SUMMARY:Exhibition: Moments of Silence — Paintings by Douglas Newton
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Moments of Silence\,” an exhibition of small oil paintings by Douglas Newton. \nThese paintings invite sustained contemplation. Some are from observed reality. Others are mostly from his imagination. They are all painted over days and weeks of concentration and creativity. While his subjects from life are recognizable\, he eschews photo realism in favor of building up a richness of color and sumptuousness of form. \nARTIST STATEMENT:\nI paint subjects that have unexpected beauty that I translate into oil paint. I paint from my imagination and also from reality. I also have a series on candies and their wrappers\, focusing on their translucency and reflections. In all these paintings\, my emphasis is on light\, color\, texture and atmosphere. \nSome of the paintings are simple\, direct compositions. Others become almost abstract in their complexity. All\, I hope\, help us see the unexpected beauty in everything around us. \nDOUGLAS NEWTON\nhttp://www.douglasnewtonpaintings.com\ne-mail: dnewton456@gmail.com \nDOUGLAS NEWTON BIOGRAPHY: \nI have been painting seriously for about thirty years and full time for fifteen. Before that\, I had a career as an advertising art director. \nAt first\, I worked in a “suburban surrealism” mode\, painting the American landscape\, houses and gardens\, mostly from my imagination. I have also drawn and painted extensively from the figure. At the same time\, I began painting still lives\, mostly food\, toys and household objects. Gradually\, the still life painting became my main interest. The series of candy paintings evolved out of my food still lives. \nI work directly from nature\, instead of using photography as a reference. The paintings are all oil on canvas\, gallery wrapped on heavy stretchers. My main focus is capturing the effects of light on form\, texture and color. I also try to make the paint itself beautiful\, and to feel\, not like photo realism\, but as rich\, sensuous oil painting.

SUMMARY:Intro to A COURSE OF LOVE (in English)
DESCRIPTION:Having trouble fully absorbing A Course in Miracles (ACIM) or another non-dualistic spiritual tradition? Then A COURSE OF LOVE may be just for you! Channeled by the same voice that authored ACIM but in more easy to understand language\, Mari Perron’s A COURSE OF LOVE speaks to the heart rather than the mind. Let’s explore this important new text together and use it as a springboard to become peaceful miracle workers. Led by CRS co-founders and ACIM Teachers/Healers Yasuko Kasaki and Christopher Pelham\, this class will begin at the beginning of the book and work its way through the text week by week. \nIt may be astonishing to hear that there is a “continuation” of A Course in Miracles\, but it is true. Forty years ago Jesus dictated ACIM to the scribe Helen Schucman. More recently\, over three years\, he similarly dictated A Course of Love. Jesus himself referred to what he was dictating as a “continuation of A Course in Miracles.” Students of ACIM will recognize the Voice. Students of truth\, whatever their background\, will find that ACOL resonates with the heart.\nA Course of Love builds upon the same non-dualistic thought system as ACIM\, yet it is a course for the heart. ACOL and ACIM work hand-in-hand. Yet remarkably\, ACOL bypasses the mind. It uses thought to go beyond thought. Those yearning to access the heart’s knowing will find help here. This is your invitation to live the purposeful\, meaningful life of the new—the reality of heaven on earth. \nClasses are $20 and class cards are available. \n

SUMMARY:Lecture by Hideko Yamashita\, Decluttering Guru & Multi-million Selling Author of Dan Sha Ri
DESCRIPTION:Long before Marie Kondo’s #1 bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up took the world by storm\, another Japanese bestselling author\, Hideko Yamashita\, introduced the underlying concept of “Dan Sha Ri.” More than just the art of decluttering one’s closets and drawers\, Dan Sha Ri teaches us how to carefully observe our relationship to the stuff to which we cling and to free our minds of attachments which do not serve us. If you were intrigued by Ms. Kondo’s book and would like to dig deeper into the ideas which inspired it\, you’ll love Dan Sha Ri. \n“If you have ever opened a full closet and found nothing to wear\, or stayed with a boyfriend you are no longer in love with\, let go of them and try danshari\,” Yamashita told a packed room of anxious urbanites on a recent visit to Beijing. “Get rid of the unwanted things so you can build up what you really want.” \nHideko Yamashita Clutter consultant/Creator of Danshari/Author\nShe was born and raised in Japan. When she was studying at Waseda University she encountered the three steps of practices – “Dan””Sha” “Ri” which stem from Yoga teaching. Later when she visited Enryaku temple in Shiga prefecture in Japan her body and soul understood the true sense of the altamate minimalism. Since then she started to figure out how we can practice those three yoga teachings not at a temple but at our own closets. After more than 10 years of try and error\, she finally succeeded to figure it out. “DanShaRi” was born. Her book sold over 3 miilon copies in Japan and more than 1 million in China and Taiwan.
