Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement (ATM) Workshop — Fall 2014

CRS is delighted to welcome back movement teacher Sita Mani to teach Feldenkrais at CRS this fall. Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons teach you how to reduce unnecessary muscular effort and improve awareness of the whole self in action. The teacher uses a combination of pleasant, purposeful movement and guided attention to lead you through a particular pattern of movement and action. Emphasis on sensory learning results in movement that is more flexible, pleasurable, efficient and free from aches and pains.
The workshop will run Thursdays 6:45 – 8 pm from Sept 25 – Dec 4, 2014 skipping Nov 30 (Thanksgiving).
The course is $200 for all ten meetings ($175 if registering by Sept 10). Drop-ins are also welcome; single classes are $25.
SITA MANI was born in Germany to Indian parents and grew up in Thailand, Switzerland, and India. She began her movement training early, studying Yoga and Tae Kwon Do at age 8 Bangkok.
Sita began her study of western dance and classical ballet in Bombay and started her professional career on stage at the age of fourteen. She worked professionally as a Principal Dancer  and Choreographer’s Assistant in The Shiamak Davar Dance Company in India for a few years, primarily doing Musical Theatre, Music Videos and Teaching Dance.
Her interests gravitated towards modern dance, which lead to her work with artists from outside India such as Uttara Coorlawalla and Compagnie Choreographique De Renne. In 1990, Sita moved to New York City. She completed the Certificate Program at the Alvin Ailey School and spent ten years working with Dance and Physical Theater companies in New York, as well as with independent choreographers from India, Europe, South America, and the United States. She studied Acting at The Michael Howard Studio in New York and took up long term studies in new movement modalities, including Iyengar Yoga in India; Lucid Body and The Alexander Technique. Sita is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and a Licensed Massage Therapist. Her unique, eclectic background has lead her to develop her own form of movement training which works towards  giving performers a more refined self awareness, physical awareness and emotional authenticity.  Sita has worked at all levels of training, ranging from the Yale School of Drama to kindergartens in the slums of Mumbai.
