SUMMARY:Exhibition: Paintings by Yoshihiro Youkee Nishida
DESCRIPTION:CRS presents “The Only Person in the Vast World! Practice Accessing Vital Source Through Art\,” an exhibition of acrylic paintings on burlap by Yoshihiro Youkee Nishida that explores the relationship between materials and between materials and artist. The exhibition will be on view from December 4\, 2017 – February 6\, 2018. \nThink of the painted object dancing. In this art series the painting and the burlap are dancing together as one object in space. The painting and the burlap exist in a symbiotic relationship with each other. Without both together the art would not exist. The confluence of energy\, like the Dance of Shiva\, is the cause of creation. A reciprocity exists between the materials\, textures\, colors\, paint and media used in this series. One might say this of the materials of any art works; here\, the artist asks us to focus on it and enter into relationship with the energies of the materials. We might feel some life force in the materials\, some sense of their participation in the creation\, of their volition even\, and of the artist’s gratitude. We might feel as if the artist is collaborating with the materials\, and that we\, by meditating on this\, join in the relationship. \nMaterials: Burlap\, Acrylic paint marker\, Acrylic \nArtist Statment: \n“Art de Genki” is the name I have given to my art. It means Art through Vital Energy. My approach to art changed after moving to New York City and working full time as a gardener. Previously I was a full time artist working inside a studio. Now I am a part time artist. As a gardener in Battery Park City Parks\, I work outside in all seasons and in all weather conditions. Since 2006\, from April through October on weekends and holidays I create chalk drawings in the park. This is one of my major forms of Art. The park itself has become my studio and the pavement is my canvas. \nI am very aware of Nature all around me:  sky\, river\, clouds\, trees\, plants\, flowers\, animals\, and many people. I sense the energy of the world around me. \nWhile creating my drawings in public I feel that I am also a performance artist as people are watching my creative process. I am also observing myself drawing. Yet while I am drawing I am not so much aware of the chalk\, the pavement or the movement of my hands. More deeply\, I am open to the Vital Energy flowing through me and around me. I am practicing deeply and delivering my energy over my art. Art has become my Spiritual Practice. \nBIO: \nYoukee was born in Kyoto\, Japan. After receiving a law degree from Kwansei Gakuin University\, he decided to pursue his true passion – art – which brought him to the United States. He has completed MFA programs in printmaking and lithography at the Otis Art Institute and Cranbrook Academy of Art\, and currently lives in New York. \nHis solo shows over the past 20 years have included exhibitions at the following venues: \n\n2004 Gallery MOMO in Tokyo\, Japan\n2004 Osaka Sogo Design School in Osaka\, Japan\n1999 Maruka Moko Show Room in Hiroshima\, Japan\n1998 Osaka Contemporary Art Center in Osaka\, Japan\n1998 Pinpoint Art Gallery in Tokyo\, Japan\n1997 Kumamoto Pref. Art Museum in Kumamoto\, Japan\n1997 Osaka Contemporary Art Center in Osaka\, Japan\n1996 LA FONTE Gallery in Utsunomiya\, Tochigi\, Japan\n1994 OJAI Center For The Arts\, Ojai\, Calif.\n1991 Dentsu AD Gallery in Tokyo\, Japan\n1990 HALS Gallery in Tokyo\, Japan\n1990 TOSO Show Room in Tokyo\, Japan\n1986 ARTSPACE INC. Gallery in Los Angeles\, Calif.\n1986 MM SHINO Gallery in Los Angeles\, Calif.\n1984 ATHEN Gallery in Tokyo in Japan\n1984 ATHEN Gallery in Tokyo in Japan\n\nHe is often found creating art at Battery Park City Park on sunny days. \nYoukee’s complete resume can be read at CRS. His “soul profile” is below: \nWhen I was a student on the way home from my part time job one day\, I felt I would be a person to be alone with myself looking up over the sky! What did I mean by that? I just let it go without thinking deeper for a long time. After graduating from college\, I started studying art in Los Angeles. Then I moved to New York. As a street artist here after releasing myself from a limited studio to the open space in the park\, the Sun\, Wind\, Rain\, trees\, flowers\, birds\, all other nature\, including wild animals\, tourists\, walkers\, joggers\, in all other people and nature\, I continue drawing my paintings there patiently…. noticing and observing myself alone in such an environment…. \nAlas……this is “The Only person (being myself\, without anyone nor family) in the vast world!”\nNow I understood. \nBeing myself and being in the present moment by observing everything around me and my soul…from this comes oneness with the universe\, nothing needed! Just Be! \nhttp://www.artdegenki.com

