DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Moments of Silence\,” an exhibition of small oil paintings by Douglas Newton. \nThese paintings invite sustained contemplation. Some are from observed reality. Others are mostly from his imagination. They are all painted over days and weeks of concentration and creativity. While his subjects from life are recognizable\, he eschews photo realism in favor of building up a richness of color and sumptuousness of form. \nARTIST STATEMENT:\nI paint subjects that have unexpected beauty that I translate into oil paint. I paint from my imagination and also from reality. I also have a series on candies and their wrappers\, focusing on their translucency and reflections. In all these paintings\, my emphasis is on light\, color\, texture and atmosphere. \nSome of the paintings are simple\, direct compositions. Others become almost abstract in their complexity. Before that\, I had a career as an advertising art director. \nAt first\, I worked in a “suburban surrealism” mode\, painting the American landscape\, houses and gardens\, mostly from my imagination. I have also drawn and painted extensively from the figure. At the same time\, I began painting still lives\, mostly food\, toys and household objects. Gradually\, the still life painting became my main interest. The series of candy paintings evolved out of my food still lives. \nI work directly from nature\, instead of using photography as a reference.The paintings are all oil on canvas\, gallery wrapped on heavy stretchers. My main focus is capturing the effects of light on form\, texture and color. I also try to make the paint itself beautiful\, and to feel\, not like photo realism\, but as rich\, sensuous oil painting.

This is a point in time where religious and spiritual models have an opportunity to evolve. Many of these beliefs continue to be steeped in mysticism and comfortable and acceptable concepts. The rapidly rising technology in our world continues to propel us forward in subtle as well as direct ways. \nWe fear our world being other than what we have been conditioned to believe. We fear ourselves being other than the prescribed spiritual\, religious\, mystical and atheistic ideas. The fact is that reality is accommodating of all of these beliefs. Reality is an expression of all beliefs. \nWhat we now aim to understand is the platform on which it all stands. Ultimately increased curiosity about the engineering of such a complex system becomes the journey that returns us to the memory of who we are and of what is possible. \nIn this workshop we will reexamine mathematics\, language and redefine the soul (a holographic record keeper)\, as we move forward from many previously held safe concepts. Exploring the virtual nature of reality is essential in understanding why it’s possible to alter the laws of physics. Taking a deeper look at the technology of reality gives us deeper insight into mastering our lives; health\, monetary\, relationships and our overall choices. \nReviewing reality from this perspective followed by practical steps will be the focus. There is much dialog about the pineal gland the brain and its neurotransmitters\, the nervous system\, hormones\, DNA\, the heart etc.\, many times this information simply sounds good with tools or steps provided; yet an evolution hasn’t really taken place within the individual and so nothing changes. Breaking through feel good concepts about outer body experiences or talk of experiencing other dimensions or euphoric meditation experiences is not confirmation of having cracked the codes to the programming and engineering generated by evolved technology.
