DESCRIPTION:Mar Creation Inc. and CRS invite you to a one-time performance on Friday\, June 17\, 2016 at 7:30 pm at CRS\, featuring live music by three members of the multiple Grammy winning Maria Schneider Orchestra — recent collaborators with David Bowie on his 2016 single\, “Sue (Or In A Season of Crime)” —.and live painting by internationally renowned Japanese calligrapher\, Setsuhi Shiraishi. Shiraishi\, currently on a US tour\, will create a mixture of conventional and modern calligraphy accompanied by Jay Anderson (bass)\, Scott Robinson (sax)\, Gary Versace (accordion). \nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door and are available online\, by phone 212-677-8621 and at CRS. \nCalligrapher Setsuhi Shiraishi specializes in shodo\, a form of Japanese calligraphy and is famous for creating large-scale works in a performance setting. Having been interested in calligraphy during her childhood\, Shiraishi became a calligraphy master at 22 years old. She is pursuing her own unique style of calligraphy while expressing the world of traditional calligraphy. She has toured widely in Europe and Asia and recently in the United States\, attracting many fans from around the world through her live collaborative performances with music. \nSetsuhi has given calligraphy performances at various places including the private salon Diners Club Ginza Lounge in Tokyo\, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Tokyo (at the 60th anniversary event of the launch of Fissler’s pressure cookers)\, and the British Museum in London. She also held a joint performance with the London Improvisers Orchestra\, participated in an art fair in Paris\, and held personal exhibitions in both Paris and New York. Also in New York\, Setsuhi conducted a calligraphy workshop and performed in both a jazz club and an art gallery with Jay Anderson and Frank Kimbrough of the Maria Schneider Orchestra as well as jazz horn player Adam Unsworth. \n\n\n\nIn addition\, Setsuhi calligraphed the title on a CD cover for Jiang Xiao-Qing\, a world-famous player of the traditional Chinese “guzheng” string instrument. \nSetsuhi collaborates with accessory designer RYONA to create 縁 (“en”)\, their unique brand of calligraphic accessories. The 縁 (“en”) brand is sold at limited-time stores at the Shibuya Hikarie in Tokyo and the Abeno Harukas Kintetsu Main Store in Osaka\, and is now permanently sold at the Shizuoka Isetan Department Store in Shizuoka\, Japan. \nSetsuhi holds her own calligraphy salon at the art space and cafe\, Sakaiki\, and holds regular calligraphy lessons in Omotesando. \nSetsuhi Shiraishi Official Homepage:\n書道家白石雪妃\nwww.setsuhi.jp \nSetsuhi Shiraishi Official Blog:\n書道家・白石雪妃 公式ブログ\nsetsuhi.modalbeats.com \n  \nAbout Scott Robinson (saxophone) \n\nOne of today’s most wide-ranging instrumentalists\, Scott Robinson has been heard on tenor sax with Buck Clayton’s band\, on trumpet with Lionel Hampton’s quintet\, on alto clarinet with Paquito D’Rivera’s clarinet quartet\, and on bass sax with the New York City Opera. On these and other instruments including theremin and ophicleide\, he has been heard with a cross-section of jazz’s greats representing nearly every imaginable style of the music\, from Braff to Braxton. Primarily a tenor saxophonist\, Scott placed directly below the great Sonny Rollins in this year’s DownBeat Readers Poll. Scott has been heard numerous times on film\, radio and television\, and his discography now includes more than 240 recordings. His releases as a leader have garnered five-star reviews from Leonard Feather\, Down Beat Magazine and other sources worldwide\, and have appeared in many “Best of the Year” lists. Scott’s collaborators on disc have included Frank Wess\, Hank Jones\, Joe Lovano\, Ron Carter\, and Bob Brookmeyer\, and he has been a member of Maria Schneider’s Orchestra for twenty years. \nA busy traveller\, Scott has performed in some forty nations\, once completing tours on five continents in a three-month period. He has performed in such diverse and prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall\, the Village Vanguard\, the Library of Congress and the Vienna Opera House. His performances for dignitaries worldwide have included a U.S. Presidential Inauguration and a command performance honoring the birthday of the king of Thailand. Scott’s group was selected to be the closing act at the Knitting Factory’s Sun Ra Festival in New York City. Scott has also written magazine articles and liner notes\, and was an invited speaker at the Congressional Black Caucus Jazz Forum in