SUMMARY:USAATO Clothing Exhibition & Sale
DESCRIPTION:CRS welcomes you to the second exhibition of USAATO clothing at CRS! USAATO shares beautiful traditional clothes made in Chiang Mai\, Thailand. The clothing is designed by Japanese haute couture designer Usaburo Sato with fabrics made by the caring hands of the Thai people. The fabrics are made of cotton\, silk and hemp\, picked in mountains and villages\, naturally dyed from plants and fruits\, then made into clothes with traditional weaving machines by women in local villages of Thailand and Laos. Soft and warm\, relaxing wears suitable for both outside and home. \nAll fabrics are once gathered at “USAATO SIAM” in Chiang Mai and then delivered for the sewing process. USAATO clothes are sewn by individuals and groups outbound Chiang Mai\, not by the company’s factory. (One part of our products is from machine-weaving.) \nThe products are mostly women’s clothes but men’s clothes\, children’s clothes\, samue (monk’s working clothes)\, and rakui (pajamas) are also available. SUMMARY:Sound Meditation Concert with Kana Kamitsubo Markovic
DESCRIPTION:CRS invites you to an intimate afternoon of music and meditation with concert pianist\, music therapist and Hug Music Founder Kana Kamitsubo Markovic and CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki. Kana magically weaves our visualizations into her music\, improvisationally creating rich tapestries of sounds with emotional depth and breadth to compliment her own haunting compositions. In Kana’s work\, listening and playing\, process and performance are one. Exquisitely attuning herself to the conversation between her deepest impulses and our own\, she allows her spirit to translate this dance of giving and receiving into music in which we can all recognize ourselves. \nThe event will take place in the award-winning White Room at CRS on Sunday\, December 17 from 2 – 3;30 pm. Tickets are $30 at the door and $25 through 12/16 online\, by phone (212-677-8621)\, and at the door. \nhttp://www.hugmusicny.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/kana-impro-twinkle-spider-oyasumi.mp3\nKana Kamitsubo is a pianist trained in classical & jazz\, a board-certified music therapist\, as well as a founder/owner of Hug Music\, a music school located in Queens. She began her piano study by the age of three. During her childhood\, she spent most of the time playing her piano by improvising and composing. Her favorite thing was to reflect the energy around her (energy of her home\, family\, people who visited her) on her improvisation and she would improvise endlessly without knowing it was a very special talent she was given. As her piano study became more serious\, she stopped playing freely but started to focus on “what others would think is good” by following her piano teachers’ advise. At 19 years old\, she felt extremely detached from music and struggled. \nThen\, she decided to study jazz piano. At 20 years old\, she met her piano teacher\, Takeshi\, who told her\, “Listen to the music inside of you first\, and strike the keys to play the melody you just heard.” He taught the importance of being authentic in the music and following where the music wants to go instead of thinking what to play. In order to fully understand his words and also master this\, Kana started to record herself at every single opportunity (practicing\, rehearsal\, performances)\, listening to the recordings\, and taking notes on what she was feeling/thinking when she played and how it affected her music. After years of doing this practice\, she has concluded that when ego takes over\, the music loses its life; when she listens to the spirit and plays music with it\, the music spreads love and she is able to connect with others. This has become her philosophy as a musician. \nAt age 25\, she was awarded a Berklee World Scholarship and moved to Boston to further study piano performance and music therapy. There\, her approach was validated when\, as a music therapy student\, she began working with individuals with disabilities. She cultivated her clinical skills based on her philosophy and was recognized by Berklee College of Music for demonstrating extraordinary therapeutic musical skills. As a result\, she received numerous awards\, and afterward was hired by Berklee to help develop their “Clinical Music