: Time December 7th\, 2014 from 7 pm\nLocation: CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) \n               123 4th Ave (between 12th & 13th St) 2nd Floor\, New York\, NY10003\nMore info: hello@adhoc-ny.com\nTickets (RSVP): http://adhoc-winter2014.brownpapertickets.com\nWebsite: http://adhoc-ny.com\n \nWHO WE ARE\n \nAdHoc is a vibrant\, growing ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists based in New York City.  We’re inspired primarily by early music\, but we also believe that tradition can be played with.  We perform about half of our pieces off the score\, as the composer intended. The rest is experimental–our “ad hoc” repertoire.  Always looking for fresh ways to fuse new and old\, we might explore how an oratorio would sound when reduced to a solo voice and guitar\, or how an Italian aria could be reworked in a jazz setting.  The composition of our ensemble is just as dynamic as our sound.  While our foundation is a core group of dedicated residents\, we’re constantly seeking other NYC musicians to collaborate with us as guests on individual projects.  The result: a mashup of genres\, sounds\, and influences as fluid and eclectic as the city where we live and perform. \n \nWHAT WE DO\n \nAn AdHoc concert is a relaxed\, intimate gathering that brings people together to share food\, drink\, conversation\, and music.  It’s a “salon” without the stuffiness.  Our events are all about community–the floor is our stage\, with little space between performer and audience. On December 7th\, we’re thrilled to be hosting our first holiday soiree.  We’ll provide the delicious treats\, warming beverages\, and a musical intermission of festive tunes\, from madrigals and traditional carols to flamenco and jazz.  You bring your friends\, appetite\, and open ears.\n \nDecember 201477 pm

SUMMARY:Inner Vision Workout Using Principles of A Course in Miracles — Winter 2015
DESCRIPTION:We’ll meditate and practice asking for and receiving guidance from our inner teacher and we’ll practice spiritual reading of one another. If you’ve yet to attend\, it’s still perfectly perfect to show up! 🙂\nThink of this as a gym — or better yet a playground — for the spirit! We’ll use guided meditation\, creative visualization and improv games to practice being present\, to access our limitless imaginations and intuitive abilities\, and to align our thoughts and actions with the voice of unconditional love. After each exercise we’ll take time to discuss the experience and discover what we can learn and how it might apply to situations in daily life.\nPhilosophically\, we’ll be drawing on principles of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) as well as the teachings of Shakti Gawain\, Eckhart Tolle\, Barry Neil Kaufman\, Keith Johnstone\, and others. Familiarity with the Course or experience with meditation or improvisation is not required. All that is required is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore and play!\nStudents of the Course will appreciate this class as a lab for developing our ability to dialog with the Holy Spirit (the Course’s name for the inner voice or teacher who also speaks from the point of view of the thought system that recognizes that only love exists). Worth\, TX and with artists Richard Bach\, Harold Lehmann\, and Lake Simons in NYC)\, producer and videographer. He graduated from Duke University in 1991 with a degree in English. In addition to studying ACIM off and on with Yasuko Kasaki since 2003\, he studied the Spiritual Psychology of Acting with London-based teacher John Osborne Hughes and Jay Johnstone-based Improvisation with the late Gloria Maddox.\n \nRead more\nJan 8 – April 9\, 2015Thursdays7 – 8:30 pm

We will attempt to bring a spiritual perspective to themes such as environmentalism\, sustainability\, human rights\, economic justice and women’s empowerment. From the point of view of spirit\, “nothing real can be threatened” [A Course in Miracles]. From this perspective\, it is madness to try to change anyone or anything; however\, this conclusion hardly precludes action! Once freed from the need to change ourselves or others\, we can devote all our thoughts to sharing our love and creativity\, and there are an infinite variety of ways we can be kind and helpful to one another. In fact\, it is only through sharing our inner creativity and unconditional love that we remember and realize our limitlessness.\nTo this end we envision hosting documentary film screenings\, mixers\, lectures\, fundraisers\, panel discussions\, Q&As\, and\, perhaps later\, organizing and/or participating in various social good projects. We value diversity and inclusivity and invite you to share your voice with the community.\nhttp://www.meetup.com/Spirituality-Social-Change-Meetup/\n \nFebruary 201528 4:30 pm