Washington\, D.C. \nScott has been a staunch advocate for creative music around the world. He was selected by the US State Department to be a Jazz Ambassador for 2001\, completing an eight-week\, eleven-country tour of West Africa performing his arrangements of the compositions of Louis Armstrong (later featured on his CD Jazz Ambassador). In 2012\, Scott served as artist-in-residence at the week-long Ancona Summer Jazz Festival in Italy. He is currently serving each June as musical host of the annual Louis Armstrong Jazz Festival in Hungary. \nScott’s many works as a composer cover a very wide range\, from solo performance pieces\, jazz tunes and songs\, and chamber works such as his Immensities for Large Instruments\, on up to large-scale compositions for wind band\, symphony orchestra\, and even combined orchestras. \nThe son of a piano teacher and a National Geographic writer/editor\, Scott Robinson was born on April 27\, 1959 in New Jersey\, and grew up in an eighteenth century Virginia farmhouse. While in high school\, he received the “Louis Armstrong Award\,” and the “Best Soloist Award” from the National Association of Jazz Educators. In 1981\, he graduated from Boston’s Berklee College of Music\, and a year later became\, at 22\, Berklee’s youngest faculty member. \nSince moving to New York in 1984\, Scott has been awarded four fellowships by the National Endowment for the Arts\, and participated in a number of Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning recordings. He has been profiled in new editions of the Encyclopedia of Jazz and Grove’s Dictionary of Jazz\, along with books by Royal Stokes\, Nat Hentoff and others. In 1997\, a 4-minute CNN program featured Scott and the giant contrabass saxophone which he used on his CD\, Thinking Big. Scott has been the winner of a number DownBeat Critics Polls and Jazz Journalists Association awards in recent years. \nNow a resident of Teaneck\, NJ\, Scott has constructed a studio/laboratory for sonic research\, containing an astonishing assortment of instruments and devices. His first solo and collaborative recordings from this facility have begun to appear under his own ScienSonic Laboratories imprint. ScienSonic Laboratories\, LLC has released some highly creative and far-reaching projects including Nucleus\,  Creative Music for 3 Bass Saxophones\, and Live at Space Farms featuring longtime Sun Ra saxophonist Marshall Allen. In 2012\, ScienSonic’s recordings were certified by the Space Foundation as Certified Space Imagination Products\, entitled to bear the Foundation’s certification seal. Projects from ScienSonic Laboratories include recordings with Frank Kimbrough\, Emil Viklicky\, Marshall Allen\, Henry Grimes and Roscoe Mitchell. \nUnder the Doc-Tone imprint\, Scott recently released Bronze Nemesis\, a CD featuring 12 compositions based on the exploits of 1930s pulp adventure hero Doc Savage. This project\, ten years in the making\, was greeted with extensive press coverage in the New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, DownBeat and elsewhere. The group\, known as the “Doctette”\, will perform at this year’s Newport Jazz Festival. \nAn endorsing artist for Vandoren reeds and mouthpieces since the mid-eighties\, Scott has recently been signed to Denis Wick of London as an artist/endorser of their products for brass. \nA respected performer in all areas of jazz\, from traditional to avant-garde\, Scott Robinson has arrived at his own unique musical voice which\, as once described in a Northsea Jazz Festival program\, “combines solid foundations with great daring”. \n\n  \nAbout Jay Anderson (bass) \nBassist/composer Jay Anderson is among the most versatile and respected jazz artists performing today. SUMMARY:New York Wake Up Meditation Meetup Group
DESCRIPTION:New York Wake Up is a group of young meditation practitioners who get together to create a joyful space of refuge for young adults. We are inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. We do the fun things that New York city dwellers do\, but actively maintain the best elements of our culture: inclusiveness\, healthy consumption\, hope\, joy\, great energy\, activism\, and community. By being wonderfully together we create support for each other. We find we are not alone with the suffering of our generation. We seek out our true selves amid the dynamics of our new relationships\, new jobs\, struggling minds\, dynamic bodies\, busy cities and big life changes. We share our success in practicing mindfulness and finding happiness. We practice with our local Sanghas\, at practice centers\, and with the teachings\, so as to nurture our hearts and minds and create real hope for our generation and our future. \nTypical evening schedule:\n20 Minutes Seated Meditation\n10 Min Walking Meditation\n10 Min Reading\n30 Min Sharing Circle\nTea And Snacks till closing \nTo receive emails for updates\, please subscribe to out announcement email list: list:https://wakeupnewyork.org/stay-in-touch/ \nthe wake up movement\nThere are also Wake Up communities budding across the world in North America\, Europe and Asia.  