Life Is Art Is Motherhood Is Art Tokyo Artist Talk & Reception

Please join us for a reception for the Life Is Art Is Motherhood Is Art exhibition on May 10, 2026, from 3 – 5 pm at Le Déco Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo. Light refreshments will be served.

During the reception, from 3:30 – 4:30 pm, there will be a conversation in Japanese with exhibition artist Satomi Shirai, exhibition curator Christopher Pelham, and independent curator Mikiko Kikuta about some of the exhibition’s core themes. Due to unforeseen events, PGI Director Sayaka Takahashi, who was previously scheduled to join the discussion, will be unable to attend. Reframing “motherhood” as a lived threshold—emerging between the private and the public, child-rearing and self-care, the body and the environment—the conversation will consider how parenting can be understood as a creative path.

Mikiko Kikuta is an independent curator who lives and works in Tokyo. After studying at DAMS (Visual Art department) of Bologna University in Italy, she started to work as an independent curator. She has curated more than 150 exhibitions of mainly photography but also contemporary art in Europe and Japan. Since 2001, she has been the artistic director of the European Eyes on Japan / Japan Today photography project. Since 2008, she has also served as artistic director of Shiogama Photography Festival in Miyagi, Japan. mikikuta.com
