Join GnosticNYC at CRS for a lecture/workshop on the Buddhist practice of Insight meditation.
One of the core teachings of the historical Buddha is the “Satipatthana Sutta” — the Foundations of Mindfulness. This teaching has formed the basis for the mindfulness practices which are so prevalent today. For many, mindfulness practices are a form of “medication” in that they certainly can help relieve us from many forms of suffering if practiced regularly. Taken further however, they are a way to freedom, and this is the true power behind this teaching. In this workshop we will touch on the practices presented in this remarkably deep teaching.
Jon Aaron has been practicing various forms of meditation for many years, but began seriously studying mindfulness meditation in 1998 and over the course of the last 10 years his meditation practice has become central to his life.
Jon Aaron is a teacher at the New York Insight Meditation Center, as well as the guiding teacher of the Makom Meditation Havurah program at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan. He also leads a weekly class for the Wellness Program at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He has given workshops and classes for the New York Open Center, the NYU Medical School, the Department of Psychology at Einstein College of Medicine, the Beth Israel Medical Center and for the 92nd St Y. He was formerly a member of Yoga Sutra New York’s teacher-training program.
Jon trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he continues advanced training and supervision for experienced teachers. He continues his studies in Buddhist meditation in the Theravada tradition with his primary teacher Matthew Flickstein and has also completed the Integrated Study and Practice Program, at the Barre
Center for Buddhist Studies. He recently completed the Foundations in Buddhist Contemplative Care program, with the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care, and he is now currently training in Somatic ExperiencingTM.
The suggested donation for the workshop is $20.00 to cover the cost of space rental and other expenses.