The Wake Up movement grew out of the Plum Village mindfulness center in SW France\, under the support of  Thich Nhat Hanh  and the Plum Village community of monks\, nuns and lay practitioners. Wake Up ‘officially’ launched in the summer of 2008  with the goal of making the practice of mindfulness more applicable and relevant to young people. SUMMARY:SOSEI (Revival) — Film Screening + Talk About Soil Microorganisms & Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant
DESCRIPTION:Japanese director Tetsu Shiratori’s fourth documentary film 「蘇生」SOSEI (Revival) captivatingly captures his search for holistic solutions to cleanse the environment of chemical and radioactive contamination and preserve the earth’s health and beauty for future generations. His quest reveals the power and beauty of microorganisms\, the oldest living organisms known on earth\, to help undo environmental pollution. \nBeneficial microorganisms\, especially Yeast\, Lactic Bacteria and Photosynthetic Bacteria\, have the potential to restore the environment and whole ecosystems that have long been polluted by human activities\, and even digest and eliminate radioactive contamination. \nScreenings will take place at CRS on Saturday\, June 25\, 2016 at 12:30 pm and again at 3 pm. Tickets are $20 and are available online\, by phone (212-677-8621) and at CRS. \nFollowing each screening there will be a short talk expanding led by guest speakers Terry Sato and Ayumi Imagawa on the potential role that microorganisms may play in eliminating radioactive contamination and an update on the state of the nearby Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. \n蘇生」 SOSEI (Revival)\ndirected by Tetsu Shiratori\n2015 | 90′ (in Japanese w/ English Subtitles)\nhttp://officetetsushiratori.jp/sosei/en/story.php \nToday\, more than 120\,000 residents are still taking shelter due to the Fukushima nuclear accident in East Japan. Not only that\, mega-typhoons\, floods\, drought\, heavy snowfalls…natural disasters are increasing in numbers and their magnitudes are rising. Something is happening to the biosphere of the earth\, and this film invites us to consider not only how to clean up the messes we make but also how to lead healthier lives together so that we avoid doing harm in the first place. \nView the trailer: \n\n\n\nMessage from Director Tetsu Shiratori \nIt all began in Fukushima.\nIn May 2011\, two months after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fukushima nuclear accident\, I visited Fukushima with a camera in my hands.\nThe noisy hazard alarm from the Geiger counter told me the harsh reality behind the beauty of nature in Fukushima. \nWhat have we done…\nWe as a human race have committed a great sin….\nMy heart shivered. \nWhat can we do?\nWhat should I do? \nAs I searched for an answer\, I came to know about the power of Microorganisms.\nThey are able to not only resolve many environmental problems we face today but digest radioactive pollution as well.\nMicroorganisms are a great hope for the humanity\, I thought.\nMy journey to discover the amazing abilities of Microorganisms had begun. \nFor many decades\, we have contaminated the atmosphere\, oceans\, mountains and rivers.\nWe’ve taken many lives with no mercy\, and names just seem to keep piling up on the red list. \nAren’t we thinking about only about ourselves?\nAren’t we dominated by the selfish mind:  “What’s in it for me?” \nIf the world population of more than 7 billion people is to think only of their own greed and act without compassion toward other living things\, what will the world be like when our children grow up? \nWe\, the human race\, cannot live by ourselves.\nAnimals\, plants\, air\, water… everything is interconnected through the chain of life.\nIf we were to ignore the law of nature\, there is no future for us.\nLife can only be passed on by receiving from the past and offering and dedicating to the next generations. \nI hope this film\, SOSEI (Revival)\, will inspire and encourage people to overcome their differences and disagreements that separate us from working together and instead use our time and gifts for respecting and caring for each other. SUMMARY:Healing Circle