Improvisation” curriculum. \nAs a licensed clinician\, she has worked with diverse populations including children with special needs and has developed her own method that has been proven to be effective for children with autism spectrum disorder. While she works as an active music therapist\, she also composes and performs with her husband as an acoustic duo unit called Yagull. The past few years\, Kana started to study A Course in Miracles (ACIM) with Yasuko Kasaki and Naoko Ono. Kana has discovered that the process of improvising (listening to the music inside of her mind and then striking the keys to play the music she heard) mirrors ACIM’s direction to listen to our inner voice. \nYasuko Kasaki strongly advised Kana to perform for others more actively. Kana further cultivates her spirituality and musicality and realized that creating music with others (by reflecting the energy around her) is a very special ability she has been given. Now Kana knows that she wants to devote her life to sharing it. \nhttp://www.hugmusicny.com \nhttp://www.yagull.com

SUMMARY:Prayer for Amara: Sound Meditation + Whirling
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends of CRS and the Williams family\, \nCRS invites you to join us for our monthly sound and movement meditation. We gather to remember the divine strength within ourselves and to support the family of Kenji and Sayoko Williams’ five-year-old daughter\, Amara\, who is growing up with a brain tumor and all the challenges that presents. Our minds will join with Amara’s prayer circle of hundreds of people around the world. \nFollowing a crystal singing bowl meditation (CRS healer Miyoko Satoh) and prayer circle (CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki)\, we’ll whirl together with live percussion by Saco Yasuma\, Senko Nishimura\, and friends. Whirling is a devotional dance practice that Amara’s mother\, performing artist Lale Sayoko\, has been exploring as a way of uniting her dance practice with her prayers for her daughter. No experience is necessary. \nThe participation fee is $20 with advanced registration and $25 on Dec 21. 50% of the proceeds go to the Williams family. \nThrough whirling\, we learn to trust ourselves to go off balance\, to be dizzy\, to surrender control as we give ourselves over to prayer and connect with a greater power\, the still center within\, around which we turn\, that we may share our divine strength and bear witness to the divinity in others. \nIf you are quiet and in a state of prayer when you Turn\, offering everything of yourself to God\, then when your body is spinning\, there is a completely still point in the center… The heavens respond; and all the invisible kingdoms join in the dance. But the world does not understand. They think we Turn in order to go into some sort of trance. It is true that sometimes we do go into that state you call ecstasy\, but that is only when we know and experience at the same time. We do not Turn for ourselves. We turn around in the way we do so that the Light of God may descend upon the earth. As you act as a conduit in the Turn\, the light comes through the right hand\, and the left hand brings it into this world… We turn for God and for the world\, and it is the most beautiful thing you can imagine. — Mevlevi Shaikh Suleyman Hyatt Dede \nAbout Lale Sayoko \nLale was one of the founding members of Japan’s famous Samanyolu professional bellydance group\, and has since developed her own solo career touring with UK’s Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers on a 44 city tour of the UK\, to Turkey’s Baba Zula\, to New York’s Bella Gaia multimedia Earth from Space journey show. Appearing in Japanese and American magazines and newspapers\, Lale aspires for dance to be a powerful communicator though traditional technique and spiritual embodiment. She has lately been studying Sufi dance with Rana Gorgani.\nhttp://www.lalesayoko.com

SUMMARY:FREE New Year's Eve Guided Meditation with Yasuko
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our final community event of 2017! At the end of each year\, CRS Founder Yasuko Kasaki offers a FREE one-hour Guided Meditation\, drawing on the principles of A Course in Miracles\, so that we can all begin the new year with a clear mind. \nIt’s usually standing-room only so you’ll want to arrive a few minutes early. We don’t let anyone in after 6:02 pm. No previous experience with meditation is necessary. \nYou can listen to a recording of a previous New Year’s meditation here:http://crsny.podbean.com/2011/01/04/acim-guided-meditation-dec-31-2010 \n
