Jen Shyu’s Fertile Land, Fertile Body — November 21 in Philadelphia and November 22 in New York

CRS is delighted to continue its long-standing relationship with artist Jen Shyu, whose new work Fertile Land, Fertile Body, directed by Nana Dakin, will be presented twice this November: on Saturday, November 21, at 8 PM at Solar Myth in Philadelphia, presented by Ars Nova Workshop with support from Chamber Music America, and on Sunday, November 22, at Close Up in New York City, with performances at 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM.

A multilingual vocalist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and dancer, Jen Shyu was born in Peoria, Illinois, to Taiwanese and East Timorese immigrant parents. Fertile Land, Fertile Body is a multilingual ritual opera of ancient and original music, dance, and projection, exploring the loss of a mother and motherhood alongside environmental toxicity, genocide, and their effects on climate change and fertility.

Jen Shyu is joined by Zosha Warpeha, Alexandria DeWalt, Elizabeth Kate, Devon Gates, and Melanie Dyer.