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our July Healing Circle and spirit journey! 20 people attended our last one\, which is nearly capacity\, so please sign up in advance! Registration is $20. \nWe’ll start off with drumming meditation and singing — yes\, we will all add our wordless voices\, calling our spirits home\, to the rhythm of the drum! Then\, this month we’ll journey with a partner to meet the partner’s spirit animal and return with guidance for him or her. This is a beautiful way to use your spiritual sight on behalf of others and get to know someone new. \nWe’ll finish with a glass of wine and whatever munchies YOU bring to share — social time! \nYou might want to bring pen and paper for taking notes. No previous experience is required and the circles are open. While we hope you will fill inspired to regularly share your shining spirit with this spiritual community\, you are welcome to attend without any intention of returning. \nOur purpose\, guided by our devoted study and practice of A Course in Miracles\, is to remind one another that we are one and the same\, always already perfect expressions of love. Therefore\, we will be training ourselves to look for and find such reminders in all of our visions and experiences. While the forms of our activities may draw on or be adapted from various shamanic and healing traditions\, we do not seek to hold up any particular forms as essential or superior in and of themselves. Any form or experience could be used to remember who we truly are and to join with others. We will be using these particular forms simply because we enjoy them! \n***************************************************************** \nOur mission is to help you to discover\, develop\, and use your gift\, and to appreciate the joy of sharing it. We opened CRS with the help of a community of healers\, seekers\, and artists\, many of whom had come from other countries looking for inspiration\, Together\, we offer a prayer to help one another. \nCRS is a healing center. Our healing is based on A Course in Miracles (ACIM). ACIM says that salvation occurs when you are with your brother. When you know the truth about your brother\, you will know the truth of who you truly are\, because you will recognize that you and your brother are actually one\, always already perfect expressions of love. Recognizing this truth is the only way to experience peace. \nCRS is also an event space and art center. We offer support to those who bear witness to the truth\, which is something that everyone is capable of doing and sharing. CRS is a safe space where you can know yourself\, be yourself\, and express yourself honestly without being judged. We wish you to extend and share your creative spirit more and more and to experience more and more joy. \nCRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki is the author of 15 books in Japanese about A Course in Miracles\, as well as numerous novels and collections of photographs\, short stories and essays. Her translations of the ACIM Workbook as well as books by ACIM writers Jon Mundy\, Gabrielle Bernstein and David Hoffmeister and works by poet Maya Angelou and others have also been published in Japan. She is currently translating Mari Perron’s A Course of Love and the ACIM Original Edition into Japanese for publisher Natural Spirit. She has been offering spiritual counseling\, reading\, instruction and healing to individuals and groups since 1999. In 2004 she and partner Christopher Pelham founded CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing)\, the first and only spiritual center devoted to the teaching and practice of ACIM in New York City. In addition to teaching weekly classes at CRS\, Yasuko travels several times a year to Japan where she teaches seminars organized by the vibrant community of study groups established by her students\, by International Beauty Foundation for which she is a board member and columnist\, and with other leading lecturers and healers. \nCRS Co-Founder Christopher Pelham has a background in ensemble and improvisational theatre and has been studying ACIM since 2003 and offering healing and spiritual counseling since 2013. He leads the Monday night guided meditation and Healing Clinic at CRS\, teaches A Course of Love on Wednesday nights\, participates in the Tuesday night Healing Clinics and assists Yasuko in the leading of the Monday night ACIM Classes.

SUMMARY:Eternal Life & A Course in Miracles with Jon Mundy\, Ph.D. & Rod Chelberg\, M.D.
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a book signing and conversation about Jon Mundy\, Ph.D.’s newest title\, Eternal Life and A Course in Miracles\, released May 3. Joining him will be his long-time friend and colleague\, Rod Chelberg\, M.D. from Bangor\, Maine. \nDr. Rod Chelberg is an accomplished student/teacher of ACIM. He has practiced medicine for 28 years and is the medical director for three nursing homes in the Bangor\, Maine area as well as for Beacon Hospice. He writes\, on average\, two death certificates a day. Rod prays with his patients\, sees auras and so much more. This is the man you want at your bedside when it is time to go. \nAbout Eternal Life and A Course in Miracles: A Path to Eternity in the Essential Text \nYou do not live here. We are trying to reach your real home. We are trying to reach the place where you are truly welcome. We are trying to reach God.\n—A Course in Miracles W-49.4:5 \nThere is no bigger mystery\, nothing more compelling than the desire to know about “life after life.” Jon Mundy\, the respected longtime teacher and interpreter of A Course in Miracles\, now investigates that enigma\, using insights from the Course on mortality\, death\, and the afterlife. Mundy discusses facing death and learning to let go\, the ephemeral nature of the physical body and the eternal reality of the mind\, and the reawakening of our Spirit as the one\, true home. It’s a book filled with hope—and a way to alleviate our fear of death. \nJon Mundy\, Ph.D. met Dr. Helen Schucman\, the scribe for A Course in Miracles\, in 1973. Helen introduced Jon to the Course and served as his mentor and guide till she became ill in 1980. He is the author of Living A Course in Miracles. After Return to Love by Marianne Williamson\, it is currently the best-selling book based on the teaching of A Course in Miracles. He is the publisher of Miracles magazine and the Executive Director of All Faiths Seminary International in New York City\, which meets here at CRS. He taught courses in Philosophy and Religion from 1967 to 2008 at the New School University and the State University of New York. \nThe fee for attending the lecture is $25. Call 212-866-3795 or email Fran@miraclesmagazine.org to register in advance. \nIf you’re new (to registering with Jon)\, please leave your street address and email. Jon’s office files everything in the computer by zip code. No need to send emails to Florida for events in NYC. \nYour name will be on a list at the door. To pay by credit card\, please register in advance. Or\, you can pay with cash or a check at the door. \n

SUMMARY:Japanese Music Concert with Seasonal Sweets
DESCRIPTION:CRS & Mar Creation\, Inc. invite you to discover traditional Japanese music by the acclaimed koto and shamisen player Yoko Reikano Kimura offered together with an exclusive taste of beautiful Japanese seasonal sweets prepared by Rin NYC. The concert will take place on Sunday\, July 17\, 2016 at 4 pm at CRS. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the show and include wagashi (sweets) for the summer season. Seating is limited and advanced purchased (online\, by phone 212-677-8621\, or in person at CRS) is strongly encouraged. \n“…Yoko Reikano Kimura\, playing the shamisen and singing\, is superb….” — New York Times \n“…Kimura’s performance on the solo shamisen was quite stunning. An elegant refined presence perfectly poised\, she played with precision\, beauty and the utmost confidence….” — San Francisco Examiner \nThis will be the fourth in a seasonal series of music concerts called Four Seasons in New York — Gems of Japanese Music. After many centuries\, the brilliance of traditional Japanese music is still being passed on to the present day. Come and experience the sounds of koto and shamisen and enjoy the taste of the four seasons here in New York. This concert series will feature each season’s representative traditional works along with the colorful and delicate Japanese style confectionaries. \nEach season is expressed through ingredients. Spring traditionally begins with sakura (cherry blossoms)\, broccoli rabe\, strawberries and raspberries\, followed by elderflower\, rose\, edamame and sansho (Japanese pepper) in summer. As autumn approaches we’ll pick chrysanthemum\, apples\, grapes\, chestnuts and hazelnuts; and yuzu and kumquats in winter…. Even within one season\, the taste and the form change gradually from hashiri through nagori. \nConcert Program: \nChidori no Kyoku – Song of Plover – (composed by Yoshizawa kengyo) koto solo\nNatsu no Nagame – Ode to Summer – (composed by Yamaki kengyoⅡ) shamisen solo\nChouryū -Tide- (composed by Seiju Suzuki) koto solo \nmochi Rin / Bite-sized mochi dessert made with organic bean paste\, seasonally fruits and flowers in NY.\nWe present a new type of mochi that doesn’t quite exist in Japan\, by infusing New York’s locally-sourced ingredients into Japan’s popular traditional dessert —the stuffed mochi rounds\, such as daifuku and sakura-mochi — and mixing in rin\, the element of restrained grace.  http://www.rin-nyc.com \nMore about Yoko \nAs a frequent soloist and collaborator\, Japanese born Koto/Shamisen performer and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura has performed in NYC\, Chicago\, Tokyo\, Kyoto and many other cities\, featuring a wide-ranging repertoire from classical Japanese music to improvisational pieces. Yoko has won numerous awards including the First Prize at the prestigious 10th Kenjun Memorial National Koto Competition as the first Yamada style koto performer. She received the First Prize at the 4th Great Wall International Music Competition and the Osaka Chinese Counsel Award and won the Japanese music audition for NHK-FM radio and her solo shamisen performance was broadcasted nationally. Since then she has performed numerous koto and shamisen pieces for the radio and regularly toured internationally. \nSince Yoko moved to the US in 2010\, her mission has been to promote Japanese music to American audiences. As part of this mission she is performing and giving workshops at various venues\, such as the UN\, Merkin\, Bargemusic\, Roulette\, Princeton University\, Japan Society\, Harvard University\, Princeton University\, the New England Conservatory\, the University of Chicago\, Duke University and many others. http://www.yamadaryu.com/reikano/ \nAs part of the award-winning Duo Yumeno\, she has just released the album Flowers\, Birds\, Wind\, Moon:  The Music of Marty Regan. SUMMARY:Brazilian Music Concert
DESCRIPTION:Mar Creation\, Inc. and CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invite you to experience the infectious music of this year’s Olympic host\, Brazil! Join us Friday\, July 29\, 2016 at 7:30 pm for a set of Brazilian-inspired originals by Duo Romi & Soli and a set of Brazilian jazz by singer Hiromi Suda backed by Anne Drummond (flute) and Andres Rotmistrovsky (electric bass). \nTickets are $15 in advance (through 7/28) and $20 at the door and are available online\, by phone 212-677-8621 or at CRS. \nRomi and Soli mix a variety of styles of Brazil’s most celebrated music —  samba\, baião and bossa-nova — performed with musicianship and beautiful\, open-hearted vocals. The songs that they will be playing are all originals. \n“Blessed with a pure\, crystalline mountain lake voice\, Hiromi Suda combines the classical qualities of intricate phrasing\, and attention to emphasis and timing with a melodic and harmonic complexity that reminds of bossa nova.” \n\n\n\nAbout Romi & Soli \nSoli (vocal\, guitar) is a singer–song–writer/producer from Bahia\, Brazil. He sings lyrics in both Portuguese and English on top of his guitar accompaniment\, combining different rhythm patterns from Brazil including Baião. He loves to freely fuse many styles of music for lifting up the spirits. \n*Baião is a traditional style of music in north-east Brazil. \nRomi (keyboard) is a pianist/composer from Japan. She’s performed in Japan and the US with various ensembles. She has also worked as producer/engineer in the music/recording industry. She holds a BA in Piano from Kunitachi College of Music and a MA in music composition from Queens College. \nAbout Hiromi Suda \nVocalist/composer Hiromi Suda won the World Scholarship and entered Berklee College of Music in 2005. There\, Ms. Suda studied with many world renowned musicians including Jazz vocals with Ms. Lisa Thorson\, Latin American music with Ms. Mili Bermejo and Brazilian music styles with Fernando Brandao. \nBy 2007\, Hiromi had developed a keen interest in Brazilian music and during the summer of 2007 she spent three months in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil further honing her skill with Brazilian music styles and instruments\, such as the pandeiro. Her experience in Brazil was highly rewarding not only musically\, but also gave a historical and cultural context to her passion for Brazilian music.  During this period\, Ms. Suda attended the Choro School called Escola Portatil de Musica. She studied the pandeiro with Celsinho Silva and Jorginho Silva and choro vocal style with the choro singer\, Amelia Rabello and MPB vocal style with the Brazilian vocalist Suely Mesuqita. \nIn the ensuing years\, Hiromi Suda has magnificently woven her  knowledge of Brazilian music to produce a singular and innovative sound recognized by critics as a serious contribution in vocal style and technique.  Ms. Suda performed with the choro group Choro Democratico and the great flute player\, Fernando Brandao\, including concerts at the Brazilian 13th Independence Day Festival\, Ryles Jazz Club\, University of Massachusetts\, among others. She performed with Clarice Assad group in NY including the concert at The stone. She also leads concerts with her own band in New York such as Blue note NY\, Zinc bar\, Cornelia street cafe and among others\, the Kennedy center in Washington DC(Iberian music festival) and New England and Japan. \nShe released her debut album in 2008\, which received many accolades and prompted a tour with world famous percussionist\, Keita Ogawa. The album is receiving great radio support worldwide\, including featured performances for several radios in Japan. \nIn January 2012 she recorded her sophomore album\, ‘Sou’ produced by the great Brazilian guitarist\, Romero Lubambo and recorded at the famed Avatar studio in NY. The band members are Anne Drummond(Flute)\, Julian Shore(Piano)\, Keita Ogawa(Percussions/Drums)\,Yasushi Nakamura(Bass). “Sou” was released in August 2012 from Happiness Records. She did CD release tour in Japan(Tokyo\, Yokohama\, Osaka\, Nagoya\, Hitachi\, Mito and Kofu). SUMMARY:Healing Circle
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our August Healing Circle and spirit journey! Space is limited so please sign up in advance! Registration is $20. \nWe’ll start off with drumming meditation and singing — yes\, we will all add our wordless voices\, calling our spirits home\, to the rhythm of the drum! Then\, this month we’ll go deeper into our partnering work journeying to meet the partner’s spirit animal and return with some specific and useful guidance about what kind of energy the partner wants to use to extend and grow and what form that might take.

SUMMARY:Exhibition — The Art of A Good Life in Hell by Ai Tatebayashi
DESCRIPTION:CRS announces Light in Darkness\, an exhibition of original art (watercolor\, ink\, gouache\, and graphite on paper) from the illustrated book A Good Life in Hell by Ai Tatebayashi. A Good Life in Hell is an illustrated book that tells the life stories of Sumiteru Taniguchi\, a Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor (hibakusha in Japanese)\, and his wife Eiko. Their shared history offers both a stark look at the horrific legacy of nuclear weapons\, as well as a tale of inspiration for all those facing challenges as they pursue meaning and happiness in their own lives. \nThe exhibition will be on view from August 4 – October 4\, 2016. An Opening Reception with the artist with live reading of the book will be held on Saturday\, August 13\, 2016 from 4 – 6 pm. \nA Good Life in Hell contains important lessons about the past\, but it is even more about living in the present. Exploring daily rituals in the Taniguchi home as Sumiteru and Eiko enter their 80s\, a reader must reflect on how today’s decisions can affect our collective and personal futures—for better or for worse. \nARTIST AND INSPIRATION \nAi Tatebayashi\, the artist and author of A Good Life in Hell\, first learned about Sumiteru Taniguchi from a Japanese TV show. She quickly realized that most people\, especially younger Japanese adults like her\, knew nothing of the everyday suffering of atomic bomb survivors. \nSumiteru’s words drove her to initiate this project: \n“I am not afraid of death. But I am afraid of oblivion. Oblivion of the fear of the atomic bomb.” \nAi met with Sumiteru Taniguchi and his wife Eiko several times\, both in New York and in Nagasaki. She recorded stories of their past and observed their daily life. \nCreating striking original illustrations—some luminous and beautiful\, others dark and bleak—Ai depicted scenes inspired by the couple’s long journey together with richness and depth. She enlisted Justin Neely as co-writer to collaborate on story development and research\, as well as to capture her ideas and her voice in written English with nuance and precision. \nA Good Life in Hell is currently available for purchase online at www.agoodlifeinhell.com\, Lulu.com\, and Amazon.com. A Japanese translation published in July 2016 as「生きているかぎり語り続ける」by Shufunotomo Co. (www.shufunotomo.co.jp) is currently available only in Japan. \nABOUT AI TATEBAYASHI \nI am from the city called Yokohama\, Japan. Since Yokohama developed as a major seaport\, Western style quickly spread and was embraced by Japanese culture. I grew up influenced by the modern western environment\, enjoying looking at Norman Rockwell’s posters\, illustrated American pin up girls\, and so on\, which stimulated my interests in American culture. After working at an advertising agency in Japan\, I came to New York City for an intensive study of illustration. At the School of Visual Arts\, I developed my linear drawing style and sense of color. People’s feelings or characters are important for my work. I love observing people and drawing them with my unique view and sense of humor. In Japan\, my major  was French literature in Rikkyo university. I still love to read. This reading leads me to continue to explore different cultures and worlds. In turn\, this helps me to introduce the views of others through my illustration. — Ai\nhttp://www.miniai.com/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:Film Screening: Prenatal Memories of Children
DESCRIPTION:Yoshiko Nakamura and CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invite you to screen and discuss the documentary “Prenatal Memories of Children” (2016\, 94’ in Japanese w/ English subtitles) by director Norio Ogikubo. Whether you are skeptical of prenatal memories or not\, you might be deeply inspired and even healed by the thoughts shared by the children in this film and by the commitment of the adults to listen to\, respect and learn from the children. \nScreenings will be held on August 20\, 2016 at 1:15 and 4:15 pm. The film will be introduced by CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki and Yoshiko Nakamura will lead a Skype chat and Q&A with director Norio Ogikubo. Tickets are $20 and are available online\, by phone (212) 677-8621\, and at CRS. \nOriginally released in 2013\, the film has just been updated and re-released with a new ending. This is the world premiere of the new version with English subtitles. \nCast: Akira Ikekawa\, Midori Minamiyama\, Masayuki Ohkado\, Yumiko Tobitani\,  Chikako Kagami\,\nDirector: Norio Ogikubo\nProducer: Norio Ogikubo \nThis documentary film explores the themes of prenatal memories\, child-rearing\, and the healing of our own inner children. “Prenatal memories” refers to the children’s recollections from the time that they were inside their mothers’ bodies as well as from an even earlier time. It is said that children are able to access such memories between the ages of around two and four. \n“Inner children” refers to “the small children living inside of us”; in other words\, the purest version of our own selves\, who resides deep inside our own hearts—and who might have been wounded and repressed by painful experiences during childhood. \nIn this film—which has neither music nor narration—the camera carefully captures interviews regarding prenatal memories\, as well as child-rearing scenes\, and the process through which self-affirmative inner child work is undertaken. \nIt is our hope that viewers will put aside any prior existing conceptions to watch our film\, which portrays researchers\, educators\, and communicative healers working intently with children. By inviting our audience to watch with fresh eyes\, we thereby aim to provide a space for our audience members to consider\, also with fresh eyes\, the relationships with their own children\, as well as any other children in their lives. \nhttp://norio-ogikubo.info/en/ \n\n\n\n  \n
